Progress on our garage

I have been away from autopia for a long time due to school and work, but between working and school me and dad have been up to no good. We have been building this garage, all by ourselves in the evenings and days we have off. It started about may, and last time we worked on it was last sunday, but heres some filler pics because I havent been around.

It all kinda started out like this

Soon after I left for a couple of months of schooling in Japan, so no real progress was made, besides the concrete was curing.

Soon after I came back home we began framing for the walls

and ultimately led to us putting up OSB and then the truss. The truss we had premade, and actually had a few guys help us hoist it up onto the top

Soon we began putting OSB everywhere, and fnially put the roofing on

All wrapped up

Total dimensions are 52x32, with 13ft ceilings. The two outside garage doors will be regular roll up doors, whereas the middle door will be a barn style door to accomodate for the lift. The windows were only placed up front because really, we didnt need em on the sides due to a lack of light. Thats pretty much the building so far, I'll try to keep this updated as things go by. I thought I'd go ahead and drop by to update everyone on whats going on. Thanks ;)

Please, please, please keep us updated on your project!!!

Very nice pic's of YOUR project. Only in my dreams will I ever see a building like that on my property! AWESOME :woohoo:

Sweet, another garage thread, join the club! Your garage looks very, very nice. I like the look of the cedar siding and the windows. So that is technically a 6 car garage? Great work!

*technically* its a 9 car garage..but realistically we wont have that many in there, as we will be using much of the space to put our tools etc.

and thanks for the compliments guys :)

YAh thats what I thought that it's be tight to fit 3 in 52'. Thats why one side of my new garage (3 car side) id 60' inside. I think with 6 cars and your tools, etc youll have a lot of room to work around your cars which is always a nice luxury to have!

Well, we have had 3 cars deep in it...we put my VW, moms altima and dads windstar all front to back in it, but then again..they arent exactly huge cars. Really we won't be storing many cars in there, its more of a working space. We will have a bathroom, which will kill some parking space, and there will also be lots of cabinatry and machine tools. We figured on being able to park 4-5 cars in there, and be able to leave the stall with the lift in it open. We wil lactually be adding car covered parking along the back side so that we can put some of the cars there too.

The hearse is a full 23ft long :grinno:

I have had that parked back there and put our long bed f150 in front of it...so if you take big cars is only a 6 car garage. But most of our cars arent that large

Very nice and very well thought out. My garage is attached, but I told my wife I should build a bathroom in our garage and a nice workshop and then Id never have to come in the house! LOL! Looking forward to seeing more pics of yours as it progresses. Im jealous of your lift, what type did you go with?

We're going with a Standard Lift (I think thats the company??) Its a 12,000lb lift, two post. Thats part of the reason for the high ceilings in the place. That and the very rear section we had raised truss built so that we could have a small loft. The rest of the truss are standard, it would have been nice to go with all raised truss...but those had to be placed on 16 centers, whereas standard truss are on 24.

Having a bathroom should be nice, as the garage is seperate from the house. We were going to add onto the house but the cost would be nearly double, and the building codes were much more strict.

Today its raining so we are just welding the center doors up..should be fun :hmph:
