Want to clean my leather.

Is it actually "softening" the coating or is what you're feeling just a bunch of oil? Remember, the top coat is more or less paint or dye, so how can this actually soften? Not like these products are penetrating this layer and softening the substrate?

What kind of leather is in my 2000 BMW 740i with comfort/sport seats? The color is sandbeige. Analine? Semi-Analine? Waxed Analine????

Not likely to be any of these. Looking at the photos they appear to be pigment coated leather (most auto interiors are this). Very important with this colour to clean regularly and keep them protected

Aniline leather is fairly rare in cars and generally does not come in these sorts of colours.

Hope this helps

Rick's leather was very cracked and dry, it's difficult to tell but there are so many cracks on the clean side it looks like embedded dirt.

So by looking at the lower “cleaned side do you think the "restoration cleaning" was well done?

Anyone can do better with a pH 7.7 Leather Prep follows with a pH 3.8 cleaner then pH 3.0 rinse; with help of a soft horsehair brush to agitate and extract with towel.

No excuses on the embedded dirt!

Get the samples and test it out!

You will be surprise!

Good follow up question. I am interested in mapping the experiences of many people who believe something that others says cannot happen.

I don't think I would refer to it as a "restoration cleaning". As for well done, I don't know. It is cleaner and softer.

What products are you refering to?

I am planning to dye the leather on another car where the coating is bad and was going to use Leatherique if you had any thoughts on that one.

Bunky, As i posted a few times on here, some of the "sit on the surface" products contain content which can soften the plastic coatings, which is why people say how nice it feels, or it feels right/great yada yada.

Why do you call it a plastic coating? Do you call the paint on your house walls a plastic coating? Do you call the paint on your car a plastic coating? It is a leather coating specifically designed for leather.

It depends what is in the product. I doubt most products actually soften or damage the coatings, but some probably could depending on the formulation. If it has a solvent in it, then you probably don't want to use it.:har:

Roger,

Maybe I spoke to soon on pricing. After speaking with David last week and a customer yesterday, maybe I am underpricing. The lady that called me yesterday was quoted $1500 to $1800 by another company to refinish her couch. She couldn't find his number, so she found and called me. I have no problem doing leather for those prices, if I could get two of those a week.
