List your products that did not meet the hype

My let downs are S100

:shocked

Wow, I am surprised especially from a Paste Glaz fan. :p

Seriously, this is one of my favorite all-time detailing products. Superb performance for a decent price.

Greg, I will drive my Lexus up to Hilton Head so you can see what AIO+P21S do. (Buy some dark shades-hint, hint) :xyxthumbs

Also disappointed with Griot's Best of Show wax. Not user-friendly (at least for a liquid). So-so looks, poor durability.

Amen bro. Right down there with NuFinish and Turtle Wax for crap looks. Seriously poor quality product. Richard can do better than this.

On the other hand, I like GEPC better than PCL. It seems to work extremely well (probably formulated to) with P21S in my experience. Really preps the surface perfectly but using AIO works even better for me. I find the PC on 4-5 works the GEPC best.

Disappointment: S100 wax- didn't get what I wanted on my sapphire blue metallic car. Absolutely hated it.

Favorite: S100 wax- the best, IMHO, on silver, bar none

Other products I didn't warm up to: Meg's Quik Strips, Eagle One Car Wash, Purple Passion waffle weave towel, S100 Gel Wheel Cleaner, Scratch X, Zymol cleaner wax, Gold Class liquid wax, Meg's 3-step. I didn't find these as horrible products, just that I found comparable alternatives that were better for me.

Well, since I started this thread I'll say Menzerna Intensive polish. Its a very good polish, very good gloss, nice shine but some distributers advertize this as the holy grail for swirl/defect removal, which in my tests it did not measure up. Its a good polish, but not in the compound category as some market it as.

I agree with this. If you purchase IP thinking you are getting a major defect remover you will not be happy with the product. It is really a light to medium polish and works really well on minor defects.

Is that with a PC or a rotary? I ordered some based off of use of IP/FP in these posts:

Paste Glaz is an awesome wax, and it is just my luck that it has been discontinued. It really works well with UPP. Have an extra jar on hand? ;)

S100 did nothing to impress me on black, and I honestly didn't think it looked any better or different than Signature or #16 on my silver test panel. My current combo of AIO + UPPx2 + PGx2 is amazingly wet looking and the flake just pops out in the sun.

I know exactly what you mean.

You're absolutely right, the PC is not able to do what a rotary can do. However, the PC is a very capable machine but it will not be able to remove serious defects to the extent a rotary will. For a vehicle that is always in good to excellent condition, a PC is great. If you are a professional detailer that regularly deals with neglected vehicles than a rotary is a must.

That said, I may move up to a rotary sometime this year.

And a rotary can't do what a PC does. I think the PCs are fantastic for what they do, but it is easy to get caught up in the hype that they are the ultimate tool.

i don't know anything that an experienced rotary user can't do that a pc user can do...

Just giving you grief on PG. It is a good wax. :) Todd has an extra jar by the way...

I am surprised by this...most people I know love S100 or P21S on black and red for that matter. It is definitely a more reflective look than the beautiful liquid deep look of Souveran but IMHO it is still a great look.

[flame suit on]

I have been testing #16 on my wife's car and a panel on mine. Two weeks into the testing I have noticed a significant degradation versus P21S on both cars. My conclusion is that the older tech of #16 simply can not compete with a modern wax like P21S. It is more clear, more glossy and just looks more liquid to my eyes. That is just my honest opinion. On my car nothing has looked better that AIO+P21S. The flakes are just popping in 3D.

I also like Signature and have tested it in whole section of the Lexus and Camry, but I still find P21S beats it in looks and durability.

My extra jar is on the way to Greg in exchange for his extra jar of Signature...so I'll have 2 full jars and one that is 90%! :D

This is probably just one of those personal preference things...stuff like PPCL, GEPC, and even Zymol Cleanse are all really pretty similar in my experience. I'm in the minority here, but I only use AIO as a base for SG, preferring other stuff as a final prep for other products. As I said, personal preferences...my working with either very soft (the Jag) or very hard (the Audis and the Mazda) paints probably influences my choices too and there's always the "with what LSP?" issue.

Oh, and it's interesting about your P21S/#16 comparison. No need for a flamesuit where I'm concerned but that is very different from what I observed on my vehicles. I sometimes wonder if there might be many unconsidered variables in play with this stuff; just look at how different some people's experiences are from those of others.

I like #16 but I had it over Natty's which may have changed the look somewhat. It's reserved for when I want durability as I find it to be a bit of a pain for regular use and like you said, other products produce superior results. Still a very nice wax though.

While you're scratching your head wondering why I do not like S100, I am scratching my head wondering why you like S100/P21S so much. Funny how we have such similar colors yet have completely opposite opinions of the same wax. :p

I'm trading my new jar of Signature for one of Todd's jars of Paste Glaz. I want to find a third jar, LOL.

First off, if anyone does not want their Menzerna polishes, please PM me as I will work a nice product trade out...]

Second, I think this thread is great, because "one man's junk, is another man's gold"...I have found some "disliked" products that I will hopefully take off someone's hands and I hope others will do the same for me.

Third, I am rating these products rather hard. I *can* work with them, I just find others easier, producing "better" results...So without further adue:

-Meguiar's DACP/SFP (nice polishes on the rotary but I find the Menzerna's superior in all aspects)

-Poorboy's SSR2 (barely removed any swirls and created them back in buffer hologramming)

-Meguiar's NXT Spray Wax (just in general, not a huge fan)

-Poorboy's QD+ (just in general, not a huge fan)

-Meguiars NXT Tech Wax, Poorboy's EX-P, and Wolfgang's Sealant (just not impressed with durability)

-Clearkote's Vanilla Moose (produces nice results, but it's far too thin in consistency for me)

-Gliptone Body Gloss (there are better QD's out there)

-Meguiar's Hyper Dressing (application is terrible on tires, but once on, it works well...also, when applied on trim, after rain, it washes away)

-Meguiar's Quik Detailer (much better QD's out there)

That's all for now...I'm sure there will be more once I go and look at my stash.

If anyone wants to trade, send me a PM.

"While you're scratching your head wondering why I do not like S100, I am scratching my head wondering why you like S100/P21S so much."

Maybe a factor here is that I use P21S now exclusively since I found the formulas are different. Maybe if you are using S100 you are getting a slightly different result.

#16 and #26 (paste)

- Could not get either to buff off easily, I have found other products much easier to use.

Gold Class (liquid)

- My only gripe is its lack of durability. Haven't tried their "reformulated" version.

PlastX

- No real "wow" factor, its nothing special. I found Plexus to be superior for polishing plastic....

Poorboys Pro Polish

- didn't like having to buff; buff some more and then buff some more! Takes too long to work.... couldn't tell when to remove, and it was a PITA to remove at times...

Poorboys EX Sealant

- It has the look, it has the ease of use, but it lacks durability. Expensive too....

Mother's Showtime QD

- Smells nice, but is very oily, and i've found Meguiar's and Clearkote's to be better.

QD+

- works well as a spray wax, not as a QD as someone pointed out earlier.

Meguiar's Quick Wax

- Found no real benefit other than providing extra gloss in less time than a normal waxing.

Spray and Wipe

- I found that a regular washing better FOR ME when removing dirt. I see it as a QD w/o the gloss or slickness. BUT I like it to clean up drips from trim when drying....

Clearkote Carnuba Moose Wax

- Looks ok, very little slickness, even after multiple coats, and waiting after a few days. I tested on several different cars, and ended up using something else. Can't understand why I'm the ONLY one who is disappointed with the product... :nixweiss

NXT (liquid)

- Lost its slickness after two weeks (this is on a Daily Driver)...for looks though, it does fine, and is easy to use.

#7

- Found it tempermental and hard to use, even after reading Mike P's writeup....

Stoner's Invisible Glass

- Found EO 20/20 to be superior...

4* Spray Wax

- Basically a QD, no significant slickness/shine added. Good thing i only paid shipping for it!

NXT Tech Protectant

- No better than Armor All. Greasy and slick.

S100

- Not enough durability. Looks average, but beads nicely. I'd use it just before a short rain, for some quality beads.

:up , I don't understand this recent backlash against them. :nixweiss

I've found IP to be quite abrassive. Very rarely do i need to break out the PG.

My most dissapointing product is Megs Gold Class Trim detailer. Its leaves the finish to oily for me.
