What do you think of MOTHER's products?

Each store can carry only so many lines. Also, Mothers is a (theoretically) "widely available from retail stores" type brand, meaning you should be able to pick some up locally and save on the S+H. With this in mind, unless you don't have someplace local selling it, it wouldn't make much sense to pay for S+H on top of the retail price, so it might not move very well from an online retailer.

(Just my thoughts. I don't know for sure the exact reasons. ;) )

Online stores such as here and autogeek, et al also deal mainly in a lot of items that are limited availibility.. Most of those items are higher priced and that equals more profit from a sale. For someone who is detailing for a living or a supplement to their income, boutique stuff makes sense , wow the customer with items that they can't get elsewhere and do themselves(or know how to use) easily... I myself won't pay for wax that is more than $15 or so (nxt) and since I only do our cars, I think they look great to me and others.. and a lot of Mother's stuff does just that for me.

Also, I started using Mothers after Forrest showed me personally how to use a swirl removing product on a rainly April morning under a canopy with the PC. So I have always had several of their red bottles under the kitchen sink and most likely will, I'm looking to grab the reflections stuff soon at a PB when I'm near one.

Whatever works for you and makes YOU or the customer happy, whatever the case may be, just use it. :) Any detailing at all on your car is better than 90% of the ones running around with no care to them at all, other than maybe a scratchomatic drive through now and then.

oddly enough I just tossed a half-full bottle of truck gloss in the trash last night. QD'd a vehicle with it and 2 hrs later the garage still stunk with the essence of truck-stop $2 cologne.

Glad I only paid $2 for it at AZ on closeout.
Man, if I threw away products based on the smell, I wouldn't have much left to work with.

Mother's now owns Mark V. I personally believe that Mark V make the best detailing chemicals on the market. They also make imposter versions of 3M's excellent compounds at a fraction of the cost.

Can you elaborate on this?

I just bought a bottle of the FX spray wax, and it is not as easy to remove on a cool clean car that has Meg's #26 on it. Is there something that I am missing? When wiping down with a MF the product "catches" significantly more than any QD type i have used. Do I need to let it sit longer/shorter periods of time?

I really do like Mothers, and I'm glad I ran into this post. I have and use alot of Mothers products and it's frustrating that nobody really says much about the product on here. Mothers is a HUGE company in wax and polish, not to mention known very well in the market. Eventhough Mothers is mainly an OTC product it is very hard to find the entire product line at retail stores, one store carries this Mothers product the other store carries a different Mothers product. However it's probably less hassle just to order what you want from autogeek or mothers website.

My feelings on Mothers Line:

Powerball line is probably the best thing that has come from Mothers. I love the powerball regular and mini. My headlights need restoration so I'm planning to try the headlight product.

Back to Black - it seems to work well, and is pretty easy to use but wouldn't use it on things like with rubber/vinyl, mainly just hard plastics. One thing about the product is that living in washington I have noticed that the product wants to run alittle in the rain. I've yet to confirm this if it's the product or just not used properly. However, I feel that there shouldn't have to be any little tricks on how to use this correctly.

FX Spray Wax - Very pleased with the product, however it states can be used dry or wet surface. My experience is don't even get a drop of water on it or it will be much harder to buff away. Really adds another added depth to the finish.

California Gold Step products - Easy to use, one of the best carnuba waxes on the market. Have yet to do any major paint corrections as far as hiding swirl marks and such so I don't really know. Car wash I don't think is anything amazing to what else is out there, but ok.

Clay Bar - If they sold this seperately or in bulk this would be great, but it's probably best to buy another clay for the cost. Because it's really only sold as a kit, if you plan on detailing more regularly it's best just to buy the clay by itself from another company.

Misc Exterior and Interior - seem to work fine and easy to use, gets the job done. Maybe not the best or the most efficient but pleasing and works. Able to get these products in bulk which is great.

You may encounter slight smearing with the FX, if you apply it too heavily OR there are minor incompatibility issues with the underlying products.

Personally I haven't used it over #26, but for a more uniform application, spray it on the towel and not onto the body panels. 2-3 trigger pulls can cover 2-4 panels.

I apply FX Spray Wax more like regular wax. I spray the surface with a shot then use an applicator to spread evenly then remove with a dry towel. A little goes a long way.

Try it in the sun. Not fry-an-egg-on-the-hood type of sun, but if you do small sections and just mist and wipe and use it sparingly it is good stuff. Also, did you shake it well? I have also noticed that some spray products that have been sitting for a while don't work right for the first few pulls of the trigger. I think that some products separate in the sprayer/tube and no amount of shaking can mix it. IIRC, FX Spray Wax is one of those products.

Almost forgot to mention that FX Tire Shine is my favorite. Nice satin look, easy to apply, and no sling when applied with a foam applicator.

Keep in in mind that it's a spray *wax*, not a QD.

With that in mind, I spray sparingly on a panel and wipe-to-spread then wipe-to-remove with a separate MF. It's rich and thick so if you over-apply it can feel grabby to remove.

Just a light mist does it. Less is better.

Thanks for all the tips. I have applied it too liberally then. I was treating it like a QD. I was making sure the whole panel was wet. However, I did shake the bottle first and in between panels but did not go back over it with a separate MF for fear of scratches. Car was cool to the touch in the shade as well. It was so sticky that I was thinking of having to go over the car with a QD (Meg's #135) to get rid of the smearing.....Now i know...
