Layering Zaino CS

I was lucky enough to test a few Zaino CS samples, and have been asked several times ‘Can Zaino Clear Seal be Layered’.

I honestly didn’t know (hadn’t really tested it much). This past weekend I decided to CS our Tahoe x 2 after washing –just to see if I could notice a difference. I needed an excuse to heat up the garage over the weekend too 

My process was Z7 Wash, Turbo Wax Tire Gel on the tires & wells, Z6 QD wipe down, and CS x 2 (2 hours apart) on all externals (paint, glass, trim, plastic) using a new Zaino applicator.

After the 1st coat, I QD’d the exterior using a mix of Z6/Z8 cut 4:1 (which I love), then I moved onto the 2nd coat of CS, which I didn’t touch after it dried.

After letting the 2nd coat sit over night I noticed an improvement in gloss and slickness. The paint felt slicker than Z5Pro topped with Z8 (which is hard to believe).

Here are a few shots of my wife’s daily driver (my test bed) -p.s. This is going to be my wife’s last black vehicle 

First of all, nice job. I see no need to layer ZCS. It's a very durable, one step, apply and walk away product. The FAQ states that no benefit is added to layer ZCS. Yes, Z2 and Z5 has benefit to some degree. I often add more layers of Z2 and Z5 just to ensure 100% coverage. But ZCS is not necessary. Just wash it and use Z6 or for that special occasion top it with Z8. I can see reapplying ZCS 3 times per year - despite the 9 month claim of durabilty. Just my opinion from my limited experience so far.

Looks great John!

What year is the tahoe and how many miles? Looks better then new to me.

What do you mean last black car for the wife? I think someone with your skills would get bored with a different color. :xyxthumbs

How long have you been using the Z6/Z8 cut 4:1? Does it reduce the gloss or slickness of Z8 alone?

I have been 5 months with CS over 3x of Z5pro on the wifes car and even though it has not been washed in two weeks.......:o I still can see a great shine under that dirt. :xyxthumbs

I hope to get to wash it on thursday and give a 5 month update.

That looks incredible. If you are seriously looking to sell it and it is 4x4 I would be interested in talking to you about purchasing it.

Thanks guys.

Bryan,

The Tahoe is an 03 Z71 with ~ 45K on the clock.

If she gets another black vehicle it's going to be downsized from a Tahoe :)

I've been using the Z6/Z8 mix since last September and it works very well (for me). IMO it conserves your Z8 supply, while providing many of the same benefits. It's not quite up to Z8 as a stand alone in terms of gloss and slickness, but it is fairly close. I think it wipes dry a little better than Z8 as a stand alone product too.

I will agree 100% **No need to layer CS for protection**. One coat is PLENTY for sure!

I'm layering for appearance only. Many folks like to layer products and want to know if you get any additional 'bling'. I noticed a difference layering CS on our black paint. I plan to try the same on my silver STS this weekend.

One thing that I've noticed on my paint is that CS dries the same on my panels each and every time. For example, I have 2 small areas at the front of my hood that set up & dry last every time. Have you guys noticed this? It doesn't cause any problems, I'm just amazed that the drying pattern is spot on every time.

Excellent work......I know what you mean about black.....:D

That custom mix sounds very interesting. I'll have to get another bottle of Z8 and give it a shot on my vehicles. Thanks for the tip......:xyxthumbs

Does anyone have any side by side hood pics of the car with CS and without CS, but with the same stuff (presumably Z-5 pro)? I have tried CS about 6 times now on 6 different cars, and have yet to see any difference between the before CS and after CS. I love the way Z-5 pro looks, but just cannot see the CS is doing anything other than protecting.

Have you tried CS as a stand alone LSP and over Z5? I can notice a difference between the 2, just as I can notice a difference if I top Z5Pro with a coat of Z2Pro, and even more *bling* if you top with Z8. I'm not sure if my eye picked up on the subtle differences at first, but after using Zaino extensively, I can spot them quickly. I think most folks focus on the gloss and clarity (can't see the forest for the trees). Make sense?

When I top my LSP with CS I notice additional clarity, gloss, wetness in the paint. I don't see this right away. CS should be evaluated after it dries and cures, which for the most part is 1 day later.

Capturing side by side differences on camera would require skills that are above my novice level. I'm a point and shoot guy that uses the "auto" mode on the dial :)

I HAVE tried CS as a Stand alone LSP over Z-5. I cannot pick up a difference. I have tried it over other things such as FMJ and #26 as well. I have done it quite a few times over Z2 pro, like I said on about 6 cars. I think that if they are correct and we get 9 months of coverage that is great, but I have yet to see any difference from the physical "sight" improvement at all. Even after waiting 24 hours.

Well I do have a piece of evidence. Attached is a picture of my G35 taken in October (left frame) after a Z2P application x 3, with a top layer of Z6. The frame on the right was taken last weekend with Z2p and ZCS layered over it. No Z6 or Z8 on top. The picture on the left the car was two months old. The picture on the right is 5 months later.

I can see a difference in more detail on the hood after the ZCS treatment. The gloss is there on both frames. But I can notice depth and more detail.

Same camera, same time of day, same quality of resolution.

I have 4 coats of Z-CS, I did each a week apart right after a wash or coat of Z2 or Z5. I do notice a slight differance, but it rained hard friday saturday, and after washing my car my paint felt a little streaky with my hands. Plus the water while I was washing wasn't beading as a lot as usual. Very strange. It was pouring hard all day, so I just did a Z7 wash and Z2 and then Z-CS. Next day wipe down of Z8 and it's looking great again!

I don't know about my paint being all streak, maybe I'm just over reacting...

Regardless... it's still shiny like it's been detailed. It's the best stuff I've ever used and I'm sure I'm just over reacting because my hands were very hot and sweaty when I was trying to evaluate my paint after I washed/dried it. Maybe I should of wash hands before putting my dirty hands on a clean finish...

I'm very happy to be a Zaino fan!

But a product that everyone is raving about for protection is not protecting

The topkick truck that I did back in early Nov had:

ZPC polish by PC and CS applied to the cab.

ZAIO by PC applied to the bed and tailgate.

Both where beta versions.

The truck sites outside 24/7 and does not get that much love.

In mid Jan I saw the truck sitting outside, it was raining that day and both products had good beading.

In mid Feb the owner washed the truck and told me it still had good beading.

thank you gmblack. I have not seen anywhere near the protection they are talking about, and apparently either is the other user, but I am glad that you are. I hope it works well for most. I just cannot see a difference in adding it visualy.

Durability has been outstanding so far

Sorry to hear that you aren't experiencing the same results as most others. :wall You might want to give Sal a call before throwing in the towel.

In the end, I would recommend sticking with products that work best for you.
