Interesting find on the Meguiars forum (not sure if this is a repost):

Wow such pretty Zaino swirls.

I find it amazing that so many Zaino users do not understand that Zaino does nothing to get rid of swirls.

I've tried telling my ex that who also has a black C5 and uses Z religiously. She has seen what NXT does to my paint but for some reason she doesn't want to try it out. :nixweiss :nixweiss

Actually, here at Autopia, most Zaino users do know that. They use all sorts of other swirls removers and polishes before applying Zaino. It's just the non-Autopian Zaino users that don't always grasp that point.

I've seen that picture at MOL. I can understand that Mike P will favor Meguiar's products but this is a bit misleading IMO.

I think all (or most) of us know that Zaino is only a protectant. But to anyone new it basically says that Zaino = swirls.

I'm amazed someone would put 12 layers of Zaino over such a poorly prepped surface.

I'm amazed that somebody would spend that much money for a wax and apply 12 layers when 1 layer of NXT looks pretty darn good with the same prep.:D

Guess which lasts longer. Amazing what some oil and filler can do, isn't it?

I've never used Zaino, but it looks too complicated for me. Simplicity and "cheap" is the name of the game. I guess the hype works :nixweiss

I never got that kind of filling with NXT. That is impressive. So, did the NXT completely wipe out those 12 layers? It might not last as long, but hey, they did 12 layers of Zaino.

Agreed. It looks like he read the webpage, did a dawn wash (possible clay) and just Z'd it.

Not to mention, that instance is comparing the owner of the car to Mike as well. I'm sure Mike's techniques and knowledge can make a lot of cars look amazing with whatever product you put in his hand.

Ditto!!

Double Ditto!!!

Zaino is NOT a wax!! AFAIK, it never claimed to be either. It's a polymer sealant. With Zaino it's 9/10ths prep. Doesn't NXT contain fillers?? Did it actually "remove" that much swirling, or was it more "filling" than "removing"??

I'm sure the NXT line are good products. I've never used a Meguiar's product I was unsatisfied with, but IMHO this was an UNscientific comparison.

Wax vs Sealant = Apple vs Orange

Yep, realistically, and I only know what I read about either product, I think you hit the nail on the head :xyxthumbs

Well according to Mike in the thread over at MOL, he said that he didn't apply the product. He said the fourm members did the application AND removal. He said he didn't even examine the results until long after everyone had, and formed their own opinions

To Mike's credit he was trying to be fair, but it was still an apple vs orange comparison.

It's a tough call. They both are sealants. One has filler while the other doesn't. One strives to darken the paint while the other aims at clarity and reflectivity. So, on an unprepped surface, NXT knocks Zaino out, BUT on a prepped one it is up to preference.

They probably followed the Zaino directions. They reccomend using Z-5 until the swirls are gone. The only prep mention is a Dawn Wash and clay bar usage.

Only experienced detailers and Zaino users know enought to polish the paint to remove swirls before any Zaino touches the surface.
