Mentioned your car this evening, I was driving the wife's 08 Edge and as it rolled 23456.7 :)

Original engine, trans, and clutch?

Yep

it's the maintenace that matters!

True, you could probably get this kind of longevity out of a lot of makes/models if you're vigilant about maintenance.

I see you're a road warrior as well.

Love the road! This is (obviously) mostly highway accumulation. Almost 40 of the 50 states driven thru.

forgot to ask and excuse me if it was already addressed, how many times have you replaced the clutch and at how many miles?

I still got that vid from the news you did Tyson, but I don't know anywhere to upload it...youtube kept erroring out and photobucket has been wonky.

The original has never been changed

Beautiful car in great condition! I assume it doesn't see salt too often?

Saw salt for two winters when I was going to undergrad in northern Utah, but I was pretty vigilant about keeping it clean. These days it sees salt maybe once a year at most. This is how the car looked in winter '04.

Hey Ike!! Good to see you on here. I don't have the video uploaded anywhere but it's still viewable on the ABC 15 news website.

I just had to put my first post in this thread. I read every page of the 300,000 mile thread when that was active, this is simply amazing. I've long been a fan of Legends, it's wonderful to see one still on the road for so long and in such good condition. May I ask how on earth you've managed to never need to replace the rotors?

I'd love to see the service guy's face when he peeks inside the car to see how many miles are on the odometer. Just, wow.

Thanks again guys --

Hey it's an honor to have been the topic of your first post ;). Never changed the rotors...

Stick shift baby!

6-speed!! Love it. Not too common on these cars. I have a 4 door 6-speed too.

Can't wait to see 500k! Shouldn't be too long of a wait at the rate you drive! lol

My mileage has tapered off a little but I still drive a heck of a lot. Maybe 500k within the next few years...

That's my favorite part about taking the car in for maintenance at a dealership where it hasn't been before. Some classic looks & comments :)

Rolled 412k today and got a cell phone pic.

That car always impresses me. It goes to show how well a car ages when it well maintained and in a climate where there is not a lot of salt :).

Well this car, for how the recent years have accumulated all the miles, must be doing lots of hwy driving and you don't use brakes that much with highway driving. Its not stop and go 400K+.

Congrats on the car...she sure looks great for the age!

I will say though for those saying that the domestics aren't in the league, from knowing a few taxi drivers here in Las Vegas, Ford Crown Vics seem near the top for high mileage reliability of any car. Cab companies here don't get rid of them till about 300K and those cars have almost ALL stop-and-go Las Vegas driving and in 100+ degree heat- the definition of abuse. Plus the drivers are always puttin the pedal down which comes with driving like a cab driver. Regular maint. though lets them live a long and serviceful life.

I would not hesitate to buy that car if it was for sale! The maintenance records alone make that car invaluable! I also love the Type S wheels!!

While I was initially amazed by the condition, I felt somewhat deflated once I reviewed the $$$$ spent to keep the car in this condition. Not cheap! In reality, many cars could have that showroom-new condition if you threw enough money at them (and had an attentive owner/driver).

I think that last part is the critical factor. Now, I'm hardly unbiased (having just written the lastest few four-figure checks for my older cars :o ), but I think that most people simply wouldn't be up to doing what it takes (not just financially) to keep something going like that. IMO it's maybe cheaper (well, for Euro cars anyway..) and definitely *easier* to just buy/lease something new every few years.

"A-men" on what you say. Some of these cars get so foolishly expensive to service/own as they cross north of 100k miles that it makes little sense to try to keep them going. I, too, have come to realize this over the past couple of years.

Don't get me wrong, OP clearly has a love and the understanding for keeping this vehicle in exceptional shape. I have the utmost respect for that. It's just my enthusiasm was dampened a bit when I saw the total cost for getting there.
