meguiar's #16 alternative

cool. i'm not in it for the longevity. i will be putting it on top of my nxt. i apply that nxt like crazy anyway. it's so easy to do, and looks so good that i enjoy it. :)

so once i put it on, and i wanted to put another layer of nxt on, could i? or should i strip everything and start over?

excellent. anyone see any advantages to putting 26 or s100 over the nxt? don't know if it's going to be something my eye and wallet will be pleased i did or not...

I think you probably will be. The NXT has an odd shine thats not quite polymer and not quite carnuaba, great looking but weird. The Wax isn't going to be as reflective but it will be wetter and deeper.

that's what i'm going for. i heard colorx and then nxt over it was a good combo too, but recently (when i used DACP) i used dawn to remove the old stuff (does this actually remove everything?). when i reapplied the tech-wax, i left the colorx step out. i couldn't tell a single difference without the colorx. i seem to think the dawn didn't really remove everything... either that, or the colorx did me no good?

Don't wash with Dawn unless you are stripping the wax to repaint it or use Zaino. DACP or ColorX will remove any old wax.

i see. i will probably not worry with colorx anymore. i think the dacp and the #9 did about all there is to do (at least that the colorx can do). i will try the $26. i'm pretty sure i can pick that up at a local autozone. i've also been looking for some wax to put on the wheels, and i think i've heard this works.

#26 imo :down

You really should try and call around to see if someone carries #16 in your town. You would be amazed at the results. I use this instead of s100, and am enjoying the results.

In your steps IMHO the ColorX would replace the #9, using the #9 and then the ColorX is really redundant.

Call around and ask for the #16, I've seen it in stores a couple places.

If you get the #26 be sure to get the paste, in my experience liquid waxes have too many solvents to be proper toppers.

what stores have you found #16 in?

Couldn't find it in any of the local auto parts stores. To my surprise, I found #16 in a boat supply store. It was like finding gold. I guess #16 is durable enough to go on a boat.

I had some #26 liquid from last year and picked up some #16 a few months ago and side by side on a dark green car the #16 is far slicker with a deeper shine. Both were applied over NXT.

Perhaps it was more because one was a liquid and one a paste that is more worked into the paint when applying.
