Harbor Freight 6" DA

I just got mine yesterday finally, took it apart seeing the above posts about greasing the gears and mine was already packed nicely. I polished out a new Toyota RAV yesterday with it and I LOVE it, it's my new favorite DA and I have several others! This a great machine for the price IMO...

Just got an email today that this polisher is on sale for $50, valid until 12/24/12, cannot be used with any other coupon, limit 4.

I'm glad I found this thread, I'm going to pick one up tonight.

Yup! I got it as well.

Was going to wait until after the first of the year, but at that price and $6.99 shipping, no reason to hold off.

Ordered it last night.

Someone posted this HF coupon:

20% off any one item w/Code 22478559

Expires: Dec 25

Joe - what is the benefit of the Meg's backing plate? I assume it's compatible with thier pads. I looked around and found Meg's has several backing plates (even in the 6" size). What specific BP and size do you prefer?

Mike

I forget the part number but it is the plate that comes with the G110v2.

joe, is this every bit as good as any other DA you've used (G110v2, PCXP, etc,)?

IMHO it fits between the old PC and the G110v2. I love the size of the body (easy to hold) and the location of the on/off switch.

Over three months now with daily use (and dropped hard twice) and still ROCKS!!

Thanks (I think :lol1:). I ordered on the first and they are back ordered until the 18th. A great deal and worth waiting for a while. I look forward to trying this machine out.

I also had been waiting since mid Dec. At least they didn't charge my card. Since I've been reading that this machine is not much better than a PC, I called HF and canceled my order.

Update: We use ours ALL the time! The cord looks like it is going bad. It will turn on and off or off completely and a wiggle of the cord puts it back in biz. I'll swap the cord and get back to it!!

Joe, for the money, and for the enthusist who has no real need for a Rupes, why not.

Cords are easy for most anyone to replace.

I noticed on my new one that, yes, the cord is stiff and cheap, big deal, a trip to the hardware store, a little time, put on a quailty cord and it's just fine.

Ron did I seem like I was complaining in my last post??? I bought my machine for $47 and made $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ with it already. I can throw it away and still be ahead. I always have replacement cords on board the detail rig and in my garage. Every brand I have ever had has had a cord go bad sooner or later.

WaxManRonnie. Yes they do. I bought one when the brand was Chicago Electric. Now the brand they carry is Drill Master. I dont know about the drill master one but the Chicago Electric one I have is pretty good. Has lasted many years. I just picked up the DA from there today and it feels really solid. I hope it will be as good a machine as the Rotary.

This thread just made my day. I am a newbie and was going to buy the PC 7424xp but I am going to get this. I have a couple questions. What is the issue of the backing plate that comes with it, do I have to get a new one? Has anyone used the foam pads at HF or should I get the Lake Country pads? Which size LC pads will fit on this backing plate if the HF ones are no good?

I am thinking about getting Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0 followed by Wolfgang Finishing Glaze 3.0 then sealed with Meguiars NXT.

Another general question about using a polisher, can I remove the above products with a microfiber pad on the machine or so I have to remove it with a microfiber towel by hand, like I usually do.

I have not issue with the backing plate, I use 6 inch pads, those who use 5 1/2 appear to have an issue.

As far as using it for removal, just put on a new soft foam pad, lay a micro fiber down, put the unit on slowest speed directly on the towel, and remove, checking the towel for removed product build up, when noticed, switch to a clean side or a clean towel.

I would recommend you go with the 3D Speed or Uno for more cut/polish and the HD Polish is one of the finest I have found in 30 years.

Not a fan at all of the Wolfgang line, lot of "promotion", sorta of like the guy with the big hat and the big belt buckle, no cattle.

The NXT is fine for a finish product.
