Finish Kare 425

I have found that #425 does indeed reduce the amount of dust settling on the car. Eliminate? No. Reduce as compared to other products? Yes. When it's pollen season one can only ask for so much. That is when the California Duster comes into play......on a daily basis.

Once #425 has been applied the CD glides over the surface and removes all. Just a suggestion, what do I know?

hmmm...I chucked my car duster.

Seemed like I never really cleaned that thing. Just chucked in the trunk until the next cleaning.

Now I use FK 146 and a waffle weave. 146 claims to reduce the amount of cleaning. I was very pleasantly surprised by the finish it left. So now I first clean with 146 and then follow up with 425.

Takes five minutes. Makes a world a difference.

p.s.

The Michelin Tire dressing from Autozone is doing a very good job. I spray it on liberally and wipe off with a rag. Nice dark matte finish. With the FK stuff my car looks just washed and waxed in zero time. I'm going to see if I can do it all in under five minutes next time.

Washed with SS&S and no 425. Little pollen after a day at the train. I am now thinking it may have been the FX100 and static charge from towels.

I used FX-100 for the first time the other day and we have sick pollen here in NEPA/SENY.

After a usual day at work the car is just covered and it looks to be a different color.

The FX-100 really minimized the pollen. It now certainly picks up pollen but the amount is about half of what it was and it looks like only the bigger "chunks" of pollen stick to the car. The finer pollen/dust is really minimized. The glass was much cleaner for the drive home as well. It usually looks greenish/yellow from the pollen.

The next day I QD'd with 425 and had the exact same pollen reaction today after a day at work. Only bigger pieces of pollen stuck and less of the fine stuff. So far I'm sold on the static minimization.

I only air dry my MF's, maybe that is helping me.

Today I just tried 146 so we'll see what happens with that one tomorrow.

I agree with the 425 streaking issue a bit. It does seem tough to keep it from streaking and my car is titanium grey. I only QD in the garage after it cools down. I don't have any streaking issues with 146.

Lastly, the 425 does attract bugs of all sorts. Drives me up the wall.

Overall, I find 146 to be the big winner so far. More cleaning capability, easier use and the surface is just about as slick as the 425. We'll how it does with the pollen tomorrow.

I tend to use 146 more than 425 as well, for the various reasons noted in the other posts. I do think that 425 spritzed on top of a carnuba, before you buff it off, is a nice touch.

Maybe diluting 425 is the answer to the streaking problem?? It does seem a little thicker than other QD's.

my $0.02 on the streaking of #425......it only seems to be an issue when the temperature is cooler (like say under 50 degrees). I have noticed no streaking whatsoever when the temperature is over 60 degrees.

You got lucky with the FX-100. It seems to make my car "slimey". I just applied it over that wash in the pictures and it seems to just smear all over the car. I may have to 425 to clean it off and deal with the pollen again!!!!

Of course I may be applying too much or not letting it dry properly.

How are you applying it?

I have double checked on the FK forum and got answers from a few people, some who are members here as well as an answer from FK tech.

Apply it with a nice MF and just rub it in. It'll kinda "melt" into the paint and there will be nothing left. I go over the whole car afterwards to make sure there is no remaining product and there really isn't if you just massage it in. I find if you let it sit and haze, it gets slimey and difficult to remove.

I don't know why FK states to let it haze, it really doesn't "haze", it just gets slimey. I did miss a bit on some glass and the next day, it came off easily thankfully but if you miss it on the paint, you likely have to reapply it to remove it. Check out how it seperates. I think there is a trementous amount of oil in the product.

I also notice that with these FK products, the full result is not realized until the next day, even with the 425 and 146 QD's. To me, Clearkote's QuickShine, Wizard's Mist and Shine,Z6 and Sonus Acrylic Spritz all leave the finish as slick as FK 425 but I don't find 425 equally slick until the next day. So much for instant gratification. :grinno:

Rob, I agree. Never had any problems whatsoever.

But I have seen a guy recently with a special QD method: He soaked the panels with the spray then tried to smear the liquid around and wondered that he got streaks and went through almost two full bottles of QD in one application...

and speaking of fx-100 on black...it's worth your time to figure out how to make it work. It made my black "Pop". I used a MF applicator and worked it in, then wiped off with MF plush towels. It did seem to streak a bit at first, but keep flipping your MF and switch to clean ones often....

Same here! I've had excellent results with both products.

I have no problems with either product. I love them both!!

425 - 1 or 2 sprays per panel, spread around. More for hood.

FX-100 - 2 or 3 sprays per panel, spread around until melted into paint, no hazing required.

146 - Works about the same as 425, just alot more cleaning power and I usually use 4 - 5 sprays per panel or long sprays across panels.

Interesting thread....I have not experienced any of the problems described here on my personal or customer cars using fk1 products.
