Finish Kare 425

I tried out my 425 and PW over my 2180 on my hood the other day..that 425 is slick..makes it fun to work with..but it didn't take long before the pollen came back..I don't recall it being any different than before...maybe I'll try a little experiment with 425 on one side and FI on the other

I QD'd using the 146 last night and experienced the same pollen reaction today.

Overall, there was less pollen and debris on the car today after sitting all day in the parking lot at work which is surrounded by trees/woods. The pollen that was on the car was the bigger bits and pieces just like with 425 and FX-100. The finer dust and pollen did not adhere to the finish as badly as it previously had with other products.

The bugs seem to like 146 as much as they do 425 which I am finding very frustrating.

Perhaps less of a candy like smell without altering the formula would do the trick for this?

The slickness of the 146 improved overnight just as with the FX-100 and 425. I can understand the FX-100 doing this as most sealants behave this way but the other two products are QD's so this really surprises me. Ultimately, I prefer the 146 over the 425 because the slickness is very, very close to the 425 yet the cleaning properties of the 146 are superior.

Next up; Pink Wax this weekend.

bees! I've not had the same experience at all aside from the bug issue, and what I've noticed is that 425 seems to attract every bee in the neighborhood. it's an interesting experience, but they appear to be more attracted to the car than to me.

I have the FX-100 figured out. I must say the pollen was drastically reduced. (not sure if it was a low pollen day, but I dont think so)

This product really makes black shine. It adds excellent depth and water resilliancy. I did see some minor streaking during use, but this was eliminated by applying more product and working the towel in smaller areas.

Pollen is a natural thing and nothing IMO will prevent it from getting on a vehicle. Having protection to help against it , yes but if people expect pollen to not land on your vehicle because it has 425 or whatever on it is obsurd. It's like bitching about a water repelent wax when it rain's.

425 is a great product , the best is alway's in the eye's of the beholder. I found it to be a nice qd but was disappointed when people were braggin about a WOW factor, never wow'd me but I do like it and use it .

Goodness I was starting to think I was the only one who didn't see what all the 425 hype was about. Without even getting into the anti-static debate, I just can't get the stuff to wipe clean for me. No matter how much or how little I use, I can always see a residue on the surface after using it, whether it's over a carnauba or a sealant. I'm using plush MF towels to buff. It's a shame because it sure does leave the finish nice and shiney, but I actually much prefer UGE for looks and slickness, and it's super easy to use.

I get the same residue issues with S&G. The only ones I use that are consistently user friendly are Quik Shine, Adam's Detail Spray, Z6 (over sealants), Griot's Speed Shine, UGE, One Grand Show Off, Sonus Acrylic Spritz, and Wolfgang Detail Spritz (discontinued). Other than that, QD's can be kind of a crap shoot.

I get this too, but only if I apply it on top of a carnauba like OCW. It works fine when I put it over a sealant like FMJ.

I'm a new 425 user. It works pretty well, but it isn't perfect. The biggest wow factor I can apply to 425 is it enhances the LSP's natural look and doesn't add an over boosted shine. What surprised me is the somewhat lack of slickness when applying 425. It spreads easily at first - not like QS, but easy - yet starts to get grabby as you continue wiping. Also, some QD's (again, like QS, for example) will almost clear out perfectly as you wipe, without flipping the MF. 425 doesn't seem to do that as well. Works well on glass, though.

I'm wondering if cutting 425 would improve it's user friendliness. I might try a small 50/50 sample. Overall, it's a quality product. Lastly, it would be nice if FK included a spray bottle with the gallon purchase, like ClearKote does with QS.

Grabbiness and/or streaking can occur, when the 425 encounters an incompatible silicone (and tries to clean it up) - or the pores of the paint are *still open*. I don't have any scientific explanation for the latter effect; it only can be felt by hand with the towel. 425 CAN BE wiped out perfectly, just use the necessary amount. Using the big sprayer, you have to spray once per panel, and with the 4 oz sample bottle 2-3. After you wiped the 425 clean, spritz lightly more on the same spot and continue to clear it out. You'll notice that after 3-4 layers, the surface will be slick, *as the pores close*. Then, you won't gain further slickness with more layers. This is the point when the finish has reached a certain *sealed* state. This can be observed with a lot of products, like OCW too.

Slickness will be there big time on the next day.

Thanks for the reply, Bence. So far I've used 425 over AJ toped with FX Spray on one car and fresh 845 on another car. The effort was the same on both cars. I use a small amount of 425 and apply with a quality MF. I didn't imply 425 was horrible to use, just not as easy as some. 425 does clear out mostly on the initial pass(es), just not as well as some other QD's. The finish does feel slick to the touch, afterwards. Just for fun, I did a second application about an hour later and 425 was a Little more enjoyable to use, though not completely effortless.

Have you ever tried diluting 425? If diluted 425 couldn't remove incompatible silicones as well, it may be more user friendly with a greater number of LSP's.

Rob,

I always use 425 straight. I don't see a point in the further dilution of a QD which has about 3% active ingredients in it...

I've used it over Mothers FX, 845, and countless other LSPs, but never had even minor difficulties with it. I have a QD, Riwax Quick Shine which has the same feel as 845 (spreads forever), but somehow I like the clean feel of the 425 better. RQS has silicones, 425 is body shop safe.

The key im my experiece with using 425 is having the right towel and a good sprayer.

FK keep costs down, give you allot of product and have the best shipping prices of any detailing company/seller yet. So their sprayers are FAR from ideal. No biggie.

425 needs a sprayer that can produce a very even spray pattern. I find my old bottles of MOthers spray products work perfectly. One good trigger pull and its enough for one quarter panel.

May not sound like allot but that's because I'm using a very short nap towel like the Sonus Der Wunder polishing towel. Like any other final prouct I buff with with a dedicated polishing towel.

Trying to apply 425 with a buffing towel or the furry side of the MF is not a good idea. THe product will smear and you'll end up using way more than you need.

The less 425 you use at once the better it will disipitate and spread evenly.

As for WOW, it's the first product that has prompted comments from allot of people I know.

The ease of use for this product still has me scratching my head.

Yesterday evening I cleanded with Optimun No-Rinse. (Weird expereince)

I dried the car by spraying the damp car with 146 to further clean any remaining dirt.

one quick application of 425.

One quick application of FX100 with a foam pad.

Car looked perfect this morning and my neighbohr commented on its looks.

But I'm still looking for a wetter look, even though the car has never looked better.

Just an unavoidable condition of silver car owning autopian.

1000P wetter than Pink Wax?

I've got PW on there now. Nice warm glow b but like S100, Souveran, Signature Series, still left me wanting more, not really the deep gloss.

hmm....

How does Quikshine compare to #425?

IME, QS spreads easier from beginning to end, and clears a little faster. FK better maintains the look of the LSP it's over whereas QS has a more consistent look which is slightly glossier.

Ease of use: QS

Appearance: Draw

Slick/Smooth to the touch: Draw

Versatility: QS

Value: FK

Overall, can't go wrong with either.

The Pink is bright and reflective, but over 1000P the wetness is better IMO.

Rob, I'd give the versatility nod definitely to 425. Can you use QS on plastics, laptop screens?
