Using a tragedy to try to ban certain firearms has been a tactic for a long time. I own more than one AR-15. I`m a civilian. My AR-15`s are some of the single best firearms I own, and I have many firearms of varying calibers, makes and models. Some will call these guns useless, I don`t "need one" and a bunch more hogwash. Fortunately, the opinions of others about my guns, whether they should be legal, etc is something I could care less about.

There is something called innocent until proven guilty that comes into play especially for a US citizen. I think they did the best the can and many killings are often preceded by people concerned. There are a lot of haters and people that fuel hate in this country.

If this was not that case we would be locking up millions of people because they will likely commit some crime. I find it interesting that some want to get rid of this rigt but protest when someone is restricting the right to bear arms.

Since we won the war to eliminate crime and drugs, I am sure we will win this one too.
 
When people say they want a ban on assault weapons they think they are banning fully automatic rifles from civilian hands. The problem is that these weapons are ALREADY BANNED! See National Firearms Act of 1934, Gun Control Act of 1968, and Firearm Ownership Protection Act of 1986. Civilians cannot obtain these weapons. They are for military and police use almost exclusively.
So what is this AR-15 if not an assault rifle? It is a standard rifle that LOOKS LIKE a fully automatic M-16, but does not function like one. It does the same thing as any other standard rifle. One trigger pull = one bang.
 
The weapons you actually want banned are ALREADY BANNED. The weapons used in these attacks are regular functioning rifles designed to look like their full auto, military counterparts.
So if the AR-15 isn`t more dangerous than any other standard rifle, then why is is the one being used in all of these shootings? Simple. It just happens to be the most popular rifle in the country. It`s the iPhone of rifles. It is an affordable, accurate rifle that is easy to personalize because everyone makes accessories for it. It isn`t any easier to acquire than other rifles, just more available.
To wrap this up, If you support banning fully automatic assault rifles, fine. You support a law that is already in place for good reason
 
What I heard new was that there was push for a "no fly no buy" policy.

If someone is on the no fly list, they should not be allowed to buy a gun. Supposedly there have been reports of this happening already. Of course, some do not want any more restrictions since it could lead to more later.

People don`t even know what they hate about guns. And they can`t explain why they want to ban AR15`s but not others. And it`s incredible how they`ve created this flawed perception of semi auto. People don`t even know what it means, but people that don`t like guns immediately equate it with mass murder, yet nobody wants to ban pistols. Seems to me that if you`re going to be so hell bent against something, you should be reasonably well informed about what it is first.

One day after 49 people were killed in the Orlando shooting, I traveled to Philadelphia to better understand the firepower of military-style assault weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.
But mostly, I was just terrified.
Many gun shops turned down our request to fire and discuss the AR-15, a style of semi-automatic rifle popular with mass killers such as San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook and similar in capabilities to the Sig Sauer MCX rifle used by Orlando terrorist Omar Mateen.

But Frank Stelmach of Double Tap Shooting Range and Gun Shop invited me, videographer Michael Sheridan and reporter Adam Shrier to come down. Stelmach is not like many gun lovers. He admires his weaponry, yes, and has difficulty explaining why law-abiding citizens need a gun that can empty a 40-round magazine in a few seconds. But he also hates the idea that “bad people” get a hold of a gun like this and use it to kill without difficulty.
“There should be expanded background checks — extending into your family, friends and associates,” he said. “And there should be a mental health screening. In Europe, if you want to buy a gun, you have to see a doctor (for a psychiatric examination) to see if something’s not right.”
Stelmach, who opened his shop six years ago after a career in law enforcement in Europe, even calls for government officials to take away guns from some owners — something very few gun advocates support.


He also said he never sells a gun to someone who “looks a little bit funny,” and he claimed he had prevented many guns from getting into the wrong hands because the would-be purchaser “asked stupid questions” like, “What happens to me if the gun is stolen?”
But very few gun shop owners do anything close to Stelmach’s sniff test — and he acknowledged how easy it is to find another gun shop owner willing to make the sale.
Very easy. In fact, as Philadelphia Daily News columnist Helen Ubinas showed today, you can get a military-styled weapon in seven minutes in this country.
Stelmach doesn’t think it should be easy. But he thinks it should be allowed.

Not in my hands. I’ve shot pistols before, but never something like an AR-15. Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).

The recoil bruised my shoulder. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.
Even in semi-automatic mode, it is very simple to squeeze off two dozen rounds before you even know what has happened. If modified to fully automatic mode, it doesn’t take any imagination to see dozens of bodies falling in front of your barrel.
All it takes is the will to do it.
Forty nine people can be gone in 60 seconds.
 
wow, if an AR-15 bruised their shoulder, my Mosin Nagant will rip their shoulder clean from their body. A gun would be a very dangerous thing in this person`s possession.

That was laughable. I remember taking my AR15 out for the first time, and I was shocked at how little recoil there really was. Such a piece of sensationalized bs.
 
Huh, most of the little kids I`ve watched shoot ARs thought the little bit of recoil made it more fun.

Per usual, talk about guns by people who don`t know from them is laughable, but it does prove that some people simply lack the...what? brainpower?....to be around guns. "Humbling"?!? Go play with a plasma cutter. Guns are just tools. Some of `em are interesting and/or fun (to some people), but they`re still just tools and there`s nothing all that amazing about their operation once you`re familiar with them.

Hey, I`m *assuming* that all of us *regardless* of our positions on Gun Control, have had The Discussion with our Loved Ones, right? About Situational Awareness? About appropriate responses to Emergent Situations? No more victims phoning home to say "I`m sitting here waiting to die!", right? Let`s make sure everybody knows what to do if the Wolf comes calling, namely be a Sheepdog, not a Sheep. Even Assault Rifles need to be reloaded. Any gun might malfunction. Any shooter might miss. Don`t give up. Don`t go down easy.
 
I read the actual weapon was a Sig Sauer MCX Semi-Automatic. I have no idea about the difference.
 
I`m not up on this rifle but I think it came to market as a 300 BlackOut caliber. Of course a 300 BlackOut, 7.62 X 39 or 5.56 mm/.223 only requires a barrel, bolt carrier group and magazine swap to run any of the 3 calibers (5.56 mm, .223 being similar). In essence, it`s an AR15 that could run anyone of these rounds with a little swapping of parts. At the end of the day any AR will do this but it`s a way for SIG to get another way to market a modern sporting rifle.
 
I can understand how anyone named Gersh Kuntzman could have a problem even holding a rifle for probably the first time in his protected life... :)

The US military has been discussing for many years to change the NATO standard .223 round to a different size because the bullet tumbles instead of spiraling. The tumbling causes more damage to human flesh. This was discussed while I was in the Army. My point was "so what" aren`t we supposed to cause as much damage to the enemy as possible. They were looking for a more humane way of killing. Of course I also was a fan of the .45 because of the knockdown power vs. a more accurate 9mm. I close quarters I prefer knockdown to accuracy. We had some match grade .45s and they were very accurate. My personal .45 was so old it still had wood grips. Don`t ban guns, just ban the sale of ammunition. Lol. Living in S. GA darn near everyone has a rifle, shotgun, and several handguns. The biggest crime reported around here is the theft of large amounts of guns. Buy a trigger lock or put your guns in a lockbox. Don`t let people steal your guns and use them in a criminal manner. If you do then you are not a responsible gun owner. IMHO.

Yes, the M16 was developed to inflict damage on purpose, and it worked very well in its range..
And I also had a swell .45 and knew too, it was developed during WWII to knock down the enemy when the .38 caliber handgun had no effect on them...

And as far as banning ammo, ODumma has been working at restricting the sale of Brass for awhile now.. Hmmm, wonder why...

Unless you can properly reload the gun in which your attempting to ban... you have absolutely no right to open your mouth. The people who do this are the same people who text and drive... oh yeah operating 4000 pounds of rolling mass at 60 mph distracted is fine but owning an 8 pound rifle that fires 6 rounds of 1 gram projectiles is horrible.

Pathetic...
