Tire finish, NOT high gloss!

Armor All Tire foam. The 2.67 can at chain stores. Spray it on and let sit for 15 minutes. Come back and wipe off. This process of wiping will also clean the tire again (assuming you cleaned before the foam!). You will have about a week of durability by itself. If you wish, you can top it with Armor All Tire Gel. Let sit for 15 and wipe with a damp cloth. Durability now will go to 2+ weeks. I use this process in all of my details.

The foam gets used to in the wheel wells and running boards. The gel also is used on trim.

Here are some shots......

...No, I really don't want a shine...

Last time I washed with a hose (I just tried ONR and won't use the hose 'til it warms up again), I cleaned my tires with the Woolite solution I use to clean the interior, just to see how it would look. I sprayed the solution liberally on the tire, scrubbed with a cotton towel (I don't use my MFs on wheels or tires), and rinsed off. On a car with new tires, they looked just like brand new tires with nothing on them. On my other car with three year old tires, they also looked like brand new tires with nothing on them. Almost black, with a sheen. Not a real shine, but not dry looking. Sorry, I did not take photos.

I realize this is off the wall, but you probably already have a spray bottle full of Woolite solution--give it a try and see if you like it!

Woolite I have. I will give it a go and see if I like it, thanks for the tip.

Most of you guys have really given some great advise on the various products. Since the cost of shipping has gone through the roof I am going to try and find some of the brands you recommended and give them a go to see how they react/look. I just really like the flat black wet look without any shine.

I like the teflon tire dressing, about 5 bucks, available OTC - its water based, too. I like the look it leaves...

You could use just about any tire dressing, and simply wipe the tire with a towel to produce a matte/satin finish.

Hi neighbor! I just noticed your location (Ashburn) , I'm across the river in Frederick , Maryland.

I tried your tip this morning (34 deg, winds to 40 MPH) and dam, you were right! I tried some Eagle One that was about 5 years old, which I know is shinny! Washed one tire, sprayed it down with the eagle one wiped it down with a work cloth (experiment). It came out with 1/2 the shine it would have had normally. I still didn't really like the look but it was a great step in the right direction, great tip!:goodjob

Before I get bashed for doing just 1 wheel, check out the temp & wind again. By the time I finished 1 wheel (outside) put away the bucket and stuff, wiped down the wheel I was freezing my tush off ! Come on Spring!!!!!!!!!!!

My recommendation for a low, deep black goes to Mother Reflections. I find that their other line, FX tire shine, provides an initial medium gloss that dries to a satin gloss.

I totally agree. I prefer reflections over FX easily. If you haven't tried mothers reflections tire care, give it a try. :up

I am glad the tip worked for you. The weather so far this winter has been pretty good. I knew that eventually the cold and wind would move in. I can handle the cold, but not the wind. It goes right through what ever you are wearing.

I'm on the works looking for what's best. Here are some samples of FX and Meguiars Hot Shine Gel...

Mother's FX-Like it, but durability is in question...:sadpace:

Meguiars-same as above, but I need to clean the wheel properly to check it...

Need to take pics with AA Original for later on...

I had brown tires to take care of, and after reading about different products/finishes I decided to set up my own trial.

First pic is of tire, treated with Megs NXT tire foam, scrubbed with brush, then a second coat of megs NXT applied and allowed to sit and do it's thing.

-brown was still there.

Second pic, on other side of car, was Megs NXT/scrubbed with brush, topped with Megs high gloss hot shine.

Third pic is like the first pic, (treated with Megs NXT tire foam, scrubbed with brush, then a second coat of megs NXT applied and allowed to sit and do it's thing), but topped with Megs gold class endurance gel.

Last pic is like first pic, treated with Megs NXT tire foam, scrubbed with brush, then a second coat of megs NXT applied and allowed to sit and do it's thing) but topped with Megs gold class endurance gel, AND wiped with towel afterward to cut down on gloss.

We'll see how these combos hold up throught the week. (1 rain day so far)

When I want a deep black matte finish I use PB Natural Look. WHen I'm looking for some gloss I use DP Gloss Tire Gel.

The PB NL I apply 2x or 3x, with ~10 to 15 minutes inbetween each coat. Any that is not absorbed I wipe off. Really deepens the blackness with little gloss. Lasts a real long time and doesn't brown the tires at all.

The fourth pic is the best, no question.

The first pic - I can't even tell the tire was treated - lots of brown.

The 2nd and 3rd pics are way too oily looking for my tastes.

The 4th pic looks good - I'd stick with that.

As far as gloss and ease of application, as well as value and versatility (can be used in engine bay) Armor All Tire Foam is HARD to beat.

BTW - Eagle One Tire/Wheel cleaner is amazing when you can see it working on the tires. It will actually ooze out brown gunk, which you can scrub hose off afterwards. It's pretty cool.

I'm actually surprised nobody has bashed me for the dirty wheel wells. (this is the correct autopia website right?) Gonna try the ole spray armorall tire foam up there trick i suppose,

but really, I think purchasing some Eibach lowering springs and making that gap about a finger or two....thus preventing folks from viewing the wells....(and improving cornering!) is an attractive alternative.

PS. It's rained twice. I'll get some updated pics to show how the treatment lasted on the tires.

Lower the car then it's harder to see the wells! :grinno:
