dealerships offering lifetime protection

Two of my customers now have bought new vehicles and were offered a lifetime protection on their paint. Anyone know about this. I asked them both if they knew what it was and neither knew?One went ahead and got it and was told it was some kind of airplane coating? Im going to call the dealership and find out unless anyone here knows about this.

This is very bad for the detailing business !:D

BMW and Mercedez have offered this in my area, Ca.
 
Even with a no wax linoleum floor you still have to wax it. This is the answer I have always thrown back whenever this subject has been mentioned :wink:

They've been selling this miracle product around here for years. I always thought you Californians were light years ahead of us here in the sticks :D
 
Many years ago when I did new car cleanup at a chevy dealership they offered lifetime paint, interior and undercoat protection, what a bunch of bull. I also worked in a couple of detail shops in NV where they sold this tripe. There is no lifetime paint etc protection thay are just hoping the buyer sells or trades the car within the next three years or the dealership is going to be out of alot of money redoing thier "lifetime" protection.:thumbup:

Your exactly right IMO Harry. Its all a numbers game, and I assure you the deck is stacked in there favor Da Rules!
 
I would NEVER in a million years buy into that BS about lifetime protection. There is no such thing. Tell your customers that you can offer the same thing, and get Opti-Coat from Dr. G at Optimum. It is a better product, and will last longer(not a lifetime, but then again, nothing will last a lifetime....except twinkies).
 
I was wondering if this is something NEW or the teflon they have been using and selling for years . The teflon is usually warrentied for 5 years and usually last little over 6 months:biggrin:

Already my poor customer received his brand new car with the lifetime paint warrenty and was heavily oversprayed everywhere and felt like sandpaper so I told him to take it back and it still feels like sand paper after they worked on it. I dont want to touch this car ! Anything I do to it will probably take the coating off I imagine.
 
DetailChick you can always give your customer the option of letting you work on the paint with the understanding that he probably will void his "lifetime" warranty. Personally I would rather have a slick and shiny car than a rough car. Is the car an import by chance? Cars that are made overseas and shipped to the US have a coating on them to protect them from the sea air. If this is the case he needs to take it back to the dealership and tell them to use Cosmolean(sp) or whatever they use to remove that coating. The coating will feel like sandpaper or a 1985 Chevy ElCamino build in mexico.:scared:

Thats why I am asking if this is something NEW ? Ive never heard "lifetime " before .
 
Dealers have been selling these paint, rust, and fabric warranties for years now. I worked for a shop back in the mid '90's applying all these products to cars for many of the local new car dealerships. The stuff I applied was garbage with the exception of the fabric protectant. Some are better than others, many have loop holes in their warranty big enough to fly an air buss through too. Tell them to save their cash and have Opti-Coat applied. ;)
 
Ok i found out the product from BMW dealership its called cilajet.......I will look into it later.

As everyone has said already I do not beleive it either.

This BMW was def oversprayed Harry ,they did some paint work and it was all over the windows too
 
It really is a paint warranty.

If you had a 100 customers paying the premium, there may be a few to put a claim against the company but net is they are taking in much more than they are paying out. They may invest $50 in labor applying the product but the rest is pure profit.

It is just like a maintenance contract for repairs.

Somewhere on the site I read its good for 10 years but you have to reapply it after 5 :rolleyes:

Im so disappointed my customer got this . Now anytime he gets scratches or needs something buffed out I will be taking this sealant off . And hes not a careful person at all and the car is a very dark color.

My other customers knew I would be upset if they got it, so they didnt :D thats what they told me anyway

If you told sold me a bottle of a sealant (they never used that word) and polycharger, I could argue that it similar to an epoxy combination.

I think we know from Opticoat that there are durable products out there but they do not prevent swirls, etc. I think they are more durable than some will admit.
