BillNorth is the man! (and his klasse technique)

Wow... I've been cursing at my bottle of Klasse for 2 months now, for no reason at all....

I'm one of the guys who would kill someone over a bottle of AIO, but until this point would rather clean out the litter box than deal with trying to get SG off... I was letting it sit for over an hour, then trying to get it off with QD, with no luck what-so-ever... By the time I was done with the QD, I had QD streaks everywhere, and had to top with something else anyway, just to get the surface uniform...

If this method gives you the durability and shine that SG is famous for, without the hassle, Bill N. will be officially added to my hero list.. I can't wait til tomorrow morning to find out..

Quick Question for all who have tried it.. Hows the durability? Same as before? Is it still protecting like that clear acrylic shield I expect it to be???

I'm so excited....

Argh, my e-mail notification isn't working!!

Bill, I applied with a foam yellow app and removed using the traditional damp MF followed by dry MF method. After three coats, the shine on my wife's jet black bimmer was amazing.

I can't wait to try out your method though. It looks like your method eliminates any difficulties in removal AS WELL AS any kind of 'hazing' or oily smears. Does the shine after a single coat improve as well?

BTW, I agree with Ali, you are the man!! I still remember your initial experiences with Klasse. I gotta hand it to yah...you stuck with it and found a method that is going to benefit a lot of us!!

Tony

Tony,

Klasse really does shine on black! I remember seeing some pics of another members jet black bimmer with SG. It looked outstanding!

Yes, the shine does improve with multiple coats. On my blue MB the shine is unbelievable. It looks like glass. Three apps of SG really go well with the colour. I applied my 3 coats a week apart after my regular wash. On my green bimmer, the shine also improved, but the SG didn't bring out the colour the way I wanted. It still looked like glass after three coats applied weekly, but it felt like it was missing something. So I topped it with blitz one week after the third coat. The blitz definately finished the look on the bimmer. The MB has no topper btw, just 3xSG.

Thanks for the kind words. The thing that kept me with klasse was its durability. I knew there had to be a way to avoid the oily haze/film, without having to spend hours buffing off dried SG with a dry towel (I believe the wet towel gave me my initial problems). This method that I've come up with seems to be the best of all worlds. All the benefits of SG, plus an easy, no hassle application and removal technique.

Let me know how it goes when you try it.

Bill.

Blackntan,

I used to let it sit for over an hour as well. I removed using a dry towel. I was lucky enough not to get the smears you speak of, but I spent at least an hour trying to buff it off. It wasn't a very pleasant experience. Even when I was done I missed some spots.

For me, durability is the same as with the previous method (so far). I applied the first coat of SG to the bimmer in the last week of july, and to the MB in the first week of august. It's been approx three months since the 3rd coat was put on for both cars. I just washed them both this past weekend and the SG was repelling and sheeting water like a champ!!! Just like it always does.

I'll know for sure come next spring. This past spring, my SG was still sheeting and repelling water (not as much as a fresh coat, but enough to impress me). If it acts the same way next spring, then I will deem the new method a 100% success.

Let us know how you like the new method.

Bill.

Bill-

Having HATED Klasse for two years, I finally tried your method...WOW! I mean, it was just a small test, but I think I will order up some AIO, then hit the car up with some #9 and a white pad, some aio with the white pad, and then some SG with some sort of topper. I think this is gonna be a mean combo! Thanks for the tip!

Brett

I did it and love it!!! I don't have to wait an hour anymore!! I guess I forgot to wipe a panel off because it's very hazy right now...especially when dirt is stuck onto the panel now since it's been raining the last couple of days so I'll try to wash it and layer another coat of SG before the day ends. Thanks for the tip Bill!!!

Hate to break it to you guys, but this isnt a Bill North tip, it's a Klasse tip that written right on the bottle. Read and follow directions, same procedure, same great results.

technically it isn't but he was the only one that tried it and let us know that it worked. Everyone else on the board was still letting it dry for an hour plus. I still thank Bill for mentioning this to the board and I feel he deserves credit for helping everyone out, thanks Bill :)

That Klasse tip isn't written on my bottle. And the 'alternative' application hasn't been described on the KlasseDirect.com site for that long. Presumably no product update only application.

That's the problem with Klasse - no easy way to get product information.

RH, my buddy!! Good to see you again! It's been a while, but sadly, not long enough.

Maybe if you followed my posts a little bit more closely, you would have read how I credited Bob from Klasse USA for recommending this tip way back when. I can't remember which of the old schoolers sent him the email asking about application and removal technique, but it was definately someone from this forum.

Oh and BTW, my bottle of SG also says nothing of Wipe on wipe off. I guess your bottle is extra special, kind of like it's owner. :D

PS: Where is your buddy RIC? You two were the ultimate one-two combo back in the day.

Anyway, its been real as usual.

To the rest of the forum,

I'm glad I could be of service. Klasse is a great product! Let's keep eachother posted on durability using this method.

Ah Bill, my buddy, knew you missed me! ;-)

I'll have to scan my bottle and post for ya'll....

Please do.

And, for the record, my bottle of SG says "EASY ON, EASY OFF" in caps. No mention anywhere of wiping on, then IMMEDIATELY wiping off.

You and I both know the people at Klasse are notoriously vague about their product. We'd have a better chance of performing a root canal on a crocodile then getting hard and fast answers from the Klasse people. The info we (the forum, not a mouse HelrotCi) got from Bob @ Klasse USA is probably the most detailed official information to come from them.

Anyway, show me your bottle. Maybe you have an updated one from the rest of us.

I'm intrigued...

Your buddy,

Bill N.

Hey Bill, how would you describe your car's paint slickness post wash with your technique? When I stumbled on this forum Klasse is what I began using and to this day still love it however, I discovered I was into "slickness" and for the last two years have been a Z man. I used what I refer to as Showroom L's technique for removal, after it dried for 30 or so minutes, damp MF. Initially it is a great feel, but after the first wash squeaky clean. There's always room on my shelf for Klasse. Slick finish for yours?

Just put two more layers of SG on each of my cars over the Holiday weekend using this wipe on wipe off method and it worked great.

Yum, never knew how well crow tastes for breakfast....

It's AIO that says no drying time necessary, NOT SG. However, in my defense, it does say very thin layer and wipe after drying - which is about 1-3 minutes tops anyway.

So anyway, kudos to Bill for spelling it out.

Peace.

Likecars,

Regardless of which app/removal method I use my SG displays the same behaviour. That being, any newly applied layer has a slippery feeling up until the first wash. After that, it is still smooth, but the slipperyness disappears. It doesn't concern me too much becuase the car still loks great, and the SG is still doing it's job of protecting. I know what you mean, I love the slipperyness too. I can live with SG the way it is. No product is perfect. Though I would like to try Z this summer and compare.

Thanks for the half-kudos. I suppose that's the most I can expect from you :D .

Back in the day we debated about dry time as well. Most of us thought SG did in fact need an hour to dry. A lot people also thought that the longer it dried the easier it was to remove. I don't think I necessarly spelled it out, because frankly, it isn't that obvious that 1-3 minutes is the max dry time. Maybe it was obvious for you. But I know I didn't infer that from the bottle itself. It was Bob's direct tip that got me to try it. Granted, I didn't do it right away becuase I was skeptical about it, like many of us were at the time. But desperation this past summer drove to do it.

Take it easy.

High summer temps & humidity makes the drying problem worse. Better in other seasons. 50-60F in the shade is my favorite temp.

Likecars, Klasse SG applied the wipe on wipe off way def. creates a slick surface unlike the 1 hr wet MF technique. I like klasse again now!!!:)
