NEW!!!! Menzerna FG400

I am thinking about doing M105 vs. FG400 and perhaps a separate, all-inclusive M101 thread. There is just so much coming out now that is just awesome. It is a great time to be a detailer.

Be nice to see some real world comparisons Todd, what finishes down jet black paint best perhaps hmmm. And yes it is tough to keep up with all the new stuff, got my FG400 yesterday will be testing this week.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

I received the FG400 yesterday and gave a once-around-the-block today.

On the paint I was doing I really couldn't tell about the cutting ability.
I can say "It is SO MUCH neater and cleaner to work with than M105!"
If it cuts like M105 I'm hooked...The ONLY downside is the price $$$!

wish i would have ordered this instead of the blackfire src it wont cut the black car i am working on i dont know if it would cut it ether starting to think hmm viper has curse

Sorry your preliminary test was inconclusive. Hopefully you'll be able to give it another go shortly and update your review. Thanks in advance.

Sorry last week was CRAZY with the phones early in the week and it backed me up on getting the comparison done. IME, in general, FG cuts MORE than M105, although the working cycle is longer, so it comes pretty close to a wash.

Interesting Merlin, on the AG forum luv-a-shine just did a review where he found it to dust as much as M105. Hmmm, I'm seen M105 dust to beat the band and I've also used it and with no dusting at all. Hopefully those more knowledgeable will weigh in but I'm thinking it's the paint. Different paints simply react differently. Personally I don't really mind the dusting as long as the compound does it's job and M105 never seems to disappoint.

Sometimes its not the paint but also the products on top of the paint. The abrasives in these polishes are so fine that any thing that could cause them clump together will increase dusting. It doesn't take much.

I know ya'll will think this is bass ackwards, but stay with here - I do a lot of cars with oxidation and dust is a given. A buddy told me to use KAIO first, then go to the compound/polish. I was a bit leery, but I tried it and I swear it works!

I use KAIO first all the time and still get dusting from M105. I don't mind just sayn...

Ditto on the dust, believe for me when I used it I foolishly had 105 + OJ pad beforehand.

Working time on it is really nice, just wish I had a hammered car to work on it for awhile.

Mike Phillips did a review of FG400 on a 57 Chevy and reported no dusting. However, He also cleaned the pad after every panel. Maybe that's the key. I plan on ordering this product to give it a spin.

Dusting is more with M105 then FG400. FG400 is fairly low-dust. Great product.

You should clean your pad often with any product for the best results!

I clean the pad at least once between each panel with a Foam Pad Conditioning Brush.

IMHO FG400 dusts less them M101 and MUCH less than M105

got a deal on some older fg500 and loved it. easy so i now have some 400 and cant wait for a proper car. i have set my 105 aside and been using 101 and 100. why hassle with dust and all. these new compounds are a godsend.

I'm using fg400 with a hybrid foam/wool pad on a Flex 3403 on frosted headlights and can do them fast - like 4 -5 passes and I'm done - great stuff...
the left part of the light on ONE pass:

and 3-4 passes and finished:
