:LOLOL @ what some people think of me

Scott, you are the King of detailers. Your work is outstanding, everybody knows that. If you say a product is good , it is good. I dont think you ever mention a product that was bad. Some people are jealous of your popularity. Consider the source.

Scott...

Theres one thing I've learned over the years on these forums, that is if people are talking trash when you're not around it means you're doing something right. I've been bad mouthed, called a hack, a product whore, etc, etc.... most of the time coming from people who have NEVER seen my work in person... NEVER contributed information of their own... NEVER had positive feedback on work from another member.

All that matters is that YOU know your work is good, the vast majority of us accept it as well, and thats it.

To quote Dave Chappelle as R-Kelly:

Haters gotta hate, lovers gotta love...

I don't even want none of the above....

I wanna piss on you... yes I do

There is a difference, Zane. When I have something to say, I do it here, right out in the open. I don't post it on a board that obviously isn't going to allow me to register and read what is being said. I'm not talking about anyone behind their backs.

Should I repeat myself?

The constant discussion about it is bordering on the definition of insanity. There is no positive outcome for either side to continue on in this manner. It just ruins the enjoyment of the hobby and detracts why we're all here.

And in following my own advice, I'm done.

I would never say anything bad about the man or the process because your work is great. BUT,I will say your pictures are (mostly) overexposed terribly. Its unfortunate that photography is a big part of "internet" detailing.

Got any suggestions when shooting black cars in the full sun on concrete? I'm already underexposing shots 1-2 stops and it doesn't seem to help.

What camera are you using?

Nikon N60 35mm. I was using Kodak's High Def 400 ASA but the constrast was even worse. It is better with Kodak Gold 200 ASA. The big problem is shooting cars in the full sun on concrete. I don't have much say in where the car is parked when taking pictures either. Shooting black cars, the background washes out (although I have seen others post pics where the background is completely blown out and indistinguishable and no one says squat) or when shooting white cars, the paint is washed out and doesn't show gloss. I've played around with exposure settings but it doesn't help a whole lot. Funny thing is, my old fully manual Minolta compensated for high contrast shots a lot better.

When I get situations where the constast isn't so extreme, the shots come out a lot better, like this one.

Scott.. those who can't do.. criticize.

Have you tried a 100 speed film?

Pehaps you solution would be to carry two cameras.. one with 400 asa film, the other with 200.

Keep in mind DC has a number of ex-Autopians who have been banned for one reason or another from Autopia and obviously have an ax to grind. With all that is going on in the world today it really does surprise me that someone can manage to get worked up over what wax someone else is using, supporting, choosing or not choosing to recommend to others. Geez some people really need to wake up and look around, there are far more important things going on to get worked up about....

The atmosphere over there is SO negative. All they do is hate on other people, detailing forums, and products. The only positive posts on there are about Zaino. They tout themselves as the only "honest" forum on the internet. It's really terrible. I avoid that place like the plague.

Scary part about it is I got an IM this morning and apparently it's now "WAR" that has been started by the Mayor here. That's just absurd.

While I get humor out of this tread, I think nothing good will come from it (except maybe a little about the photography). This thread is likely to only make things worse as it is obvious that people browse both forums and their opinions carry from one to the other.

I'm just waiting on someone to make a thread asking for a forum truce, due to this "war" that is supposedly going on.

I got an e-mail from someone who is a member both here and at the Detailersclub that he cut and pasted from Detailersclub, aka the Zaino board:

==================

Too funny! I use Optimum and Clearkote products far more than Ultima, yet somehow I am now the official Ultima product shill? Even better how this is done on a board you have to register to read, yet I know I am not welcome to register.

Oh yeah, you hear wrong. 7 mb/sec connection.

Sorry I don't think Zaino is the second coming, sad that some can't deal with an honest opinion.

Do you honestly think that everyone is going to like you? If you do, your foolish in thinking so... If you don't, then why stir the pot?

He's not taling about whether everybody should like him or not, becuase he know that's not true, what he's talking about is backstabbers and people that don't know his or anybody's work, and start to critizice just because he doesn't use a product that everybody in that forum believes it to be the best.

Back to the "photography"part of this thread...I had no idea you were using a N60 Film camera.. If you are using the kit lens that came with it, thats part of the problem.

There is a Sunny 16 Rule that helps on the bright days...

The basic exposure for an average scene taken on a bright, sunny day is f/16 at a shutter speed equivalent to one over the ISO setting—that is, f/16 at 1/100 sec at ISO 100. You should put the camera on the AV mode(aperture priority) and try f16 - f22. Thats should help with the blown highlights.
