HD Challenge (@ SEMA?)

no..........................

I don't care to read through 20 pages of posts since the original challenge was issued , but did anyone actually get sent out to Cali to do challenge? I mean was airfare, hotel, food, and car provided completely for free too?

Now lets keep in mind that while polishes do help make a difference. 90 percent of what we do is experiance and knowledge. I personally think any talented detailer can make a car look great with whatever chemicals or liquids they are challenged with. Now I am being flown out to host this detailing seminar. While Im there I will be fully loaded and ready to stand behind 3D's HD UNO. So if its a challenge some one wants " In the words of the Rock! " Just Bring it " <---- I mean that in a very nice way. Do not take that cocky!

:director: Hey BuffDaddy do you care to bring it? :nana: :fencing:

True....but that doesn't mean I don't want a free trip to go head to head with other top detailers. :)

Shall I bring two tubes of Colgate toothpaste and a pair of handheld electric mixers?

Wrap the beaters with a couple 1970's John McEnroe headbands....

Turn that mutha into a Cyclo of sorts.

90% is a bit high... :nerd: "Paint polishing is a craft, not an art."

If I do attend, I'd rather be a nice guest. Never used 3D, don't know anybody at 3D. Never been the type to puff the chest out as a guest in someone's home or anywhere else.

It might be nice to meet some people though. Glad-hand, listen, learn some stuff. See how the East-Coast guys do it.

Besides- I'm a bit rusty from sitting behind a computer for the past year and a quarter.

Now- if anyone wants to swing 'em long & low...

I would really enjoy watching all the big-gun attendees show their talents in a blind test of sorts...

Unknown brand, unknown compound, unknown paint type, unknown machine (ahead of time). THEN perhaps we're getting close to 90%!

Then we could see which among us were true artists. Err... craftsman.

Perhaps then my hand might slip and hit a buffer trigger...

If we had a contest to see who could write the longest post... I may have to step up to the plate. :hifive:

That would be a fun contest. Get some of those really old and nasty cutting compounds that used to be around. I am sure we could find some old formula online somewhere and wip up a nasty batch.:think2

Only a master detailer would survive!

Your more than welcome to come out Kevin. If its just for the party or both. If you take the 126, can be here in about 2 hours.

Hey Barry - Look at the lady in this picture - experience indeed! :)

You ought to talk to Joe Fernandez... he made up some "compound" out of a mixture of corn meal and kerosene once (I think that's what it was?) and used it on a panel with old single stage lacquer paint.

Paying guests??? Does this mean you're coming???? :hungry:

I think the prize should go to the person how can use UNO the best!! :first:

SHOOTOUT!

How cool. I saw the "all expenses paid" deal for three guys.

Perhaps that could apply to three guys coming from WAY out of the area? This way, more local guys could attend and join in.

Personally, I would like to see a shootout INCLUDING guys from other companies.

Not necessarily at any one manufactures facility... Just thinking out loud.

But 3D thought of it. I applaud the challenge, nonetheless. Kudos.

Can you better clarify the statement, "You may not be affiliated with the products you are putting against HD UNO"?

Are there other stipulations?

Rotary or random orbital okay?

Magic Elixers or Super Stealth pads allowed? Customized machines?

And on video, too!:2thumbs:

How fun and exciting this could be! :woot:

SEMA :bump:

Barry wanted my to ask if any of the Meg's guys are willing to bring their magic elixers over to the 3D booth this year for a little :waxing::fencing::whip:

Barry, with what they've got coming, it would likely blind you. I couldn't cope with that level of guilt.

I think Barry is 1/2 blind already. I think a mini challenge would be fun! Heck, Robert can bring his line over too! :)

I vote for Dave Saunders, Todd H, Todd Cooperider, Lucci Elite, Eric Witt from Tru Shine and Bob Willis. These guys really get superior results from the click and brag type posts here and elsewhere. I don't believe they "work" directly for any company that makes products although both Todd's run forums that are tied to stores but thatmshould not matter they are excellent detailers They have reputations for being honest pro's who tell it like it is. If they can't beat the 3d product I would say its bulletproof. There might be other guys who are in their league but I can't recall their names right now.

I hope a coin toss will determine who gets what side just be be sure it is on the up and up. Love to see this.

IMHO - I think it would be pretty intersting if you had the elite paint correction guys like Kevin Brown, Ryan Blanchette, RickRack, Todd Helme, Bryan Burnworth(to name just a few) take part in the shootout. These guys not only know how to squeeze every last bit of gloss out of perfected paint, but they've done some pretty impressive product reviews in the past. They'd be able to lend the most credibility for the comparison.

I had nothing to do with this above comment.

I think a mini challenge would be fun, But I would much rather us all in one room just having fun. I think it would be neat to compare everyones style and learn from each other.

If this ever happens, I'd like to take a shot.

This is a video I shot for a customer so he could see what I'd done with his car while he was out of town. This took about 4 hours. I had to spay wash the car, no hose, use a solvent to remove the old wax and oils, nanoskin towel, clean up again, then high speed, BO6040, then wax by hand. Getting the oxidation dust out of everywhere was courtesy the Metrovac Master Blaster (I love that name, ;o))

Sorry for the shake I took this with my phone. I'm getting a better camera and a tripod very soon. When I do I'll take another walk around this car and let you see the end result in more detail. (Pun intended, sorry.)

90% percent technique.................... then I should get the same results with clearing out the shelves at my local Kragen(Nu finish CAN work with the right pad....) Im your Huckleberry. ;)

A lot of our work is the Indian and not the arrow. But technology has made leaps and bounds to the point of one of us training someone for 5-10 minutes and they can achieve 85-90% of a pro on easy to work with paint. I love the idea of a challenge and I'd love to give it my best vs the worlds best. I think a microscope will be the only possible way to tell the difference between the work though.
