Little more info on Tropi-Care

JayC, thanks for your thoughts. What is your opinion about durability? I want to thank you for your review. Who knows, I may give Tropicare a try.

Im only about 10 days in so at this point it's hard to say. So far it looks just like it did the day I applied it. I've been through a couple of rain storms and a washing and everything is still well.

I should also mention in this thread (I did so elsewhere already) that I have played around with topping TC with S100 and didn't really notice much of a difference. I did notice that the S100 area I topped seemed to bead a little better than the TC only side but other than that, I could see no difference in appearance.

Guess I must just be a "liar"....

Maybe you folks should consider that the Porsche 968 has a non-clear coat finish as opposed to what most of you are likely to have tried it on.

Additionally, it was not applied over the top of Zaino; the Zaino was removed with dawn washed and water/alcohol mix.

Well it was my post that first used the word "liar" BUT if everyone re-reads that post they will see that I said that I am NOT calling Andy "a liar". Perhaps I needed to be a bit clearer so here goes.

I in no way meant to call Andy or anyone a "liar". I have been posting on Autopia and other detailing forums for some time now and I believe most know me as level headed and I don't believe I have ever called anyone a "liar" or any other name for that matter.

So Andy if my post offended you I am sorry, not my intention. In fact I said I myself may like to try Tropi-Care in the future. Also since you did not explain your situation fully nor tell us folks that your Porsche was a single stage paint we then would have no idea. Just as we had no idea how it was applied or over what it was applied so basically what we have here is a lack of communication;)

Please stick around as you will find this a helpful bunch of detailing addicts:D

Okay, since Dana (aka dboat) has moved, I will have to e-mail him. Why didn't you ask me about it when I was there? I would have been more than happy to have looked at your car if you could have brought it by.

What makes me suspicious though is that you are raving about a new product and bashing another one. If the product is as good as you say, it should be able to stand on its own merit without you having to rip into other products. If you had just mentioned how well this product has worked for you and not gone off on a carnauba rant, your post would have been recieved a lot differently.

I have never, ever seen anything like you are talking about. The only thing I can think is you put too much product on and didn't wipe off all the excess. I really don't think the fault is in the product itself, but in the application.

BTW, I did this Porsche 944 Turbo in August. Black, single stage orginal paint. On a Porsche. So yes, I do have experience with single stage black paint. Meguiars Swirl Free Polish, Clearkote's Vanilla Moose and non bleeding S100. ;)

Exactly.

First, let me just say, My Apologies on this whole thread.

My intent was never to start all this crap. I read these posts that are out here and this really is one of the only times that I had first hand relative information to help answers someone else’s question about a product.

I am a detail NUT…ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you I do not drive my autos as much as I polish them. I spend countless hours getting my car/truck ready to show and am to the point of being obsessed with it.

Heck, I have 6 different paint brushes to get all the cracks and crevices in the vehicles clean. I had to add a bookshelf unit to my garage to hold all of my detailing stuff including polishes by the gallon, two buffers and countless supplies.

I even bought an air compressor for the single purpose of drying my cars.

Having said all of that, I really just wanted to tell people that I found a product that worked great for me.

Maybe I had a “flukeâ€ experience with the S100. Lots of people love it and will continue to use it. Maybe I put it on wrong, maybe the stars just were not lined up that day, but look at it like this….if I messed that product up during application, maybe another product that I don’t “mess upâ€ during application (if that is what I did) is a better product for ME. By the same token, it doesn’t mean my experience wasn’t real.

Bottom line for me, if I believe in a product I want to tell people about it….I will talk to you all day long about my SVT Lightning…doesn’t mean I am going to convert you from a Chevy person….that’s not my intent.

At some point or another, we all learned of new and better “things by recommendations from others. Unless we try them for ourselves, how do we know if they are what WE want for ourselves?

I do not want to “ruffle anyone’s feathers by my posts and am sorry that is what this has done on my “maiden post.

I will refrain from doing so in the future. Please don’t hold it against ANY product because of this post as that is not fair to the product or yourself.

Sorry for this turning into a soap opera

Andy,

That has got to be one of the most sincerest and straight from the heart things I've heard here on Autopia.

I hope your future experience here on Autopia are positive, fun, inspirational, and educational.

Everyone here means well, and I'm pretty sure you will discover that during your time here.

Keep on shining!

now that this thread has calmed down a bit. I have a question about the Tropi-care products I noticed in the pictures of the yellow WRX that it was beading water well but the beads where very large is that common with this product? Also how does it compare in slickness to Zaino since it seems to be comparable to Zaino in shine. Thanks for the info.

Im not so sure that they were as large as they look. I took the pictures zoomed in quite close and I think it makes them appear larger than they really are. Kind of a lame excuse but it's the best I can do because I really didn't notice the beads being larger than much anything else.

That being said, my wife's CRV has the hood done with Tropi-Care and one side topped with S100. I'll try to get the hose out today and spray it down and get a photo for comparison sake.

I just called and purchased a kit, I am going to do a nice little write up on this product. I think it deserves a chance, and i have the perfect vehicle to test it on.... MY work truck. The thing looks horrible, it has survived this winter and has had quite the beating. This will be a test of any product.

Anyone have any products that you would like me to do a side by side comparison with?? any recomendations on prep, i will probably Blue clay magic, DACP, Menzerna FP... what ever anyone wants me to compare side by side.

Okay, as promised, here are the beading pictures on my wife's CRV. This is about 10 day old Tropicare versus 5 day old S100. Take a look at all the photos and then the last one shows which is which.

This is with no prep work or anything, I just picked up the hose, soaked it down, picked up the camera and took the pictures.

Please ignore my total lack of Photoshop skills in labeling the last picture.

 but i guessed wrong :( Both sides look real good with beading. the tropicare beads are even a little tighter than the s100 beads i appears. Nice results :). I am looking forward to trying this out, and wolfgang, and poorboys, and... AHHH I am soo behind in testing and new products. MANUFACTURERS: STOP MAKING PRODUCTS FOR AT LEAST A MONTH!! PLEASE! MY WALET IS GETTING TOO LIGHT!

I got a note from Scottwax and then read this thread. Andy_cain and Scottwax are both friends of mine. I have had them both to my house and both are welcome anytime they want to come up for a visit. I have had Scottwax detail my beloved Lightning, my wife's Suzuki, my mumnlaws minivan, and my newly acquired Acura.

Andy and I have had many a discussion on detailing products and we have both tried products that we have agreed on whether its good and have had differing opinions on whether it wasnt.

I use S100 on all my vehicles, I like it and like it a lot. It is easy to use, leaves no residue and has decent lasting power; even up here in Erie, land of ice snow and salt in the winter. When I met Andy, he was a Zaino fan, and frankly I wasnt. I didnt care to spend the money, but his results were very good and his truck and Porsche showed it. He did try S100 and didnt have good results. I was floored. But he didnt and he eventually got his hood back in good shape. He tried S100 at my urging.

Scottwax has tried several different products on my vehicles. I cursed him the day he showed my that my Speed Shine was not the best detailer. I am such a Griot Garage fan. But now I will buy another detailer and will continue to use S100. Darned you Scott!! But that is what progress is all about.

I count them both as friends and I dont think either one of them is given to telling mistruths.

I am a lucky guy.

I also really appreciated that Andy, thank you.

Agreed.

I would still like the opportunity to see what may have happened with your S100 experience because it wasn't normal at all. I do know that some liquid carnaubas can cause streaking on single stage paint, especially if not all the oxidation was removed during the polishing steps.

I got my tropi care in today. I will be heading outside once i think i can feel my feet again (i have been wearing bad shoes distributing flyers OUCH!) I am planning on contrasting Tropi care, EX-P, NXT, and UPP. I will post a review sometime tomorrow or sat. Maybe some tonight, we'll see :)

I'm a newbie here but I've been using the Tropi-care products for a little over 3 months now. I had been using Zaino for the past 2 years and tried many other products before that (Zymol, Blitz, 3M, Meguiars, etc, etc). I'm very impressed with the Tropi-care and will continue to use it. It's very easy and quick yet gives all the results of everything else I've tried. It's actually quite am impressive product when you consider ease, shine, and longevity. It's been on both my cars for 3 months and since each has only had normal washing with Tropi-care car wash and I'm just now beginning to feel that it's time to put another coat or two on the truck (it lives outside 100% of the time)...I imagine I won't need another coat on my M5 for 6-12 months since it's never outside for any long periods, never in the rain and rarely gets dirty (except for brake dust which is another topic entirely). I'm also very impressed with the tire dressing. It's not shiny or greasy, it doesn't seem to fly off on to the paint and the best part is the brown crud that accumulates on the sidewalls washes off and leaves the matte balck sidewall. I don't use tire dressing every time I wash the truck and only reuse any product when the sidewall is no longer matte black. In 3 months I've only needed to use the tire shine twice to achieve the results I like.

I highly recommend trying the product before you condemn it.

No one has condemned this product. Not one unkind word has been said about this product, only about how it's being touted here. :sosad

Where does this thinking come from? The only product condemned here is S100...By a Tropi-Care fan. :down

People here offer honest reviews of products...and of other's posts.

Here's my review of your post:

The author needs to get a grip and read this thead more carefully. Spending more time here before making suggestions on how others should post is a good thing.

I'm not here to fight with anyone and just wanted to throw in my honest review of the product. I think that the way you guys jumped on the original poster about his comments on S100 sort of tainted the intent of his original post and I just wanted to add that I am a happy Tropi-care user (and a very, very picky car guy). I don't participate on many online forums b/c of the constant attacks. We all don't have the luxury of being able to analyze every word in a thread that is over 50 posts long but I think you all get my drift that I'm happy with the product and will continue to use it. I really don't care if you try it and don't personally benefit in any way if you do or don't. I recommend it b/c it's quick, easy, gives equal or better results then anything else I've tried and reasonably priced. I think those of us who love our cars but find less and less free-time as our careers and families change can appreciate a new product that really does what it claims to do and in less time then many similar products.
