List your products that did not meet the hype

*Klasse SG, a pain in the you know what.

*Wolfgang, durability issues (even with NXT in my book)

*NXT booster spray, the worst product Megs ever made. Pain to use/remove.

*S100, i still dont get it! Who cares if its EZ, it doesnt last!

* I will join the Zaino bandwagon, expectations as Mosca elayed to are Tsunami proportion, I just dont have any desire to try.

Im sure Ill have more, but you forget what "you dont use anymore."
 
For me it's Poorboy's EX-P. Purchased it because of all the positive things said here about it. It's not a bad product but it's nothing special. After I applied it I looked at the car and thought whats the big deal. It's also not very slick. I really couldn't tell I applied anything. My car was preped properly so that wasn't the problem.
 
Biggest disappointments that I tried:



WG Paint cleaner- AIO competitor that just didn't do it for me. I do really like the WG sealant though



Invisible Glass- I didn't really get the results I was hoping for when using it.



Biggest surprises this year for me:



EX-P - Silver + Ex-P is one of the coolest combinations I have seen



Meguiars #80- I love Speed Glaze, easily one of my favorite 'go to' prducts.
 
I haven't had much. But, when I went from 1Z Window Polish to Invisible Glass. I was extremely disappointed. Invisible glass had a ton of hype all and got utterly destroyed by 1Z in my opinion.

I'd say that's true these foams don't have streaking but they also don't have that much cleaning power, the good thing is they stick on the window so the steel wool does the work w/o harming the window. But absent steel wool, water with MF will clean as good as any of these window cleaners IMO.
 
I'm surprised to see a couple of votes for VM. For me, it's one of the easiest, best results producing products I've ever used!



To stick to the topic my vote goes to: SG and WG.
 
Since I have learned from my time here at Autopia that Prep is everything, I have had no product disappointments to the point where I will call it junk. They all may not meet my needs for a particular vehicle (durability) but all product I have used, I receive the same end-results in appearance with only slight hue changes (i.e. carnuaba products tend to darken slightly initially until oils/silicones evaporate.

Now I spend my time, I am a hobbyist, working the paint to it best possible appearance (wetness, depth, reflectivity, etc) and use a LSP for their major reason for existing - protection.



The unfortunate thing about being an Autopian is that no product can hide from us surface marring. Life was so much easier when having a clean and shiny car was the goal and marring was just something the brain just filtered out and never reaches the cognitive level. Now surface condition is the first step in analysizing a vehicles appearance. No matter how shiny and clean. :(
 
NXT trim protectant - expensive in the UK (at £8.99) and performance disappointing in terms of look and durability.



Makes wheelwells look nice though so I guess that's a positive slant - but pricey for a wheelwell dressing!
 
I know it is pretty cheap - but Meguiars Gold Class has to be the dissapointment of the season for me- it is utter rubbish!!

difficult to work with, so-so appearance and very poor durability go completely against the hype for this product. I mean look at the claims they make for it "most reflective wax in our history" etc. etc.... - it's in the bin after two or three attempts!
 
Disappointments for me in 2004:



Megs Tire Hot Shine

Megs NXT Wax (hate both looks and durability)

Megs #16 (durability good but not looks)

Sonus Gloss Shampoo (in love with rest of the line)

PB Super Slick & Suds (in love with the rest of the line)



Big positives for me in 2004:



P21S line (continues to be probably the best overall line)

Klasse AIO - Keep your SG :) carnauba looks best with AIO.

New Sonus products-I like Wunder Wasche for cleaning pads and I like the cockpit products

Pinnacle Souveran - an expensive product that lives up to its name

Poorboys Trim Restorer and Wheel Sealant and EX-P+ - all superb. Also hyave started to use and enjoy the classic Spray & Wipe.

My new Makita 9227C rotary (what a great machine, superb engineering, great product bundle)

My new Metro Vac N Blo (terrificly well made vacuum and quite portable)
 
Poorboy's PVA Lifetime sponges - I didn't like anything about these. I found them difficult to use, did not like the way they spread the product, used too much product, did not clean up to my satisfaction, etc. I bought 3 and I used each one once and will probably never use them again.



Poorboys EX (although it is only a minor disappointment) - I currently have it on my car for my winter sealant because I thought I might prefer it to SG on metallic dark grey. I have now tried it on both my vehicles and just prefer SG's superior durability and to me it looks just as good on my car and better on my wife's white car. I actually think SG is easier to apply than EX since I don't have to wait to remove it.



I keep trying different products looking for something miraculous but after I try it I can honestly say that for the money, the look, and the durability nothing is any better (many are comparable) or any easier to use than the Klasse twins. I do enjoy topping the dark colored car with S100 or #16.



Not bashing Poorboy's because I still love the Spray and Wash.

Well, that was confusing...:)



After having spent hundreds of dollars on products that I haven't even used yet, I can definitely say I've fallen into "the hype". So far I've only used 4*, EX-P, and a couple of TOL products. But I've not compared them to the Klasse twins, Zymol, or Souveran (which is on order from a fellow reader).

Megs Gold Class wax. Hard as heck to work with, duration is measured in minutes.



Rain-x. Streak city when you use your wipers. Doesn't last nearly as long as claimed.



Klasse SG. Duration is not what's claimed.



Back to Black. Anything is a better dressing than this is.

I couldn't agree with you more.





I just saw someone mention PB's Super Slick & Suds and must agree. I completely forgot that I received a sample of this and didn't like it much at all. Lubricity was exrtremely low and cleaning power was about the same. Yes, it is better than Turtle Wax Zip Wax Car Shampoo but certainly not as good as the hype.
