That's a stretch. By your reasoning, anytime someone does a professional detail and mentions a product they used by name, they're "selling the product indirectly".

Are we really offended this easily? I hope not.

Thats not my reasoning, possibly you misunderstood.

Who's offended?

Good grief!

You act as though people were throwing expletives around or something.

Not really. This is just way off track and wasting a really interesting topic with subjects better discussed at length on seperate threads.

I was simply trying to get the thread back on course by drawing attention to this.

It's up to the op to keep the thread on track

:rules: My understanding is it is up to those of us who post to ensure our posts are relevant . . . . the OP can't do anything about off topic posts.

(Is my post relevant to the thread . . . .??? Uh oh!)

Using dishwashing soap is tough on car finishes. I't's not made to wash cars and is extremely harsh. I'd go to a car wash soap formulated for car finishes. Then clay to remove any other contaniments.

I found the R2000 the best sealant to use. Contains highest Teflon content and lasts for ever. Goes on and comes off easy. I've sprayed it on and applied with a orbital. Both work about the same. Loss of beading does not indicate loss of protection as with wax. Teflon can only be removed with thinner or sanding/compounding.

If a pure polymer product is applied to a painted surface and it initally beads and over time that beading falls off then something has changed. Either the polymer film is breaking down or dirt is sticking to the product. Either way the paint needs to be cleaned and a new application of polymer laid down. Even if a miracle product could (theoretically) last for 5 years the amount of bonded contaminants would assure that the paint would feel like sandpaper.

Look.

If you are going to start a new topic. Mention it if you wish and then go do so. Hijacking a thread like has happened here, in my opinion often ruins the focus. It cartainly has in this case. Further all of the really interesting Teflon posts should have been in their own properly titled thread so that they could have better served the general Autopian reader population. It is good info!!

I really enjoyed the posts in this thread. I think the authors did a great job of hashing Teflon sealants out, but it lost it's validity to the eight way sealant test long ago.

I am not a moderator in this froum. I am simply mentioning that good forum/thread edicate is not being observed here. Good edicate in a forum such as this means good focus equals interesting threads that belong mostly to their original titles.

It's been 3 weeks this weekend since the initial application and I've washed my car twice so far. I'm planning on doing a detailed update in the next couple weeks. I washed it today an all panels are beading great and feel very soft. I'd have to say there's no loss in protection and/or beading what so ever. 1 thing I can't help to notice is the Zaino section of the hood (left side). Every time it rains while I drive, the water beads off fast like ball bearings. Pretty cool.

*********************************6 Week Update****************************************

After 6 weeks since the initial application, I had a chance to give you an update with the test. Each sealant seems to be holding up very well and is beading and sheeting nicely. 1 thing I can attest to is every product is beading just like it did right after the 1st wash, which was done about 1 week after initial application. Loss of slickness has diminished on each sealant and neither feels anything like it did after application. The surface is smooth, but not soft and thick feeling. These pictures were taken after washing and drying the car with 1st spraying water up into the air and onto the car (mimicking rain fall) and then by sheeting the water off each panel without any hose attachment. *After a real rainstorm, the beading looks quit a bit different(tighter & rounder) and I’ll definitely have to take more pictures next time it’s captureable.* One strange thing that I’ve noticed is that the sections of the panels without ANY protection are beading just as good as the protected panels? I think that this can be attributed to surface tension and I hope that this will taper off in the months to come? I’ve washed it 5 times so far (by hand) and the finish is clear, without any marring when looked under different forms of lighting. No QD’s or spray waxes have been (or will be) used during this test so that no outside factors will interrupt with the results.

Because this car is silver, NO product/panel looks any different from the next. Darker colors would show *maybe* more of a variance. There's not a doubt in my mind that ALL sealants are still intact and protecting the finish. Each one beads similar and isn't allowing dirt to stick any more than the other. I can't help to mention that I've been watching Zaino(it directly in the path of my vision while driving) and during a rain storm, the beads of water fly off the *hood* much faster/different that Jeff Werkstat. I can't determine that this difference gives an edge to the competition without seeing more time pass.
