Great thread, with some great pics.

In fact, this thread is just too good to die just yet!

I'm up for seeing more combos too.

Thanks Scott. It means a lot to me when I get compliments from professionals.

I've seen your work, and it's funny to even think I would catch your eye with some of my work, considering I've only been detailing for less than a year. The right products and process produce beautiful results! :xyxthumbs

Paul-you are absolutely right. It isn't the years of experience that really makes the difference, it is chosing the correct products and procedures required to do the job.

That was all done by hand too...so anyone who thinks great reflections and glossy paint requires use of a PC or rotary--think again.

But now I have my PC and will probably never polish by hand again. I do still apply paste waxes by hand though. Other than that everything is done by PC.

Agreed. Up until April of this year, I did everything by hand as well. Now I have a PC and am seriously comtemplating purchasing a Cyclo.

Souveran on well polished black = Deep & Wet!

Cheers,

Here's my $.02 worth on this subject. There are some cars which are going to look wetter than others, even if the color is the same and the sealants, waxes, and techniques are the same. What's the biggest difference? The prep work that was done to the vehicle before it was painted. What's the difference between a $500 paint job and a $12,000 paint job? It's not the materials, because most of those are pretty much the same. On a really good paint job they will spend a lot of time sanding every square inch of the sheet metal smooth. Then they will start applying coats of primer and sanding those progressively smoother also. The end result is you have a surface which is perfectly smooth before they ever start applying paint.

I look at the sheet metal on my vehicle and I see orange peel. This doesn't mean I can't make it look good, it just means I'll never achieve the look that can be obtained with a really good custom paint job, or even most production german vehicles.

Orange peel is not in the sheet metal. it's in the clear coat.
