Will this buff out?

Scott, I'm just now seeing this for the first time, I've been in Houston for a few long days.

Glad to hear you're okay, I had an 03 Maxima before my F150 and used it to detail in. It worked great, had a huge trunk and plenty of back seat space as well. Not a bad idea for a detail car, plus I got one with those HID lights which light up the road incredibly. Very affordable too, plus great on gas.

Whatever you choose I'm sure will do you well.

Please let me know if you need any help catching up or whatever. I'm here if you need me.

My Dad dropped his '04 V6 Accord for me to drive until he and my Mom get back from a wedding in Iowa this weekend.

I've been pretty happy with my 04 V6 Accord Coupe that I picked up after my car was totalled earlier this summer. Good luck on your car search!

With both rear fenders wrinkled plus what appears to be extensive damage under the car and to the exhaust system, it might end up being a total.

I'd planned on getting a new (well, newer) car in the spring, either a V6 Accord or maybe an '02/03 Maxima.

Danin Re-he has Allstate. Good insurance but slow to pay. 3rd time I've been hit by someone with Allstate, first two times it took forever to get a check or repairs.

Sorry to hear that Scott, but good excuse to get a newer car ! :2thumbs:

I would go for good old USA made brands since they are dirt cheap, anyways here in Canada, not much demand for them !

$1500 or so, and that doesn't count the 4 new tires that I got via nails and Discount Tire certificates. $400 worth of tires for $60 (cost of new certs).

I'll bet it's a total loss. Looks like you need a floor pan, rear body panel and possibly a right frame rail which is alot of $$.

Make sure you tell your adjuster about the new tires. I reimburse people a large portion if they do repairs within 90 days. I've seen people spend $2000 on a replacement transmission and the next day their car gets totaled. We paid them 100%.

Start searching on Autotrader.com to find comparable vehicles so that they don't try ripping you off. They aren't required to buy you a replacement car, but they need to pay you based on what's out there. You mileage is a bid reduction BTW.

I don't know about down in TX, but up here in NJ those Maximas and the analog Infiniti get those HID's stolen out of them in broad daylight in malls and parking lots...a car drives up, two guys jump out and they get the lights out in 30 seconds and are gone...well, that was before Nissan came out with some retention kit...but I think with that they get them out in 40 seconds and bust up the car doing it.

AHAH! Alot of them actually steal them for the ballasts & ignitors bolted to the light. I've seen where they cut a hole in the fender wheel well skirt and un-bolt the guts from the light. Xenon parts bring in big bucks on the street.

I am also glad to see that you are safe.

I think that your car wins the award for the most shinest auto in an accident. If you use speed 6 on the PC you might get a couple of scratches out. : )

I've got receipts for everything I've done this summer-timing belt/water pump was about a month ago.

Not much I can go about mileage, bought the car in June 2004 and it had 82,000 miles on it, so I nearly doubled that in just over 3 years.

Allstate finally sent out an adjuster today (car has been at the bodyshop since Thursday) but I haven't heard back from him yet. 3rd time I've been hit by someone who had Allstate, and as expected (based on the previous two times), they are going to take their own sweet time resolving this.

Plus, my back and neck are bothering me still. Started therapy today but no adjustments on my back yet, the doctor wants some X-rays first and the person who does them wasn't in today. Now I have to start at 10 AM at least the next few and possible next several weeks, although I might see about getting late appointments for my back once the time changes. By the end of the work day, my lower back is pretty uncomfortable and I just have to deal with it. Both my boys are in college out of state so I have to suck it up for a while I guess.

Finding time to find a car will be tough too, I was booked up more than two weeks in advance when the accident happened. Really frustrating how one person not paying attention has really caused me a lot of problems.

Damn man, I just read this when I got in tonite. Glad to see you're still in one piece. Hopefully you wont be out of commission for too long.

Geez, sorry to hear that the resolution isn't moving quicker and that you're having after effects from the accident.

Have you started looking into another vehicle? I was thinking about what you were driving and what you have to carry around. What about a Mazda3 hatch? My wife & I have one and we absolutely love it. We've got a manual and we get about 34mpg on the highway. Average driving though is about 30mpg. With the rear seats down, it has a TON of cargo room. Just a thought.

Hope that things turn around for you soon!

After my 626, I will never own another Mazda. Solid drivetrain but the rest of the car is crap.

Allstate's initial offer was a little over $3400, plus they throw in tax/title and some transfer fee bringing the total to around $3750. Hell, my son got $2900 for a 1997 Cavalier. Not to mention I bought two new tires on September 29th and had the timing belt/water pump/tensioner done on September 19th.

According to my Consumer Reports, the V6 Accord is tops in the mid size car category, followed closely by the VW Passat (although pricey and avg reliability) and the Toyota Camry. The Maximas reliability scores have been good over the years, but not as good as the Accord. And you realize Scott the timing belt/water pump issue will not go away. Almost all Japanese cars use them, including Honda, and you will have to replace them sooner or later.

Not on the Mazda3. Time chain

That isn't a problem...but it is when I have it done and 5 weeks later my car gets totaled. :(

I had way more problems with the Mazda than just the timing belt-how about the crank pulley coming apart on me? Instrument panel lights burning out. Pressurized coolant tanks leaking after a year. Owned the car three years, replaced it three times. Alternator, a/c compressor, etc. The leather is garbage, the headliner in back was coming down, the weather stripping around the doors is glued on and every summer, the glue melts. The drivetrain seems very solid but the rest of the car is pretty cheap.

Isnt most of Honda Accord from '03 and up is chain driven? The Civic, I think from '06 and up is chain driven?

Timing chains can fail, just had it happen on my VW. Real PITA, had to find a used engine and swap it in. It's not common but it can happen. Lesson learned, do not run extended oil change intervals in a timing chain engine just 'cause you're using Mobil 1.

I don't think you can go wrong with an Accord or Maxima. Camries are reliable but kind of plain vanilla compared to the other two. I'm a VW owner but I'll say no way is a Passat as reliable as an Accord. But the interiors are first rate.

My Dad's 1985 Nissan 300ZX lunched the timing chain at around 48,000 miles, taking out both heads. Lucky for him he had the extended warranty.

If the redesign of the Camry wasn't (IMO) so hideous in 2002, I'd consider one. The new ones are nice but I drive 25,000 or so miles a year (put 81,000 on the 626 in 40 months) so buying new doesn't make sense.

The body shop I took my car to has an early 2000's Jaguar Vanden Plas that they will sell me for $13,500. New tires, recent maintenance, great paint but detailing out of a Vanden Plas? :nervous2: Yeah, it has a huge trunk but that interior is way too nice for me to get into after detailing all day in 90-100 degree temps. Plus I imagine servicing a Jag isn't cheap....

I guess Allstate is paying for a rental until I get a check for me car. First one they gave me was a Cobalt with nearly bald front tires so I took it back and they gave me a Mazda3 with the 2.0 (148 hp) and automatic. Not a bad car, decent acceleration for a small engine, gas mileage is definitely good. Excellent handling too. Cool purple background, red numbers and needles instrument panel and probably the best non-HID headlights I've seen. However, the trunk is pretty small, the carpet is crap (sort of like what most cars have in the trunk) that refuses to release debris and those cloth seats stain if you look at them wrong. Plus, I've obviously had reliability issues with me 626, so not likely I'd get another Mazda.

Honda Accord is a nice way to go as they are extremely reliable, fairly sporty for a sedan, have a huge trunk and keep a good resale value. Just picked up a 1998 Accord EX for my daughter and makes for an excellent driver.
