Jeff Werkstatt products

Hello everyone,

I thought I was a detailing fanatic until I found this website...Great tool for learning a lot of new products, techniques, etc.

I recently purchased a new car. I thought I was doing a great job using Meg Gold Class and some tire dressing, but now I realized I am simply a newbie! But I read hudreds of post all weekend. After going back and forth between different products, I have decided the Prime Strong and the AJ-T will be a great combo for my needs.

My question is with this system, what do you do between washes? ie If I apply the Prime and AJ-T this week, what do I need to do after washing my car next week? I am assuming I can put a layer of the Meg Gold Class on top of the AJ-T, correct? Or would you recommend using a quick detailer such as the acrylic glos (I think its a QD)??

Any personal stories/advice of how to use these products would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

I don't really think AJ-T needs a topper.

IMO - AJT looks so good by itself that it doesn't really need a separate carnuaba topper like some acrylic sealants.

I would advise just putting another layer of AJ-T on after your next car wash. AJT is so easy to use that it's like using a QD. AJT layers over itself very well.

If you want to conserve your AJT you could just touch up your vehicle with Werkstatt Arcylic Glos after the next wash. It won't add much protection but will add a little more slickness and gloss.

All of the Werkstatt products are excellent, the Werkstatt product line works very well together to produce a look that is 2nd to none, and Jeff Werkstatt himself is amazingly responsive to any questions you might have about the products via email. The Werkstatt customer service is above and beyond.

I use Werkstatt Prime Stong, AJT, AG, Quick-Wash, and Autobody Wash on my personal daily driver (2005 Mazda 6s) and couldn't be happier with the results.

Thanks for your response. I was wondering where do you use the AG in your detailing process and would you recommend purchasing it? It seems like something you would use after a wash just to restore the shine (like a Quick Detailer). I am thinking my money may be better spent on another bottle of AJ-T........

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT

Welcome to Autopia.

I had been a way for a bit, but since I have been back to the board I have been convinced the JW products are the way to go. I have purchased the PS and AJ but have yet to apply them. I had been using the Klasse twins. I asked the same question about a topper and was given the same replies. You don't need one.

I have since been conviced that AW could be a good topper and have tried it on my Klasse car. I must say the advice is good. It really makes the car look wet and adds depth.

I use Prime-Strong and AJ-T every 4 months. In between washes, I use Duragloss AW. Probably topping with AW is not necessary with the durability of Prime/AJT but I still do it anyways.

Thanks for your reply. I have also been convinced after doing my research that JW products are the best bang for your buck. It seems like they are user friendly as well. A huge plus for someone like me comming from using liquid paste wax his whole life.

Sorry to sound like a fool, but what exactly is "AW"? Is that a wax that you would use on top of the AJ-T? I understand you used it on top of Klasse, but any experience combining this with the JW products?

Is Duragloss AW (just figured out what AW is!!!) available over the counter? Do you use a QD as well?

In some Napa or Carquest stores its available. But I bought mine's online. I use AW as a QD, its cheap ($5.99) and it provides more durability.

okay so now that I have my cleaning supplies, what do I apply this stuff with?

This is what I thought:

JW Prime Strong: foam applicator pad

JW Trigger: foam applicator pad and remove excess with an old white t-shirt

AW: Old white t-shirt that is clean of course:chuckle:

Should I be buying mircofiber towels? I heard pakshack is a good site for things like this.

Also do you guys these products by hand?

Thanks again

JW Prime Stong: I usually apply using a MF applicator pad and remove with a good MF buffing towel. This is a good MF buffing towel: Microfiber Car Polishing Towel by Sonus

JW Trigger: You apply AJT just like a QD - with a good quality MF towel. You need at least 3 good quality "ultra plush" MF towels (the thick nap on the ultra plush MFs is good for QDs and a spray sealant like AJT). You use the less plush side of the towel to spread the product and the more plush side for a final wipe/buff. These are my favorite for this purpose: MICROPAK 16" x 24" Ultra-Plush Micro Fiber Towel

AW: See answer for JW Trigger.

You definitely need some good MFs and PakShak has some of the best.

IMO the Werkstatt line is a line of products that works particularly well by hand (I use all of my Werkstatt stuff by hand).

Whatever you do, please don't use the t-shirt. :nervous2:

For Trigger, I use mf towels. For Prime Strong, I usually use a foam pad, but via PC or Cyclo. I've never used it by hand with a pad.

Yeah - hopefully you were joking about the "old white t-shirt" thing.

MF towels are the way to go now for detailing purposes - most old t-shirts would probably leave swirls/marring in your paint.

I actually recommend the exact opposite when applying AJT; avoid MF's with a thick nap. The ultra plush MF's are great for QD's but not so good with AJT. I used PakShak's low nap ultra-fine MF. You'll find that AJT is a bit more "grabby" than a QD on initial application. With a ultra plush/thick nap MF you will have the towel roll up on itself. A low nap high quality MF will make application of AJT much easier IMO.

After a wash I usually just used a QD to maintain and the finish was still beading at 6 months. I alternated between using AG and 425 and both worked well with JW. AJT could be applied after every wash but IMHO you would just be wasting product, though it would go a long way in getting our detailing "fix." ;)
