Frustrated- Zaino with Black (long)

Here is my problem: I have a black trans am. It has had nothing but zaino and lots of it from day one. I ordered the car and it was not touched by the dealer. The car is garaged and is a weekend driver. I only wash the car a couple times a year as it rarely gets dirty. I use z6 and a california car duster on it all the time. It looks great. Before I apply more zaino I always make sure the surface is perfectly clean. One coat it looks great and will look like this

However, I will add a couple more coats and it looks terrible. It is like I am fighting a never ending battle. I only use pakshak mf's. Do you think I applying too much zaino, not in how much I am using, but how often I put it on? On the average I put about 3 coats of z5/zfx every 2 weeks. But I may not drive the car at all for that time period. Does having the car in the sun help to cure or dry the zaino? My only guess is it is not fully drying and the swirls I am seeing are not in the clear coat, but rather zaino which is not dried and not removed? I love the zaino and the way it looks, but it is driving me crazy. The car is an absolute blast to drive, but I am more concerned about trying to keep the car clean than driving it. I am seriously considering switching to s100. How long will the s100 last and can you layer it like zaino or are there abrasives in it and each time it is applied it will remove what was already on there? I don't really need the extra protection zaino provides and am thinking the s100 will fill the few swirls better than the zaino is?

I've never used Zainos, so I really don't know what is causing your problem, but I do use S100 and love the stuff.

S100 won't last like Zainos will, but it is pretty good for a carnuba, although one member has been having a problem with his car not beading for very long, but he seems to be the only one. My customer's cars are beading for 3 months (I try to make sure I wax them by then), and it seems pretty durable on my own car too, even though I wax it monthly. It is still beading really nicely.

You can also top Zainos with S100 if you like and see if you like how it looks. Check out user 'perry' in the gallery, he has a few Zaino/S100 pics.

If you want a longer lasting base, but want to swith from Zainos, Car Polish's Final Polish is a polymer that is supposed to last 6 months (although I've only been using it a month now) that really looks good when topped by S100. I posted a review and some pics in the product review section.

is your zfx still good?

have you tried single coats (on separate days) without it zfx?

what do you wash (and QD) your car with before applying another layer of Z?

I have had the exact same problem. If I apply more than one coat of Z (w/ZFX) in one day, the first coat will look great, but the others will look terrible. After two weeks or so, the new coats will look as good as the first coat, but it takes a while.

My theory is that you can't really apply more than one coat of Zaino at a time. If you apply more than one, they will take a while to cure. ZFX helps alleviate this problem but does not fix it entirely.

Hopefully one coat at a time will work for you too.

I have no personal experience with Zaino. Is it possible that you haven't removed all of the zaino?

I know a fella that liked to show his car, he seemed to feel that removing all of the wax/polish/whatever was the biggest enemy for a black car.

The only two products I use frequently are Zaino and S100, so I have some good experience with both.

What is your problem exactly? It seems like swirls are the issue?

I am not really sure what the problem is. I think it maybe the zaino not fully drying and curing and what i am seeing is a hazy mess of zaino that appears to be swirls.

//MMMGood, that looks amazing. What is he using on it?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I am going to try some s100 on atleast part of the car and see how it turns out.

I have been hooked on Z for about a year now.

I live in a fairly humid climate, so it is necessary to let the Z1 cure overnight before applying Z2. Usually I'll do the Z1 on Friday night, then Z2 on Saturday morning.

I love it on my black Grand Prix. (Probably the same paint as your TA)...

An important point is this: I've found that the thinner I apply Zaino, the higher the shine. I have 8 coats on my GP.

I can do my entire car with less than 1 ounce of Z2.

Hmmm, don't know what the problem is...with zfx the stuff should be cured in about 20 min assuming it is above 60 degrees or so. Is it cold where you are and maybe you are trying to buff out too soon? I would assume since your first coat is always fine that that isn't the problem. Another thing...I don't think you need to use ZFX after the first coat (except every 6 months), so if you are layering intermittently like it sounds you are you might forego the ZFX. Of course this requires overnight to cure. Why don't you send an email to Sal at his website....http://www.zainobros.com

Also you could try the regular wax route like people here have suggested. Especially since the car is garaged most of the time and you seem willing to wax quite often anyway. Zaino seems more applicable to people like me (lazy but want good protection for a few months).

too thick:

I have 3 coats out of an ounce on a Mazda MPV

There's a member here somewhere who stretches it as far as 6 (!) coats out of an ounce

That's REMARKABLE!!!

I'm on the thin coat band-wagon!

Thinner is better..................:xyxthumbs

Heheh, I don't know how those people do it. My first time I did a coat per ounce. Didn't have trouble taking it off though. Did a couple of coats on 1 ounce the other day so I'm getting better. I don't think I can go much thinner than that...I can't see the coats well enough. I'm guessing though I have alot of product up in the foam applicator's I use. I try to moosh it on the car and squeeze out some that way but I can't imagine getting thinner and being able to see where I've been.

It was just number 9 meguiars at the time. I think he is changing his routine up all of the time...that or he is lying to me. Now he says he is using meguiars cleaner wax. I think he is trying to mess me up. I am going to put a hidden camera in his garage.

Says that he has to use a machine to take the wax off...otherwise it is impossible to get it off by hand.

Heres the trick to spreading Zaino thin...

Use either a foam applicator soaked with Z6 OR break out the PC, soak the pad with Z6 and massage an equal small amount on the entire pad.

Ive gotten no more then 4 coats out of an ouce. I cant imagine getting 6, thats pretty good although i would like to see his results from it.
