Holy crap this stuff is hard. I tried applying it to a panel and just gave up and put something else on.

Are you guys heating it up or scooping some out or something?

I apply the first coat by PC. Just jam a 4" red pad in the can, give it a few good twists, and it's good to go. I do keep the tin at room temperature.

I did my car today w/FK 1000p. I ended up laying down 2 coats of 1000p following WS Prime. The FK1000p has a truly wet appearance on this color:

Wow, Tom, that is an *amazing* picture. Perfect example of perfect prep. :bow

Thanks, Super. I did the body of the car with WS Acrylic Prime - - that worked awesome on this paint. I let the first coat of 1000p "dry" for about 1/2 hr. I then took a break and had lunch. I returned about 45 mins later to do the 2nd coat, which I attempted to lay down very thin - - not sure if I was successful.

I do find some residue coming off with this product. It's not dust, almost like tiny little particles. I should have switched to a clean pad when I layed down the 2nd coat of 1000p. The stuff on the pad had started to dry and seemed to leave more tiny little particles as I went along. Even after laundering my pads yesterday, i still find some of this particulate-like matter embedded in that pad. Kind of strange.

I used M205 on the plastic bumper covers followed by two layers of 1000p. You get a tremendous gloss with that. I did this on another car last weekend; it has kevlar/fiberglass bumpers and the look was cleaner and glossier than any combo I've ever tried.

I've got a bunch more fotos - - I'll put something together in a day or two when there is more time.

I have high expectations for this product after listening to y'all ;) I'm looking for something with far less dust-attraction (compared to the #885) and hope this is the one. I parked the car outside yesterday for a couple hours - - there was no evidence of dust on the car when I returned :)

Tom, I get that sometimes, too. I think it's cured 1000p that is then being removed by the solvents in the fresh 1000p that you're laying down. So basically, it's removing the previous coat.

What I do to try and prevent this...I apply the first coat with a PC. Then after removing the first coat residue, I use either an MF or cotton hand applicator, and *very gently* (i can't emphasize the "very gently" part enough) put on the second coat by hand, using the least amount of pressure that I can and still see some product left on the paint. I apply in one direction only, and never in circles. Basically, what I'm trying to accomplish is laying down a second layer *without disturbing the first* layer. Rubbing or going back and forth will definitely start to erode the first layer. The solvents in the fresh 1000p will start to affect the first layer and give you those little particles. Think of it in terms of applying a WOWA product like UPGP or Z-CS: just touch the paint hard enough to leave a visible trail of product, in one direction, one time.

Man, those pictures are sweet.

Sounds like maybe it's a good idea to wait until 1000p fully cures before applying another layer. Any idea how long until that occurs?

Anybody else dampening the applicator with FK425? Seems to work well for me...

bcwang- The curing thing has me sorta  IIRC the guys at FK say you can pretty much apply mutliple layes back-to-back (I do two per day myself, leaving a few hours between them), but it's one of those products that "looks better after a few days". Somehow those two things don't seem compatible to me but I really :nixweiss

tom p.- Sheesh, every time I see that car you have it looking even better!

Those Menzerna lube oils can be really resistant to removal. I've found that a pretty good way to see if there's any Menz lube left on the clear is the "squeaky finger" test: after an IPA wipedown, the paint should feel slick but somewhat "squeaky". If it's just slick, there's still Menz lube on the paint.

Sup, have you (or anyone else for that matter) tried FK's 714 (Solv's It Wax, Grease and Tar Remover) to remove Menz oils? Sounds like it is some pretty strong stuff and my take the place of multiple IPA wipe downs and save some time.

I never dampen my app, just swirl it around in the tin and go. I wipe it on very gently with very little pressure.

Sometimes I apply it with a DA, but I've never encountered holos, or anything disturbing with it.

Tom, the Accord looks unbelievable!

Bence, thank you :) You have to take some of the credit. And I'll agree with your analogy about 'adding more clearcoat to the car's finish'.

Thanks for your assistance :hifive:

I'm glad I could help you buddy!

Bence, even though you are thousands of miles away, and have sampled more products than most of us, your assistance and guidance is highly valued by many of us. You are a pillar of the community, and your evaluations tend to be spot-on. Thanks again :up :up

I haven't, but I appreciate the reminder! :) I need to add that to my next FK1 order. I'm saving up a big list to take advantage of their five buck shipping.

I haven't tried a lot of FK1 stuff, but I've sure been happy with the stuff I have. Especially at their price level.

Hey bud, thanks.

Been kinda busy with other stuff and detailing kinda took a backseat for a while. New products always put me right back into the game so I'm thinking about giving 1000p a whirl.

I put 3 coats of 1000P on my mother-in-law's 93 Accord last October, after stripping off the prior wax. She drove around central PA throughout the winter, salt, sludge et al, a couple of trips to DC, other place. Car was not washed until March, got a light washing at a self-wash, spray, a little foam brush, but not truly clean.

Today I washed it thoroughly, beaded very nicely when it was clean during the final rinse. Looked great when dry - great shine. Could have left it as is but put another coat on while I had it clean. Note again - not washed at all from October to March, and then not thoroughly.

I might try it as the winter wax also on our car this year. We've done well with Collinite as a winter wax.

I put down one coat of 1000p over DG501 this weekend. I'll mull it over for a week and see if I want to apply a second coat or Pink Wax. Application (by hand foam pad) was all over the place even spritzing with 425. Sometimes nothing would go down, other times it would clump up and sometimes I'd get a nice even layer. I guess I'm spoiled with the Pink Wax and DG501 which are really fool proof. Iphone pic:
