Jeff Werkstatt products

What do you do to prep your paint?



I read on one of the detailing guides on the forum that polishing is a good idea. Therefore my routine would be the following:



wash

clay

polish

Prime Strong

AJ-T

wait 12 hours

some type of wax-PS120??





Please let me know if you guys do something differently and what type of polish and wax you would recommend in this process

I'm new using the PC. As for my cars paint before buying a PC, it's in excellent condition with only a few swirls. I use Menz IP/ and Sonus SFX-1 with my PC to remove the defects before I seal my car with Zaino.



If I used the JW products, I'm sure my steps would be less, but for prepping my paint it would be the same.

Sorry but the abreviations are killing me.



I assume by PC you mean a porter cable? I am doing everything by hand, so would you recommend Menz IP and Sonus SFX-1 to polish? Do I need both or what is one good polish that is easy to use before using an AIO?

Midwesterner: AJT looks so good I wouldn't use a a carnauba wax over it. If you are tempted to put something on top of the AJT after washing I would put on Acrylic Glos, another coat of AJT, or Duragloss Aqua Wax (AW).



If you put a carnuaba wax on top of the AJT - you've committed to only rejuvenating your finish with carnuaba thereafter.



AJT and other acrylic sealants will not bond to a carnuaba wax and so if you put a carnuaba like P21S/S100 on the AJT you will not be able to put on more AJT without first stripping everything off with Prime and starting over.



Trust me - AJT looks good enough on its own that you will gain little if anything by topping with a carnuaba.
 
It all the depends. Just like you, I'm learing a lot. There's different polishes and compounds out there which serve a different purpose. If your cars paint has lots of scratches and deep swirls then you need a more agressive product using a (PC) porter cable.



Menzerna (IP) Intense Polish & Sonus SFX-1 are light to medium cuts. That's what I need since my paint is in great condition. I did a lot of reading and searching and people here helped me out. Remember there's a lot of abrasive products out there and you'll need to always start out with the least aggressive combo.



After you're satisfied with the results removing your defects, then you can use an AIO product and finally seal and protect your paint.

Miles, Thanks for the clarification. What do you do before applying prime? I assume you wash, dry, clay, but do you use a polish before appying the Prime?

I'm fortunate - the paint on my 2005 Mazda 6 was immaculate when I bought it and since I've kept it up since then I don't have to use a separate dedicated polish on it yet.



It only has very, very fine marring/spider webbing and it is a light brown color (pebble ash) so what little marring there is doesn't show much at all.



I just follow the following process for a full detail on my car:



1) wash tires/wheels with Meg's GC soap, car wash sponge(dedicated to wheel work) and Meguair's versa-angle tire brush

2) wash rest of car with Werkstatt Autobody Wash and 2 bucket method w/ Eurow Sheepskin wash mitt

3) dry car w/ Meg's Waffle Weave MFs

4) clay with Clay Magic clay bar and clay lube

5) wash car again after claying to remove all clay debris

6) dry car w/ WW MFs

7) polish/clean paint with Prime Strong using MF applicator pad and Sonus polishing MFs to remove Prime

8) seal paint with AJT x 2 using Pakshak Ultra Plush MFs

9) treat tires w/ Duragloss Tire and Matt Dressing #253 using Eagle One tire swipe

10) clean and seal wheels w/ Klasse AIO/SG, power scrubber MF applicator pad (for AIO), regular MF applicator pad(for KSG) and Target brand orange Vroom MF towels

11) clean windows with Meg's NXT Window Cleaner and Sonus polishing MFs





In between full details (which I do bi-annually) I wash the car w/ Werkstatt Autobody Wash and after washing I redo - the tires/wheels as set out above. I rejuvenate the AJT by using either 1) Werkstatt Acrylic Glos, 2) more AJT, or 3) Duragloss AW.



For bug splats/crap and minor dirt/dust when I don't have time to do a full wash, I use Werkstatt Quick Wash and the PakShak ultra plush MFs.

I also have Z-AIO and CS as well as the Werkstatt twins. I prefer the looks of AJ to CS but I think you can interchange Z-AIO and Prime if you wish. Maybe get a bottle of AJ or AJT to use over Z-AIO if you want to try them without spending too much money. Z8 plays very well with AJ.

I was about to ask a smiliar question. I have several coats of Z2p/ Z5p on my car. Will AJT bond with my Zaino? It's probably pointless since Zaino works well by itself, but I'm very interested on trying out Jeff Werkstatt's products.



I just bought some JW quick wash. I'll use that on my clear bra for the bugs, then use either Z6/Z8.
 
That may be something you can dicuss with Jeff Brandt.

Klasse may not be manufactured by Carlack now - but I believe there is still a link between the two companies.



My understanding is that Klasse's products were derived from some sort of arrangement with Carlack just as Werkstatt's products are now.



The fact that Werkstatt now apparently has the exclusive rights to Carlack products in the US doesn't change this.



I don't know exactly what that arrangement was/is between Klasse and Carlack - But, it is there. Perhaps Klasse and Carlack jointly developed the formulas for Klasse's products and Carlack originally manufactured it back in the 70s - but now Klasse owns the formula outright and has another company manufacture it? Beat's me.



But - the common link between Klasse, Werkstatt and Carlack is there nonetheless.



Moreover, the point I was making about Klasse being based on an older formula while Werkstatt is based on newer developments is also apparently true.

Once again.....Quick Wash has Acrylic Glos in it which makes it an excellent QD.

The number of really high quality detailing product lines is actually not a very long list. Werkstatt's one of 'em.
 
Well I find there's a fairly lengthy list. It just takes time to work out most products

Of course Menzerna and other German products are definately on the list.
 
Alright now that I have decided the JW products are very good, I have read some other threads which suggest I should think about a wax instead. One particular product that has been suggested are the Vanilla Moose and Hand Glaze from Clearkote. I think this may be a highly recommended product. I am curious what your expereiences are between the two and which would look better on a silver SUV that I got in December.

Here are two results I got from the Prime-Strong and AJ-T combo. I am an amateur and slightly noobish in car detailing. I don't use PC (yet). Do you guys think I'll get more wetness topping with carnauba?
