402,000 Mile Acura Legend

What kind(s) of oil have you used in those 15 years?

Congrats man. It is rare for any vehicle to reach that many miles and remain that well kept.:2thumbs:

Amazing amount of longevity. Didn't see it on the spreadsheet, but, was the interior changed/replaced? Looks so clean and unworn.

See ya. :wavey

I remember the 300k thread.

^ what he said.

This is a real testament to Honda's quality and the owner's dedication...pretty awesome. I have a couple of friends whose Hondas are rolling close to 300K, a '96 Civic Ex and a '93 Integra GS. They still run great, but can't touch this Legend cosmetically.

Long shot:

OP, do you ever do the Hurricane, UT Easter Car Show? I swear there's an insanely clean high-mileage Legend there every year.

Beautiful, beautiful car - and an inspiration to me. I just had the good fortune of being able to purchase a new Acura TL Tech. I would love to try to reach the milestones you've already reached.

There is a gentleman who lives about ten miles from me who owns a car that has the distinction of having the most miles on a privately owned car. It's a '66 Volvo P1800 that he bought new and it has way over 2 million miles on it. The Volvo factory has given him a new car twice and flew him out to Sweden to tour the factory.

I see no reason why your car can't reach the same goals - you're already off to a good start. Can't wait to see the 500,000 mile post. Good luck...Carmine

those Legends are nice... really nice. I had 1991 Legend I bought in 1998 with 42k miles. Sold in 2003 with 299k miles to get Acura TL. Should of kept Legend. I had no problems at all. Changed struts a few times timing belt few times and oil every 3k miles. The build quality was way better on Legend then Tl I got.. Perfect name for that car too :)

Let us know when you hit 500k..

Thanks again all for the feedback.

Just conventional 5W30.

The spreadsheet doesn't include accessories (the spoiler, wheels, stereo, OEM fog lights that I added) nor does it include the cost of redoing the leather. In 2004, I had a Katzkin two-tone kit with embroidery installed. It ran me about $600 and my brother installed it for free. Great quality - highly recommended.

That's me. I'm from St. George (heading there next week for the holiday). I've entered the show every year since 2004, just not always in this Legend. Last year I was in my mom's red '94 automatic. Weather was crappy!

My next door neighbor is his mailman. He is a retired teacher who is now occasionally employed by Volvo. He told my neighbor, "Who would have thought when I bought this car that it would lead to a 2nd career?" He said that when they have a car show in LA or Texas or any other place, they ask if he'd like to go there and show his car. If he does, he drives there with the car. Certainly no trailer queen. His license plates say (without the vowels) MILLIONMILER. His name is Irv Gordon from Patchogue, N.Y. No privacy issues here - just google his name and you'll understand why...Carmine

Congratulations. Outstanding car care!! We have a guy in our local Mercedes club that has hit the half-million mark on his 1997 S320. The darn thing still looks showroom-new.

I am very impressed with the way that you have taken care of your Acura.

lol, I remember having a pretty long conversation with you a couple years ago at teh show. How in the world are you up to 400k ALREADY?

From St. George to. In fact, if you're ever in town, come by my event we throw...

Can't believe how insanely clean the Acura is to this day. Absolutely astonishing.

very nice work.

i can only wish that i can drive my car to 400,000 miles.

it certainly helps that you do not live in the snow belt.

Congratulations! You've taken a great care of that car!

I'll look forward to reading your post when you reach half a mil!

Outstanding and inspirational. Your story really teaches a lesson in finding what you really want in a car and being content. I know so many people who buy a brand new car, eat all that depreciation and then get bored with it in 2 years and buy another brand new car.

I'd echo what someone else mentioned about taking on some of the maintenance yourself. At least on the oil changes you could cut the price of those in half at least. But at the same time, not everyone wants to crawl around on the garage floor under the car. :)

Nice! Live here in St. George too.

Original engine, trans, and clutch?

If the big three want to get back market share, they need to build a car HALF as durable as a Honda.

GREAT thread.

Dont know what u r talking about but most NYC taxicabs, police cars & fleet cars for government agencies are either Chevys, Dodges or Fords.

I have seen plenty of American cars hit 300,000 miles.

American iron is strong.

Anybody can buy a car, it's the maintenace that matters!

Kudos.

It's great to see such passion and dedication to a vehicle. And it shows beautifully.

I see you're a road warrior as well. I turned in my '08 Legacy for a '10 earlier this month with 88k on the clock.
