How deep of a scratch will SSR2.5 take out? Find out in here

So I have a car that is going to get repainted, I decided that I would see how serious of a scratch I could take out with just a PC and some SSR 2.5. Here is a before picture of the scratch I put in the hood with a pair of pliers (cringe :scared: )

Here is an after, when I took the picture at the same angle it didnt come out right so I had to take a different angle.

It came out alright, an autopian would spot the area after looking closely but the average person wouldnt see it. I used SSR 2.5 with a yellow cutting pad on speed 6 with about 10-15 pounds of pressure :shocked . When I decided it wasnt going to get much better I stopped, the hood was almost burning to the touch. I wonder how much clear is left

After looking at the swirls, I decided to practice taking them out. Here is a nice before picture

after the same method as the scratch removal, here is an after

Nice little experiment. Did you wipe down with isa:water afterwards? Just wondering. Heh, I bet even given the repaint it was hard taking pliers to the cars paint. I know it would be for me. :)

nope, just a microfiber towel.

I got a little bored and cleaned her up a little bit, who knows why because its all getting repainted. I guess you are just like that when you are an autopian.

How long did you work that spot to remove the swirls?? It looks great!

Im not really sure... i think it was like +-3 minutes? It was only a small 1.5 by 1.5 area on the hood and I was going at it really hard (SSR 2.5 with a yellow cutting pad on 6 with a little weight on it... i doubt I would do that on an area that I wasnt planning on repainting). Im so happy though, the car is being picked up tommorow to head off to the bodyshop! :dance

From the heat of speed 6 plus 15lbs of pressure I guess.

Hmm, I have applied MANY polishes/pad combos/pounds of pressure to a PC and NEVER received any heat transfer to the paint. :nixweiss

With the rotary is a different story, but never with the PC.

You guys can actually heat up the paint to the point of "burning hot" with a PC?

I've never actually TRIED to get my paint "burning hot" with the PC, and I don't plan on it. :)

I've felt the paint pretty warm after polishing on 6, but never hot enough to be uncomfortable.

Hmm, I have never even managed to get paint warm with the PC. I guess warm is a relative term though. :)

I tried out my ssr2.5 via PC on a section on my hood. Just going back and forth for about 1 minute on speed 3-4. I noticed no difference at all after buffing if off. Should I be buffing longer or bump the speed up to 5 or somthing or maybe a combo of both?

How did it get "burning to the touch" using the PC? Or did I miss something?

I was working in one area without much movement on speed 6 with a lot of pressure.... It would have burned my hand if I kept it on the hood. I would never recommend what I did to that hood for a regular car. Off- topic the car finally left for the bodyshop and will be done this weekend! :dance

I never get results when taking out imperfections with a speed under 5. Im not sure if im doing something wrong though?
