I find Mothers clay to be too fine. I just don't see much improvement from using it.

After a little thought I think it's like that in purpose. It's safer in that it will not mar the paint as easily as a more aggressive clay. If someone inexperienced goes to the store and picks it up they probably won't know the proper way to use clay and cause damage.

I've tried the black magic years ago, and yes it does sling. Smells good though.

I noticed this when I first got it, was going to put it aside and forget about it. Started playing with it, and if you put it on an applicator and apply it that way there is no sling off and has durability of about 2 weeks provided there is little to no rain. Worked equally as good applied the same way to the wheel-wells. Not my go-to product, but atleast I can use it enough to get my money's work.
