Hanging Bangle is the best thing that ever happened to BMW. IMHO, it's nothing more than a marketing ploy. Bangle does not control the final choice of design-the Quandts and BofD do. If I remember correctly, Bangle submits 7 designs for each car to the BofD. In each case the Baord has chosen the most radical of the designs. Bangle has very little to do with it.

Again, IMHO, BMW saw the controversy the new designs created and were able to use Bangle as a target to get and keep BMW in the news and in the minds of auto enthusiasts. Mercedes, Lexus, etc. dream of being able to cause such an uproar (and free press). Do you think Forbes would be writing an article on BMW if it wans't for the radical designs? Free press, baby...free press...

BMW is a very, very smart company. Their marketing machine is amazing and everything they do is with purpose. If they really felt Bangle was 'hurting' the company, they would have ditched him a long time ago. A really good book on BMW is Driven . It's an eye-opener as to how sophisticated a company they really are.

I agree about the PT Cusser.

Can't believe nobody mentioned the Mitsubishi Galant!! It is hideous...along with the Endeavor SUV!!

If the man is responsible for every one of those designs, then it is kind of hard to downplay his role.

Just a hypothetical, but:

The weak link though would be an overzealous board, piecing together vehicles based on different designs. This would give less of a reason to point at Bangle - as well as, serve in explaining what particularly happened to the 3 series.
