Overrated products

You said it, WilliamHBonney.

Some products work for some people and some don't.

For example, I haven't found (after two years and six different brands of car wash) a better car soap than Pinnacle's Body Wash. I don't know of anyone else here that ever mentions it. I really want to find another one that works as well because I think it's very expensive...

I find it very strange if you will that so many of us have complete 180 experiences from what others have had. I have never had water eat through Z and when washing the surface contaminants dejour come right off. One of the reasons I like Z so much is that its maintenance free for me.

That's been my experience as well. It's a very tough sealant in my testing.

FMJ is not made by Menzerna AFAIK.

I'm interested to know who makes it then. I haven't used it, but I was thinking about purchasing some. As I recall, it said Menzerna on the bottle. Should Menzerna file an action against the makers if they are falsely using the name?

Menzerna are a german producer of great polishes...When coming to US market whoever took over the distributing(Menzerna USA?) came up with a complete line using the Menzerna name. Now who makes them beats me!

Are SIP and 106 made in Germany or USA?

Poorboys Leather stuff - just did nothing.

Megs Gold Class & soft wash gel shampoos

P21s wheel cleaner

P21s wax

Megs wheel bursh

CG M Seal

Nattys Blue

My God, I've wasted some money right there.

I think most boutique brands are over rated. Mainly because people who spend their money on a product don’t want to think something cheaper could do/look as good.

Don’t get me wrong when properly prepared and applied almost any product line will give very good results. I’ll bet you could line up ten identical cars with ten different product lines and 100 people wouldn’t form a consensus as to which one looks the best. Especially, if no one knew what products where on what cars ahead of time. It’s all in the “opinion of the person looking.

I use Meguiars OTC products on this truck and I think it looks pretty darn good. :nana:

Your truck looks extremely nice... and I agree about most of the boutique products. I use a lot of Mothers OTC products, and they work as well as, if not better than many boutique products.

However, there are a few boutique products that I wouldn't be without. Problem is... it takes a while to sort out the really good ones.

can't say these are overrated, but this is one of the worst products (edge foam detailing sticks) i have ever bought. they are cheaply glued on and flimsy as well... :down

Optimum OS- Bret and I are detailing a camry. As we where getting ready to apply OS, I had to go in the house to take care of a carpet mess left by my daughter and some lip gloss. I came out into the garage 30-45 mins later. I looked at the car and asked Bret, "I thought you where going to apply the OS?" He said, "I did" I could see no difference in the appearance of the car.

I have not used it since.

:rofl Same here.

For me, the products that i didn't like so well were the PB's SSR's, PwC, nb..someone said it was a dust magnet before, boy ain't that the truth!

Ive had some success with Optimum products, but overall, not a fan vs Menzerna.

It sounds silly, but I like my plain ole $8.50 wal mart special Mothers FX synwax. In fact, I mainly use it and sometimes Collinite 845 as my LSP's.

Also didn't care a thing about the 1Z line. Greasy, not long lasting for glanz wax, and tons of fillers in the polishes.

the guys that don't like zaino, what are you using. It sucks putting on, but the stuffs amazing. I guess I will do a search, but what are the best products. There seems to be too many opinions to narrow anything done, I'll check another thread.

1. turtle Liquid Clay Bar. worst product I ever used

I agree.

I am curious about this to. I do not want to argue the point because everybody is entitled to their opinions but if you are one of the few people that said they didn't like Zaino what do you like and what are you using?

What are you talking about?

Man! I really would like to thank all of you who tell about the products that don't seem to live up to your expectations. We detailers get caught up in the HYPE of alot of products, and spend alot of hard earned cash to get the latest craze. I always use them up ,but still was not happy with their performance. So thanks again. A friend has promised me some ONR! Ive heard this was a Great product. I'll soon find out!

GREAT THREAD!! Opti-Seal just takes VERY light coats... I've only had streaking once, and I was just applying too many sprays on the pad for such a small surface area...

Oh and overrated products?

The entire Griot's Garage Line :D When I first started detailing, I was totaly hooked with their 'no silicone, no hologram, no inferior product' approach. They're great for the occasional garage queen, but for a proffesional... you can forget about any detail in the sub 8-hour range !!! :shocked

Every single product ever made has been mentioned in this thread. Everytime I think about trying something new and dishing out some serious loot, I come across a thread like this one and keep my wallet in my back pocket.

My choice, Viking MF

I don't love Zaino but I don't hate it either. To me, it is just another product line to fit in with everything else I use. My only real problem is that you pretty much have to use it as a system to get the best results while most other products I can mix and match at will.

If you listen to some of the faithful, you'd think Zaino cures cancer. :grinno:

that's why you try a product and find out for yourself. i don't care if there is a product that gets all rave reviews, if *I* try it and don't care for it, i still post my honest opinion about it...
