There are several different Royal Velvet and a few Charisma towels here.

I have never bought RV or charisma towels, so those might not be killer deals. I thought I'd post so those of you who do purchase them could have at it.

The Egyptian Cotton looks soft... anyone ever used it?

Josiah

thx buddy....i only see the pink Charismas though....should only use white to detail...but im gonna keep looking on that sitte....they have 4 charisamas for $40,....you cant beat that....but the reason is..nobody gets pink i think.......:D im gonna go back and check out the RV's...even though i dont use them......thx though

I got some Charisma bath towels from my local Ross store for about $6-7 each. They also had some really nice Wamsutta towels I think may have been even softer than the Charisma's, but it was close.

Here's an online source (sorry Short Cut, had to ;)). Click pic for info

OK I think darbh is the resident towel expert.

I will post again that you can often found some good towel deals in your local Ross/TJMax.

I have brought Chrisma/RV and Wamsutta (the best 100% Supima Cotton towels I have) for $4.99-$5.99. They could be marked irregular but you should be able to feel which towel is good and which is not.

My experience is that:

- Different color of the same towel feels different. White color usually does NOT feel the smoothest compared to other color. No Idea why.

- Let your hands be the judge when you buy towels. I passed on a few Charisma at $5 because there were some Wamsutta 100% Supima Cotton towels next to it for $5.99 that feels better than the Charisma. They are the best towel I got.

(Of course I haven't try them all)

Hey gti:

Great point with the colors! I remember I was initially disappointed with the first Charisma towels I picked up, but was much more pleased when I checked out the other colors and found plusher ones. I could definitely see a lot of people going for those Wamsutta ones I saw. I think they were supima cotton?

:up but it seems both the CH nad CH select are out of stock....cant even get 1 now....tell me more about the wamsutta that you and gti like so much...thx.........

and BTW....where did the rule about only white come in with towels...i know the Mf';s i have are blue...green...yellow...etc....so the dye cant be the bad thing...is there any proven reason not to get the other colors besides white....(other than u get to see ex=actly what your wiping coming off better with the light colors)...

Yeah... the Wamsutta in Ross are 100% Supima Cotton.

Charisma is Supima. RV is not I believe.

Supima is the highest grade cotton available.

I think I will never buy towel online. I like to feel it before buying it since they all vary in quality.

Hey FLONI:

You nailed it right on the head. The reason I personally prefer using light colored towels is to see if I have gotten anything on it that I may be about to touch to the paint. This is why I have a yellow absorber, light colored MF's and <em class='bbc'>wish[/i] MT's came in lighter colors.

The Wamsutta towel just felt way softer to me. It seemed plusher, each little loop had more give, so it seems it would be more gentle. So maybe use the Charisma for buffing stickier things off and the Wamsutta for easy buffing?

By the way, I thought only the Charisma Selects were 100% supima cotton. I could be wrong though.

With the large MF's at topoftheline.com, I am forgetting the expensive cotton towels and going with MF's when I get a chance to buy them.

Any reason to have cotton towels when you can have MF?

Josiah

i think the reason Z users use the towels is that sal has said in his literature that the MF's are too small to get all the z off....but now.......we have the huge Mf.....thats a really good point dood....i gotta check that out......where's DK??:p:up ...

ps.....are the ones at topoftheline the same as the ones form CMA...the big huge Mf's i mean....

YO Steve can answer most of your questions about MF towels....

I still have a problem wtih quality. If you can find a consistant brand that does not lint or scratch go for it. If you get the big ones, they will work fine for removing zaino. I like them a lot. Quality control doesn't seem to be up to par with them yet though in my opinion, so I still recommend cannon towels, my favorite being charismas!

thx for those coupons buddy....i couldnt fine any white charismas there so ill use it for sumthin else....thx though much appreciated:up .........

neo...same to u buddy...thx for the link...charismas irreg...$6.50 a piece.....i got 5...thx dood...

puter....nah dood...both the charisma and ch selct are 100 pims baby....i checked it out when i first came to autopia...i worte them a mail back then to ask....that was one of the first purchases i made relating to things recommended by autopians.....thx guys....

Hi Josiah

Welcome. Thanks for your efforts. Your heart is in the right place.

The Charismas on the subject site are priced about the same as normally-priced irregulars on the fieldcrest outlet site. But, with the extra discount available on the outlet site (for purchases of $50 or more), the outlet price is better. The Royal Velvet price on the outlet is much better.

I have been testing the Charisma vs the Charisma Select vs three VERY high end towels. I am currently recommending the Selects ($14 on the outlet, when they have them). The very high end towels I am testing are great but expensive ($40 or so).

Until I find a source of seconds for the very high end towels, I recommend the Selects. They are very soft and very plush. The extra $4 a towel is worth it and, heck, the towels last a good lenght of time, so over time the extra four dollars is not so much. There is no comparison between the Selects and the Royal Velvet.

I recently ordered several Charissimas from the Cannon/Fieldcrest outlet and also from Linensource.

The Charissimas from the Cannon/Fieldcrest outlet were "irregulars", but I could not find anything wrong with them. I inspected them carefully, and could find no defects.

Five of the six Charissimas from Linensource also had no defects. One had a very noticable defect (the middle of the towel had a 1/8 in or so section with no loops, just backing- in other words, a line was running through the center of the towel)

Now I am wondering: are these towels really irregular? I can't imagine that it is terribly diffuclt to make towels. There can't be too many irregulars in a given production run.

My suspicion is that we are usually getting perfect towels at irregular prices. I can think of several reasons for this. 1) A towel is made of a very cheap material- cotton thread. there is probably something like $1.00 or $2.00 worth of material in a given bath towel. The towels are made on macine mills. The amortized cost of the machine, per towel, is probably something like $1.50. These numbers are just estimates- I know nothing about manufacturing- actually, my numbers may well be too high. Labor, utilities, administrative costs, rent for the warehouse, etc- add another $1.00 to $2.00. Our total production cost is now $3.50-$5.50. The "irregular" towels sell for $9.99. That price still yields a very healthy profit per towel.

There are certain people (myself included) who simply will not pay the full retail price for the Charissimas. They will buy something else instead. Actually, I would pay retail for car towels, but I would not for bath towels- I value my paint more than my own skin. :) Once I discovered the outlet, however, I did order several Charissimas to use as bath towles. Therefore, by offering "irregular" Charissimas, they have captured sales that they would not otherwise have had. It's not like they "lost out" on the retail price- I would not have paid it; I would have bought a cheaper towel from someone else instead. But by offering towels as "irregulars", they are capturing my business.

If a production run of towels does not result in a sufficient number of irregulars to satisfy demand, therefore, it makes perfect sense for Cannon/Fieldcrest to sell regular, perfect towels as irregulars. They are still turning a profit, and are gaining customers like me who will only buy irregulars.

besides doing my taxes couldnt you please work on the defecit....for our kids sake....you should have a grip on it in about 1/2 hr......i had sparks comin outta my head trying to really understand what you said....and that by no means is a dis to you...it means im a dope....you are a genius dood...i mean dude......:D

dude - not a bad speculation, it could well be true. BTW, I think the pure manufacturing costs of a towel are much lower than your numbers.

I was pleased to see that your transformation from homo sapien to homo autopian is coming along well. This was obvious from your statement: "I would pay retail for car towels, but I would not for bath towels- I value my paint more than my own skin." Clearly, if it would mean that we could save money to buy a better MF towel or a Charisma Select, be would dry our bodies with burlap -- skin repairs its swirls on its own, so what's the big deal?
