HD Challenge (@ SEMA?)

To answer your questions about holograms, you can get holograms with a Porter Cable or other DA polisher.

See videos bellow. We tested it on a black car in our lot.

In this video, we show HD Uno with a HD Uno Polishing Pad. We set the Porter Cable the #6 setting (6800 opm) and use medium to firm pressure. As mentioned, HD Uno does leave holograms. However, in the next video, we show how to remove these holograms easily without using any other product.

In this video we go over the same section with a little HD Uno and a Lake Country Finishing pad. This time, we set the Porter Cable to the #3 setting and use light pressure. Very few passes. The HD Uno wipes off very easy with a microfiber.

Try for yourself and let us know your results.

It does if you move fast on a less than perfect finish, but so does any other polish. In the first video, you are moving the RO fast and leaving what I call tiger stripes. If you move the RO slow enough to not leave those, you won't get any holograms. I believe the smaller the pad, the easier it is to leave tiger stripes. You will get a bit of haze with an orange pad, but you would with anything else.

BTW, your shirt tag is showing...lol.

Ben - looks like you used an HD UNO orange pad in the first video. No?

Didn't notice that, but your right. We also had the Lake County Pads on hand, but guess we didn't use them in the video. Same results regardless of the pad.

Good thing I was not the one doing the polishing. :o

YouTube - HD Uno via Griots RO

Video is hard work, lol, this was take three, I was moving a bit fast here because I didn't want to take off more paint. I used a liberal amount of UNO. Point is, it wipes off super easy for me.

I guess the key is to apply not 3 dots but to get a ring of product just like using Menzerna or over the Meguiars polishes.

Honestly, not sure what the proper way is, but it does work well that way. Sling is not an issue with UNO, even via rotary.

Finally got the chance to try out the UNO this past weekend. It actually did a good job and was pleasantly suprised. Did the same job as the 105 and 205 combined.

The suggestions to go over the same section at low speed and a finishing pad definately helped as it came out much easier.

I agree. Use slow speed with finishing pad and comes right off.

Is there a speed other than 6? Lol... I'm guilty of always having the RO at top speed unless waxing, sometimes I turn it down to 5. I love the GG6, its so much more powerful than my original PC that i have retired the PC to 4" duty only.

What is GG6?

If you apply as much product as in Yakky's video, UNO doesn't cut. 3D will also tell you that.

Looks like this challenge might be able to tie in with this event:

http://www.autopia.org/forum/autopi...-anniversary-color-sanding-seminar-party.html

Any takers???

I'll take the bait...

Here is the original premise of the "shootout":

Autopia Expert said:
It came to 3D's attention today that a rumor was started on another forum about the new HD UNO car polish. The rumor basically stated that HD UNO caused holograms and was only a mediocre product.

As a result, Tunch, the owner of 3D, asked me to "drop the gauntlet" and invite three challengers to 3D in Santa Clarita, CA, all expenses paid. In other words, bring the polishes you think can't be beat, and use them side-by-side with HD UNO. The event will be video taped, and the results -- good or bad -- will be published on YouTube in HD.

Here's the catch:

- You may not be affiliated with the products you are putting against HD UNO

- The winning product will be determined by Autopia member votes from the videos

If I recall the part about product affiliation was removed.

Isn't it understood already that the stuff works pretty good?

It has lots of fans, right? And it's selling like crazy I assume. :dance

You and Barry are pretty well schooled with this stuff and are teaching classes at the manufacturers plant, so sounds like it's already arrived and is in solid form.

I doubt you would tout it if it didn't work! :twitch:

No need to take a nice celebration and turn it into a battle.

Or maybe this would be entertainment for 3D, akin to a current version of the Romans/lions/Gladiators gig.

I don't care to read through 20 pages of posts since the original challenge was issued , but did anyone actually get sent out to Cali to do challenge? I mean was airfare, hotel, food, and car provided completely for free too?
