Griots Garage?

bretfraz, you mean the $19 Chinese nozzel you bought, right?

Griot's Garage is a first rate business with an unbeatable guarantee what more can you ask for?

Try the car wash I will be very surprised if you ever use anything else.

Is this the nozzle you're referring to?

I have the same exact model purchased at Costco for $19. Why on earth would I pay $39.95, let alone $76, for the same item?

I agree that Griots is a fine business with an excellent guarantee. For those who base their buying decisions on those two criteria, Griots is a good company to do business with.

And I'll stick to Zaino Z7 and Eagle One Wet shampoo, thanks.

Griots Interior Cleaner, Leather Cleaner, Clay Bar and Speed Shine are in my opinion as good as anything on the market. I'm not a pro detailer so the price of these items doesn't really matter to me but I would say it's pretty much in line with others. I don't care for their Best of Show Wax.......to darn hard to remove. Customer service is superb.

Suppose I need to dust off my Autopia account and make a post here... :D

Griot's has very pretty catalogs that they love to send multiple copies of to the same address. I have a feeling that's part of the reason for their higher than average prices. I've called them at least 5 times to request that they only send me one catalog, yet they keep coming! It's like the Kramer vs. Pottery Barn episode.

As far as the actual products, meh - most are mediocre and overpriced...but there are a few stand-outs like the interior cleaner and the leather conditioner. I really love those products. The car wash was ok, nothing spectacular - there's certainly others that are as good as (or better than) their stuff.

All in all, if you didn't know any better and you had a pile of money that was burning a hole in your pocket I'd say there's nothing wrong with Griot's.

Oh, BTW, when we ordered our products for the Wheel & Tire Care Test, Griot's was the slowest to process & ship our order, and was also the most expensive. $24.95 to ship $32.45 worth of products via UPS ground. We received notice of the shipment a full 4 days after the order was placed, and it arrived 9 days later - nearly 2 weeks to get their stuff!

bretfraz- Do you have a link to that $19 nozzle? I really would like to buy it. Thanks. :)

No I don't. I didn't get it off the net, I bought it at my local Costco. It was in the automotive aisle. Like most warehouse club inventory it comes and goes.

At Sams Club I bought a similar nozzle, not quite as hefty but still better than almost any other nozzle out there, for $12.73. Made by the same company, Bonaire, just not as heavy duty.

If you can get into Sams or Costco locally, have a look. They might still be available.

I bought my "Pro Bucket" for $20 at Home Depot. Same thing as Griot's yellow bucket......except it's blue. Otherwise some things are decent price while others are out of control. I use their washmitt with linear....lifesaver this past winter.

Another thing Griot's can be good for is when people want to buy "something nice for the car nut" as a gift. Accumulatorette heard me complaining about how I keep breaking Craftsman ratchets :nixweiss so one Christmas she got me one of those fancy Facom sets with all the do-dads. I never would've bought it for myself, but it was a swell present and it makes me smile every time I use it. And she got to feel (correctly) that she got me something special.

If you like the Griot's clay, and I've been happy with it for years, you oughta try the Autopia Block & Glide combo. It's the "other" style of clay and it's interesting to use them both.

geekysteve - Heh heh, after I sent back $300 worth of stuff, they quit sending me all those catalogs, I actually had to call and ask for a new one!

What car washes do you prefer over Griot's? I'm a fan of "high lubricity", if that matters. I had used Pinnacle, but it seemed to strip wax and it's pretty expensive to buy in quantity. Always interested in finding something I'll like even better...

If you go to sears.com and search for "hose" you'll see the

same nozzel "craftsman" for 15.99. If you have a

tool membership card you can get it at your sears store

for $14.39. I have a raincheck for 2 of them. The craftsman

brand looks identical to the bonair. I'd be willing to bet

bonair makes them for sears.

Accumulator - I'll have to send back all of my stuff, perhaps then they'll stop sending me 5 catalogs with each mailing. :D

Not to hijack the thread, but as far as washes go, I really like:

Eagle One Wet, P21S Bodywork Shampoo and Zaino Z7 (for Zaino app's only).

Z-7 has the most lubricity of any shampoo I've tried. In fact, the difference is pretty dramatic when compared with shampoos like Mothers, Pinnacle & OneGrand.

The difference in lubricity is a bit more subtle when comparing it to some other excellent shampoos like P21S & E1.....but no other shampoo has that feeling of "your mitt not touching the car". I've pretty much decided to use it on all my cars, regardless of what they're being protected with. I have my reservations about Zaino's polishes, but I'm a big fan of Z-7 & Z-6.

However, I should mention that I've never used GG's shampoo.

Thanks for the wash recommendations, guys. I'll keep them in mind.

Back on-thread, I got the plastic-sleeved lug nut sockets from Griot's. VERY nice for wheels with exposed lugs, but pricey! Anyone know where they might be available cheaper?

I have had good results with griots products, the clay, wax, and cleaners. The only thing I had a problem with was the boars hair brush for SUVs, it left hair line scratches all over. Their carnauba wax works great it go's on and off like s100. The prices are a little high but their products look good and do a great job.

drd- Welcome to Autopia, and thanks for the link. Yep, that's the socket set alright, and a LOT cheaper than Griot's!

zx1200r - Yeah, the flow-through brush isn't NEARLY as soft as their other brushes. I sent mine back.

Thank you - glad to be here.

My GF got me a gift cert for Griots - was all set to use it toward my PC, until I saw their markup. Yikes!
