Zaino

Well I gave it another try again last night...

Wash (no clay needed)
IPA
ZAIO (like this stuff and it worked very well)
Z6
Z2/ZXF (not good)

No matter how thin I apply Z2 it never dries and just smears up the paint. I let it cure for 1.5hrs and I even had the A/C on to help remove any humidity. I don't like having to apply a wax so thin that I can barely see it on the paint, which is what I did last night...but how can you tell if your getting coverage if you can't see it? Sure I know I wiped over that area but if I can't see it leave something behind how do you know if it is?

...I just don't have time for fussy LSP's :banghead:

Rask,

This worries me. Hopefully I'll have better luck.

It was pretty humid last night though...which shouldn't matter IMO as my other sealants work just fine.

FWIW, I have had it work well and dry fast on occasions. I just haven't been able to get it to work well on my TSX.

Wonder why the ZAIO dries so nice but the Z2 has issues?

Doesn't ZFX make it dry quicker? Why not add another drop of the ZFX? I have never used Zaino, I did read their site for a while and have thought about trying it but decided to stick with WD....its tried and true for me.

Any streaking issues I've had with any of the Zaino products, have been easily removed with Z6 or Z8 detail spray.

The other thing I've done is to try to work in an air conditioned garage, but that's not always possible!:D

Humidity always matters with Zaino. It's the only sealant I've used that never dries, even when left over night. I've used Zaino products since late 1999, and the new Pro stuff streaks and smears. I can't remember having this problem with their previous Z2, and Z5. (When the humidity is high).

Luster, I've tried the Z-6, and Z-8 before and it made it worse. The Z-8 was much worse until I diluted it. lol

A damp microfiber and a lot of elbow grease was the only way I removed the smears and streaks. Zaino looks great, but to be honest it was a PITA to me.

I'm glad it last so long. Because it's not something I would enjoy applying every weekend, or every month. :D

nosbusa, where are you located?

I'm sure your climate is to blame for the streaking, I usually get a few streaks with Zaino that are visible on darker colors, but it is so minimal that you have to be at just the right angle in the sun to notice it and it goes away after a wash.

True, when I used the Z6 for a wipedown to remove streaking, I did dampen the microfiber with water first. Streaks came off fairly quickly, but still, it was an extra step.

In mid to low humidity conditions, I have had zero problems with Zaino.

I was able to remove it easily with Z6 and Z8...though I found I had to do it in smaller sections than normal. ;)

I did have the A/C on too.

I'm in MS. Yeah, it's the climate. It's hot and very humid during the summer. It's not the products fault. I just know when to and when not to use it.

Oh c'mon, Luster...you mean you don't like seeing how much fluid you can sweat out of yer body in a day's work!? Not to mention the advantage of never having to stop and pee! ;)

Rasky, tell us what was the amount of Z2 and the number of drops of ZFX??

Did you shake the 2 at least 90 seconds and let it sit for a few minutes while you prepped the car (Z6 wipedown, etc.) and then pick up the mixed bottle and shake it again for a little while?

I always use a little more ZFX to my mix which is usually 1/2 oz of Z2 or Z5 and 3-4 drops of ZFX. If its more humid I use 4 drops, dry, I use 3 drops.

Never have streaking issues, not drying issues and I dont have the luxury of an air conditioned garage. I put a fan on the floor and it blows air around.

By the time I have gone all the way around a vehicle with this mix, it is about time to start taking it off and I never get streaks, messiness, etc..

The only time I might get a little streaks is with the Clear Seal which Im still trying to find the right technique for me. This I always let dry for a few hours or over night, and then wait till afternoon of the next day and put on another coat if I have the time before I have to release the vehicle.

How old did you say your products were ? I know that Zaino has certain shelf life and alot depends on the temps and environment it is stored in.
Someone on the old DetailersClub website once posted the shelf life of all their products, but I am sure you can get it from Sal or better yet, just ask him in an email or phone call.

I agree it is extremely hard to see the thin coats of the product, I try to get an angle where I can sometimes see it but just try to do overlapping strokes with a squirt or two of Z6 on the pad to help it lube up the pad, until you have a enough lube on the pad to keep it moist so it doesnt drag.

Look at it this way - since the coats have to be super thin, you may not be able to see it but rest assured, its going on especially if you do like half a hood at a time, before getting a few more drops and doing the other half.
I think I read somewhere once, that if you can see the coat on the paint it is probably too much product. I know, I know, :) just pay attention to your application and overlap.

Once the first coat is down, dried and wiped off, the succeeding coats go on way easier. in my experience with it.

I dont know if Sal looks at this site or not, but he used to sometimes chime in at the old one we used to frequent.

Good luck with this - let us know how it turns out.

It is sorta weird to apply a product and not see it on the paint.

If you think you need to add more product to the applicator, wipe the applicator on the glass, if you see the product on the glass then you know enough of it is being applied on the paint.

Good point! On a white car you can't see it at all!!! Did I wipe it or not?;)
