What do you think of MOTHER's products?

Hey if it's good enough for Chip Foose, I'll try it - actually, I'm waiting on that "Pro" line and June is right around the corner.

Very good write up on B2B...I absolutely love the product. It brings faded back to new like nothing else I have used before. I have yet to ever "bugg it off", and it lasts for quite a while.

After our detailer buffs a car with a rotary he always finishes with Mothers pure caranuba. He usually buffs with Menzerna. His cars come out perfect.

I don't think it is a secret that in fact my favorite brand is mothers. Yes, there are many other very good product lines, but I still think the red bottles take top honors. However, the line is not perfect:

- California gold car wash is good, but there are at least 3 others OTC that perform better. Go boutique and falls quite behind.

- all wheel mist wheel cleaner is too weak.

- sealer and glaze (step 2) is a pain to remove.

- Protectant (vinyl) is just OK

The products I mentioned on the previous paragraph are just average. The good ones are:

- California gold cleaner wax. Probably the most balanced AIO available. Strong cleaners, very good looks and very good durability.

- Prewax cleaner. You don't need to be an autopian to get nice looking paint. It is amazing what a decent cleaner will do for paint.

- Powerpolish. Decent swirl remover and provides decent gloss. very versatile.

- FX synwax. One of the shiniest and most reflective LSPs available anywhere. Add the fact that has decent durability and is extremely easy to apply, and you got a winner.

- Chrome polish: Awesome for chrome, even better in glass.

- Mothers FX tire shine. If it lasted longer it would be a killer product.

- Reflections spray wax. The best booster wax in the market. Lasts longer than many LSPs (old thick version)

The best of the bunch:

- Reflections tire care: Probably the nicest smelling detailing product. Extremely easy to apply. Beautiful look.... if it lasted longer it would be perfect, but being so easy to apply it only takes a few minutes to get NEW tires on your ride.

- Reflections advanced car wax. When you have a product that almost removes by itself, looks very rich and glossy, lasts solid 10 weeks and smells snice... what not to like? Give it stronger cleaners and this is the perfect AIO. The look it provides is glossy and rich.

- Reflections top coat. No cleaners, nice smell, 10 weeks durabilitty, extremely easy to apply and remove... but those attributes matter little if the end result is not as good. For top coat, the look matches its attributes.

While some products might look better or last longer, the reason why I consider the reflections LSPs the best is BALANCE. For me, they strike the perfect combination of looks, application and durability.

I just bought a bottle of their cleaner wax. I got a little bottle of it with my clay bar kit and I used it on my 93 saturn, it does a good job of cleaning up the paint and leaving a good shine. Their clay bar is great, but I managed to drop mine so I have to buy new clay kit

Next time break the bar in half so you'll still have some good clay to use if you drop one.

+1

My two favorites of Mother's line, easy to use with good results.

If MOTHERS is such a Top Notch brand, and I know they make excellent products, Why is it not available at the Autopia car care store???? is it not good enough???

Each store can carry only so many lines. Also, Mothers is a (theoretically) "widely available from retail stores" type brand, meaning you should be able to pick some up locally and save on the S+H. With this in mind, unless you don't have someplace local selling it, it wouldn't make much sense to pay for S+H on top of the retail price, so it might not move very well from an online retailer.

(Just my thoughts. I don't know for sure the exact reasons. ;) )

Agreed, it is very flexible and doesn't dry up fast like most OTC stuff. I also like the Powerball mini, although I don't like that they don't sell replacement foam for it.

Idk if anyone has said this, but I saw a pack of two replacement foam balls for $20 at Oreillys.

Did you think Back to Black was a protectant? It is supposedly also useful to remove the white effect when using waxes. Has your use confirmed that?

Sorry Al...I missed your post.

Yes, I thought it was a dressing. While it has some protective properties, it's mainly a restorer. If B2B was a wax, it would be an Klasse AIO, with strong cleaners and moderate protection.

Multiple applications (even over time) will remove oxidation, old wax, contaminants, etc. from black textured plastic.

So if you have some black plastic that needs restoring, replace your regular dressing with B2B. Everytime the protection goes and needs re-applying you'll see the plastic gradually returning back to its original black colour - even when it's not dressed! It works on all coloured plastic, not just black. Best applied with a cotton terry towel and rubbed in well.

Once it's fully restored, you can return to your original dressing to maintain the finish.

Who said it's a top notch brand? They have some stuff that's very good, others that aren't worth the price of producing them, but Mother's is an OTC product widely available at retailers locally, although of course they don't carry each and every product in their lineup. I think the Reflections line is one of them that isn't carried at alot of places probably due to sales figures. However, when I was in need of some Reflections products that weren't on the shelf, the store had no problem ordering them for me and they arrived the very next day!

The Autopia store doesn't carry alot of stuff that's way better than Mother's, it's not about how good a product is, it's about what makes more sense from a business perspective to stock and sale. Long Haul Truck gloss for example, alot of people here including myself love the stuff, yet they are out of business so whats left is all there is. I just so happened to pick up the last 5 bottles today at my local Big Lots, hehe. But the point is that it's not economical to stock each and every product on the market, but that is not a reflection of how good or bad said product is.

oddly enough I just tossed a half-full bottle of truck gloss in the trash last night. QD'd a vehicle with it and 2 hrs later the garage still stunk with the essence of truck-stop $2 cologne.

Glad I only paid $2 for it at AZ on closeout.

I prefer Mothers (Synwax/Spray FX, Reflections and FX shine) over most megs stuff I have tried.

Anyway...
