Whatever you guys decide to do from all this, don't go buying DG all at once and causing an "autopia" effect like what happened with the Eurow towels! They've already upped the price on AW within the last year!

While I believe it is entirely possible that zaino is re-labelled duragloss, you guys saying zaino is worth the extra little cash are forgetting one very important thing.

Duragloss offers EVERYTHING (even their sealants) in gallons, while zaino does not. So when you say they price difference isn't huge, you are forgetting that an entire gallon of 111 (one of duragloss's sealants) is only $56.

I am not saying that I dont believe in spending extra on certain products, I do many times.

Also, please remember, Sal does NOT have his own factory, so whether it's duragloss or not, he does not make his products.

isnt that because you have to provide an msds at the consumers request if supplying in over 1gal?

If in fact DG and Zaino are one in the same companies, it would make perfect sense. You have your OTCish consumer line, and your high end boutique with a stranglehold on distribution. I like that.

That is what happened with Race Glaze products. One of the owners wanted to go retail while the other prefered to remain a boutique/enthusiast level product. They parted ways and the Long Haul product line made its way to store shelves. I got wind of it when I had a sample of the Race Glaze QD on hand and saw the Long Haul products at Pep Boys. The Truck Gloss (QD) was on sale so I figured I'd get it for clay lube. Used it the next day and damn if it didn't smell EXACTLY like the Race Glaze QD. Poured them into glasses and the color was exactly the same too. I found the Long Haul website and sent an e-mail to them about my findings. I get an e-mail back asking for permission for the owner to call me. Anyway, he called, said he wasn't putting anything in writing but confirmed the connection. He said the QD was exactly the same but there were minor tweaks in the polish/sealant for better durability with his version. A few months later, I bought Truck Gloss again and the smell was completely different! :grinno:

Also, please remember, Sal does NOT have his own factory, so whether it's duragloss or not, he does not make his products.

If you have proof please post it. I'd like to see it and I'm sure others would as well.

Does Sal have a brother in business with him? I don't recall anyone ever referring to his brother when talking about Zaino. If you go to Zainobros.com, it automatically links to zainostore.com. I'm not familiar with Zaino's history, but at some point was Bros. part of their name? I don't see anything on their website at the moment referring to Zaino Bros, so maybe it's a marketing strategy to make them look different than Brothers Research of DG. With DG on the otherhand, I know some people have actually talked to one of the brothers.

I started using Zaino 6 years ago and took a look at my original URL that I still use--- http://www.zainobros.com/ -- which takes you to the Zainostore.com as you mention. I got to thinking about it and seem to remember that at one time on the Zaino website it mentioned that Sal's brother was a chemist who developed the products for Sal who was the auto enthusiast.

Obviously this thread will not solve the mystery, but hopefully it has opened some eyes to the possibilities. We can go on and on but unless we have a chemical analysis done there is no other way to tell, by what we see and smell. I personally feel that the products are one in the same, which is totally subjective.

Take the products and come to your own conclusion. There is some pretty strong evidence that they are the same to me though, and not much is going to change that but proof to the contrary.

even doing an analysis, it would probably still come back inconclusive, it COULD very well be that the compounds between DG and Zaino are similar, but the concentration amounts could be different

That's pretty interesting! I guess the brother must still be involved due to the continuing evolution of the Zaino products. The Zaino site doesn't have any company history now, unlike the DG site:

"Brothers Research Corp. was founded in 1975 by Dr. William Bailey and his brother, Jerry to begin marketing a new automotive appearance product.

Because of their dissatisfaction with the products being offered at the time, these two car enthusiasts (and chemists) began in 1973 formulating their own automotive polish. "

A member on here had PMed me and told me about Sal's brother, Tommy. How come no one here ever talks about Tommy? The mystery just gets deeper and deeper. Even Scooby Doo & Gang are stumped on this one LOL
