Overrated products

Every single product ever made has been mentioned in this thread. Everytime I think about trying something new and dishing out some serious loot, I come across a thread like this one and keep my wallet in my back pocket.

My choice, Viking MF

Not everything. Alot of stuff I use not mentioned

I don't love Zaino but I don't hate it either. To me, it is just another product line to fit in with everything else I use. My only real problem is that you pretty much have to use it as a system to get the best results while most other products I can mix and match at will.

If you listen to some of the faithful, you'd think Zaino cures cancer. :grinno:

nope it doesnt do that but does give a mile deep shine

As for sealers, I use glare, toughseal, permagard and sometimes Jeff's W.

Glare's got great durability and gives the best shine I've seen on my car, though it now gets driven quick spray concentrate on it by rotary or orbital after each wash (once a month) to make the finish even deeper, richer and glassier.

I think that many get so mixed up with the Zaino system that (zaio, z5x20, z2x30, z6 between layers, etc.) that they are convinced they have to do those steps everytime. Zaio/z5x1 (no ZFX), or CS/Z8.

My Overrated = TOL Grape and AW.

Not on my car's leather. It made it smell like the inside of an old leather glove. After getting in my car even my wife and my daughter commented that it smelled bad. Not to mention, it lightened my light gray leather, making it look almost white. The color went back to normal after I removed it with Sonus Leather Cleaner.

I used glare a few years back when it was the hype and I thought it was overrated. It had tons of fillers. The compound would remove scratches easy, so it looked. But, it actually just filled them. I did an IPA wipedown after all 4 steps and it removed everything and the finish was right were I started from. I contacted them to get my money back from the money back gaurantee, but they just ignored me.

The sealant lasted a few weeks and then faded away.

I had all four products and was not impressed at all. The price was steep too for the whole kit.

Sorry man, but I was very dissapointed with their stuff. Good looking fillers though.

So far for me, some seem better than others but almost all are good enough. It may take an extra swipe, etc. The only area where I see a meaningful difference is on glass. On towels, tend to lint a little when drying glass.

OK I see where you went wrong.

Don't do an IPA wipedown, that will just bring the marks back out.

You have to use glare professional polish as a polish after the others and then as a sealant to lock in the fillers, otherwise it won't work.

I put three coats of pro polish on and left overnight each time.

Product wiped off easily and the marks are permanently locked in.

Like polishing your paint and not sealing it, the shine will fade again.

It sounds like it's not possible but it works for me.

Please note : I just bit the bullet last year after five years of umming and arring and bought zero, knockout, spider, micro and pro polish and my car is better off because of that

So I'm very happy but still use other products on the car for maintenance like the driven quick spray concentrate.

Now I'm buying gallons for professional use.

But regardless of how successful it has been for me, Menzerna and other boutique products are there on the shelf and being used.

So it's a glaze, not a true polish (unless you're using Meguiars definition  )

Do polish (with the real stuff) before using the Glare 'polish'?

DG 105 and AW.

The car only saw 4 days of rain at most from my first observation of this combo.

I was so disappointed after using these two. I put on two coats of DG 105, cured 24 hours apart. Then AW 24 hours after the last DG 105 application.

First, DG 105 didn't do anything as far as looks goes. It seemed to dull my paint. The car looked better with just a wash and NO LSP IMO. Also, it wasn't too easy to get off. I found PB EX-P, and Liquid NXT MUCH easier on and off.

Second, as for AW, it did give the car a little 'glow', but it was so little it almost isn't worth mentioning. I only mention it because the car looked slightly better once I put AW on compared to just the DG 105

As far as durability from these two, It is good for the first couple of weeks, and will bead like crazy the first week. BUT, after about 3-4 weeks, beading dramatically drops offs. And the beads that do form aren't 'tight plenty' like they are within the first week. There are only a few 'loose' beads that act like the couldn't fully form.

I found that AW needs to be applied about every 3 weeks to maintain protection. I was highly disappointed.

From this experience, my liquid NXT/UQD combo was more durable, and looked better. I can't wait til winter is over to get this DG stuff off and try out all the new stuff I bought this winter.
