Miracle turnarounds in no time

Ahhh, good ol Justin. I remember a little conversation we had on AG about him finishing LSP ready using just PG.

Yeah but that's cause his technique is better than ours.;):chuckle: :spit:

Incorporating video's to your thread can help tell the tale of the true condition of the paint, although it's kind of hard to do the job justice sometimes that way.

This is totally true, although a procedure like this would really only highlight how long it takes rather than be a show of the quality of the work in question.

I think a point that hasn't been made yet is that the true judge of the quality of the work someone produces is in the finished result, not how long it takes to get there.

Last week I spent close to 40 hours, that's right, 40 hours, simply polishing a black Mercedez. That sounds absolutely insane, until you take some things into account. It was a ceramic cleared car, it was black, it was a S65 to boot. So not only was it like polishing concrete, but it was really messed up concrete on a car that cost as much as some homes. It takes time to make things perfect, and even more time when the car itself fights you.

So simply looking at the finished product and the time it takes to get there isn't a fair judge of ability or quality...they are just parts of the puzzle.

At the end of the day if you are happy with what you churned out, and your customer is happy, that is seriously all that matters.

The s65 is a sweet ride Jonathan for sure, glad you took the time to make it right.

I guess the important non factor involved in this thread is if the detailer actually cares what the majority thinks. Sure there are some threads that come to mind which raise a flag, well many actually. Some of us are here because we love what we do and want to share, I try to take video footage of everything lately and try to grab the sun in each photo, many of our work is done with defect intensifiers, as opposed to oily fillers. We all know what waxes have and polishes have a tendency to hide things for a period of time, and use your best judgement when viewing.

The only thing this thread is going to change is the number used when these phonies put their work on display. I for one don't really care to dig too deep into the matter, any true professional should have the right to feel a little uneasy to say the least while knowing there are some out there that claim to do the same type processed and grueling work we all know it takes to get a perfect finish. I am glad Grouse mentioned the aid of defect hiding potential in polishes, because I firmly believe that's the result at least a few members are getting, take a look at some pictures posted, some guys actually have pics posted of themselves displaying improper (hologram inducing) polishing techniques, I mean we all know what happens when we hold a rotary at a sharp angle not allowing the pad to lay flat on the surface (hack city) but there are a few polishes that make that type work if used properly(unproperly) look fantastic, just look at the afters.

So what's worse? A typical hack using bs methods and products unknowingly leaving nasty results, or a somewhat knowledgeable detailer that doesn't follow the natural laws of chemistry and product how to's and taking pics like it's best in class work being done?

It's a hell of a lot easier to feel for the unknowing hacks than it is the pretenders imo, at least we all know where they stand.

Sorry, accidentally abanded my own thread. And I'm glad most peope recognize that despite the claims of a few, you aren't going to turn a black hammered car into perfection in 3 hours. Certainly not going to single any threads out, cause that isn't going to do anyone any good, but it's been a long-time trend of people to underplay how much time it really took them to resore a given car. Scratch removal takes time. Sure, some are faster and more proficient than others, but...

Phew, I thought I took a long time because I wasn't doing something right. Everytime I see people here having perfect finishes in small amounts of time I often wish I could do that. I can spend hours with a PC and my car just looks better than most on the road and still not quite what I would like it to be.
