Finally used my sample of the new Optimum Coating

Zaino has a similar product on the back burner so it will be interesting to see if they are released near the same time.

Really? First I have heard of this.

We apply the coating to headlights after we sand and polish them at our shop.

I'll have to try that on mine. I am tired of polishing the plastic every couple of months on my Maxima. Notice the same issue with G35 headlights too. Does the coating prevent the headlights from hazing up again?

.. There is no way humanly possible I could go more than 2 weeks without applying something to my car.

I, OTOH, would happily go *years* without doing any detailing at all if it were possible :D

SO, IMO this type of product could be great, though the application caveats have me a little nervous. Sounds like something worth trying on wheels though, especially after that video from Dent's & Details...impressive indeed!

This is a little video I shot. The coating is on the wheels. The pressure washer is at 1000 psi and the wheel was not pre treated with any cleaners.

Very impressive indeed!

I'm likewise, I detail for the results not that I enjoy washing & waxing that much. I also drive 70 miles RT daily, through salt, sand and snow in the winter. I'm very interested in this product, even if I have to pay someone else to apply it (though I'd prefer to do it myself). I'd love for my 11 year old paint to bead like that!

I did use Opti-coat on my rear fender. Looks nice but smells even better (NOT!)

Probably why it says on the bottle "do not smell". :chuckle:

Of course we do smell it, right? Just like when the waiter says "hot plate" we have to touch it to see if he was right.

Just sprayed off my car again since it was dusty and then we got enough rain to spot the paint. Not sure how effective it is using the soap setting at a coin op when the soap runs right off the paint!

Hehe, I know :grinno: I sniffed on it like 12" away from the bottle and boy what a strong smell. My friend did not see "DO NOT SMELLS" sign and sniffed it right from the bottle. He went down on the chair! This could wake up the dead :D

How long did you let it cure?

If it says do not smell, I wonder what type of base ingredients it contains. Pre VOC Collinite is strong smelling stuff and if this stuff will make you sit down I can't help but think that something in it is pretty nasty.

I'm skeptical of Zaino playing around with a coating type product. With XKote and Eastwood having coatings already I doubt there is much market left for any new players.

It has an ammonia odor. The product is VOC compliant.

Scott,

Your right about the gloss. Last Monday a couple came in to have their new Challenger tinted and also have a 3M paint protection film kit applyed to the nose. I sold them on the coating and when they pick up se said that the car look better then when the dealer delivered it. We did nothing to correct the paint and I even noticed that the orange paint looked a little hazy. After it sat for a couple hours it started to really gloss up.

For the headlights we do a couple sets per week. Mostly Toyota and Lexus. we haven't had any come back and I don't own a car that has this problem. David told me that the coating would help keep the lights clear longer.

For the wheels the longevity will probably not be as good as the panels on the car. Example My wife's black Expedition had not been washed for 3 months. She drives 30 miles to and from work every day. The coating was applied to the wheels and painted surfaces in April of 07. She rear ended another car in may and the front bumper and hood were replaced and resprayed. I did nothing to the fresh paint. The car has been through a tunnel wash 3 times and had a wash brush used on the back lift gate by the operator every time.

Today I washed it at the shop 50% of the dirt came off the wheels with the pressure washer the rest had to be washed off with a soft brush and a little APC. None of the brake dust bonded to the finish the wheels look shiny for painted ford rims but i feel that the grim, heat from the brakes and the abrasion from grit and the moderate light rain we have had has taken it's toll on the wheels. Nothing permanent stuck on the wheels and they didn't require much effort to clean them but the water just didn't seam to react the same as it did the panels that were still protected on the rest of the car. The painted surfaces still shed water great except for the Hood and Bumper that were painted these areas held on to the water with 0 beading. I added a little QD to the panels with the coating and it felt as smooth as glass. If I can ever get this car in my possession again I will reapply to the hood and bumper.

That still sounds mighty impressive after, what..19 months?!?

My apologies to Accumualtor and others who are reading this thread. I posted that the product was applied in 07 but it was 08.

I would really like to see it last longer on wheels. probably will with better care. I don't know to many people who don't regularly wash their newer vehicles. I just have been very busy with work and the opening of our new shop.
