FK1 1000P Vs. Winter: Results

Not to change the topic or anything, but why is it such a long process of change?

Also, if anyone is interested in sending me a free sample of 1000P, I would love to add it to my long lasting sealant test. Please PM me. Right now it consists of Klasse SG, Z2pro and Duragloss #105.

Cause I have so many different polishes/pads/glazes, etc. to test along the way.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm seeing - - I don't think it's really offering any tangible time savings...and I don't do carnauba any longer.

Here's the real (OCD) reason I purchased the blower: I get a ton of water sitting in the Honda mirrors and it only comes out when you drive it...of course it then leaves drip marks all over the side of the car :aww:

I just had a FEDX alert: my tin of FK 1000P touched down about an hour ago :thx

Very interested to hear how it works for you, Tom.

I just wish RMG or VM would be compatible under it. I guess I could use DWG.

Yeah, unfortunately, 1000P doesn't like to sit on top of RMG at all. Greg found that out last fall.

It really does look great over DWG. I've done a bunch of cars with that combo, but I don't know what it does to 1000p's durability. Speaking of which, I'm probably getting more durability out of it than someone who washes with the "two bucket method" or other touch media based washing. Since I'm limiting mechanical abrasion to the very few times it gets ONR'd, other than chemically, there just isn't much that's trying to remove the 1000p from the clear. So I guess the six month durability claim should come with the "when maintained touchlessly" caveat. You could probably argue that the chemicals used in the touch-free automatics are harsh, and would make up for the lack of fricition/abrasion, but that's really an unknown quantity. I'd still think that mechanical abrasion would do more to limit an LSP's durability than the chemicals used in touch free washes.

Regardless, it is good stuff for sure.

It kills me to consider the removal of the #885, which has been on there since November...and still looking fabulous. I do have a fair amount of bonded crud on the rocker panels that I need to tend to. That's the only way I can justify the effort right now. Other than that, the #885 is starting to look like a genuine 1-year sealant!

Do I need to buy DWG? I was going to: strip ->> clay ->> #205 ->> 1000P (2x)....I like to keep things simple, but desire max durability. Paint is in excellent shape.

Thanks again.

What did you pre-clean/polish with? Anything??

I'm pretty serious about keeping the paint on my cars flawless, so it had been corrected and jeweled with PO85RD before the 1000P went on. I also did a couple IPA wipedowns to prevent any defect hiding from the 85RD, and to give the 1000P an oil-free clear to adhere to. Those Menzerna lube oils can be really resistant to removal. I've found that a pretty good way to see if there's any Menz lube left on the clear is the "squeaky finger" test: after an IPA wipedown, the paint should feel slick but somewhat "squeaky". If it's just slick, there's still Menz lube on the paint.

Great post Supe, the more I use 1000p the more I like it. 1000p topped with Pink Wax is a killer combo

Just added Pink Wax to the "next FK1 order" sheet. :)

OK, I hear ya. I think I've got the FK 215 in my shelf. Maybe I should try that. I know I've got the FK 2180...that's what the owner told me to use :nixweiss

Thanks for the wirte up superbee. I am definately going to have to give 1000p a try.

But i wonder how it stacks up against other "king" waxes and sealants.

476s, zaino, duragloss ect...

with you Supe

I put 2 layers on in Sept and it was still shedding water and muck like a pro at the start of April :D

Nothing has compared to this stuff for the combination of looks, durability and cleanability. Many of my colleagues over here also tried it and most have also commented on the ease of cleaning with purely touchless methods!

In the looks department, FK1 looks as good as Zaino, which, I hate to admit, is one of the best looking sealants out there. It does develop more of a carnauba look over time, though, and for those that like the combined look of wax/sealant, you'll like it better than Zaino.

Good to hear! Lasting through an English winter is no easy feat.

Lookin' good, Tom! That tin looks much different than mine, though. Looks like they've changed their packaging. It also looks like that tin is bigger. How many ounces is that thing?

Yea that's how my tin looks also. I like the "industrial" look.

I don't have my tin around but I believe its over 15 ounces.

Tom, Supe, you're welcome!!!

:2thumbs:

add me to the list, recently used it on two cars. One of them a black Civic and it looks fantastic. I was going to get some Collinite to use on these cars because they aren't well taken care of but I am happy with the 1000p :thx
