Second Thoughts On Clearkote Products

I have a few clearkote products heading my way for testing. Am I skeptical? Yes.

Has anyone seen a MSDS on any of these products?

Do anyone know about if and how much silicone/solvents/other stuff these products contain?

I have seen MSDS on lots of other products we use around here, but I havent seen or heard of one on any of the CK products.

After I have been able to play with the products, I will weigh in on how I feel they perform.

Hey!

As to this Clearkote issue, I think that it is all a huge misunderstanding!! Scott has always been very honest and helpful to me and many others on this site. I do not think he intentionally tried to mislead or misrepresent anything. It is a matter of circumstance.

I would love to try Clearkote but obtaining it here in Canada is just too expensive!! So, I will not be able to help that discussion at all!! :(

This is a general comment that has nothing to do about Clearkote or the previous posts! ----- It can be frustrating here sometimes as we get people who argue until they are blue in the face about a product or device that they only started using last year etc... . This attitude frustrates many as there are very many here who have used products/devices for 10 years or longer and have much more experience with it. Moreover, many times a Noob gets shunned because he/she is a Noob. No one takes the time to realize that many of these people may be new to Autopia but perhaps has several years of experience in detailing! More than many here!! Correct me if I am wrong, but Autopia is not an elite board for only a few members. It is a board to be shared by everyone that has a passion for detailing. As such, I have talked with a lot of great people. It is these people that I have grown to trust!

Now, back to the Clearkote issue...if Scott would not have tried this product, many of us would never have known that it even existed. Moreover, just because some people have problems with one product and others do not, does not make the product bad or the person dishonest. There are many factors that affect the results. For example, David just said that #20 "bites", yet I have NEVER had a problem with the product in over 12 years!! Does that mean that I am going to disbelieve David? No, of course not! He has his opinions based on his results and so do I!! Just because mine do not agree with his on this subject does not make me believe that he had other motives for his comments!!

Sorry for the rant! Furthermore, maybe it was not my place to comment on this, so flame if you want. I am only trying to help!

I got the package from Cleakote and recieved 4 bottles of wax and 4 of the glaze along with 1 gallon concentrate QS. Price was high but I figure the 8 bottles of prodct to go al long long way. Have you seen VM is like water oil. Could be spread with great ease. Splatters like crazy though.

I *really* miss the old days of solid debates, info, etc. :(

I'm guessing you don't mean the threads that questioned your intellegence if you didn't use Zainos! :lol (not you personally, Steve, just non Zaino users in general). Glad that flamed out (literally) quickly.

Debate is healthy for the board. We all have different ideas of what the perfect finish is.

If we're all gonna choose to agree on a product that "works for all autopians", let's pick the cheapest one! We'd all save a lot of $$$! :D

That will never happen!

Actually, if it did, most of us would no longer visit this site. What would be the point? :p

Clearkote Orders

I spoke with a lady at Clearkote at 9:20 AM EST. She said that my orders (confirmed 2/17 and 2/27) were shipped on the same day - February 25 (?!!).

Because theywere "boxed separately" I'm being charged $8.00 shipping for each box. The lady said that if they were in the same box the total shipping would have been $8.00 instead of $16.00!

I'd like to have their shipping franchise.

Regarding shipping charges note what Autopia charges using USPS: $3.85 for the first pound and $1.25 for each additional pound (and, I assume, or fraction thereof.)

First I would like to say thank you to Scott for introducing me to ClearKote prodcuts as they are now a standard with my detailing company.

Everything seperates over time, so as someone else said before, just shake the bottle. I have had no problems with the VM. Yes I use it and I get no kick backs from clearkote. I works very well for a mobile detailer and results are great.

It seems as if some of us are bashing a company before all testing is done.

If you have never tried a product then you really can't say anything bad about the product. Everyone has there own opinion on what they like and dislike.

For me personally I just love how we are all talking about something else other then zaino.

IMO clearkote makes a great product.

There's an interesting thread over at Detail City about Clearkote and a distributor...

Apparently some guy was praising the products and convincing others to buy them and not disclosing the fact that he was profiting from it all.

EDIT: attempting to locate thread....but i'm an idiot

I bought VM and MW a few weeks ago. till now i have not had the time to use it. what is the general concensus on whether it is better for light or dark colors. i've got a satin silver civic. any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

This one? It doesnt go into much detail about the person and how ClearKote is involved.

Well, I don't think Everett approves of that. He is a member of this board, but he won't post because he doesn't want to affect the integrity of this board. He likes to read the comments so he knows what people are saying, both good and bad in an effort to continually refine his business and products.

I would agree that someone should be upfront if they are a distributer of any product if they are going to recommend it.

OK guys here's the deal I posted this over on the other board and it was deleted along with my account.

I came across MW just as you all did, from the website and recommendations here.

I called Mr. Glass and we found out that were both worked (he retired) from the same airline. I'm still a full time pilot for that airline today. As I'm based in Houston (not far from Mooseland) we met and became friends.

I offered to buy a case of MW, VM etc and keep it in my garage for folks in my area that wanted it locally. I guess you could call that a distributor but I would call it doing him a favor. My neigbors use the stuff and one local detailer. Not exactly a booming business. More like a group purchase.

The amount of money I have made from the sale of these products would not amount to much at all. You could buy a few cups of coffee at Starbucks with my 'profits'

Now, if you read my posts, I also use 3M products, Blackfire and a few others. I'm a happy 3M customer, a happy MW customer and I certainly recommend to anyone what works well for me.

Hopefully you understand my relationship and it's certainly not profit motivated. I would need to sell thousands of bottles of wax, to consider it a money making deal. I have sold less than a dozen in about 3 months.

Does that make me a distributor, I think not. Does it make me a fan, you bet.

You now know the story.

COEX-PILOT-thanks for the clarification.

They deleted your post? Based on a quick overview of the site, I am not suprised. It seems to mostly exist to push the Platinum line.

This should be no surprise, after all that forum belongs to 4-Star, the makers of Platinum products. That's why they don't mind people talk about other products but they don't realy like it to be used for other makers publicity. Business is business.

At least they're diversifying now: their latest kick is to have their puppets reply to every question with "Have you tried Poorboys?"

They might as well be asking if we'd like fries with that?:angry
