Chemical guys concours 5050 wax

When I spoke to the gentleman at CG he said they were making them in lots of 2000... and keeping 100 or so cans from each lot on the shelf. After the first batch of 2000 they will produce another 2000... of course just like any product you see there will be slight batch variations. Hence the reason theyll keep 100 stocked from each batch, so if you REALLY wanted a batch from a certain lot you could probably request one. That is of course if you could even tell a difference.

I got my reserve set from this batch as I told Paul at CG that was a must:o . I am sure the next batch will be as good, but, hey I will do the same with that batch too.

I have been a dedicated souveran user for years, still have new backup supply in a temp-controlled fridge. But now got into Zymol estate waxes, Victoria waxes, and CG 5050. Out of all these great waxes, I keep reaching for 5050. IMO, it gives the best of both souveran and the zymol characteristics (at a relatively good price).

Thanks, guys. It sounds like this is a good size chunk of wax....just trying to justify this purchase...don't have any dark colored cars at the moment.

I haven't seen any comments on white or silver. I really don't need another short-lived, delicate carnauba. I'm no longer using such products. OTOH, the pictures shared by Lightman and a few others have been astonishing! :shocked

You will not be sorry. It will work on all colors!!

After giving my initial layer of 5050 another day to "set", I've come to the conclusion that it's provided more of a "rich" look as opposed to a dripping wet look. Don't get me wrong. There's plenty of depth & crisp reflections. That's for sure. The flake in my paint hasn't been muted at all. Plenty of "pop". I'd even say that my black paint looks a bit darker, as opposed to the Zaino. On Thursday I'm applying a 2nd layer to see if the wetness & gloss increases. At this point, I think souveran contains more oils. Thus the wetter look Souveran provides. Natty's Blue & trade Secret also seem to be a bit more of a wetter look, as well. Once again, just some early observations. I'm wondering if the change in weather temperature has anything to do with the look of this wax. ( sounds strange, doesn't it?) Low 60's & dry on the day I applied 5050. Upper 40's at night. 83 degrees today. HMMM? Who knows what tomorrow brings!

Overall, I'm pleased with the 5050. It does seem to have some distinctive qualities to it that sets it apart from the other quality nubas I use.

Tom my started this thread based on how it looks with my silver audi.

an update with photo's

First a pick of the tahoe after a trip around the block in the rain. The tahoe has Natty's blue on it from a 2 months ago, washed weekly. I'm not comparing the natty's to the cg, only illustrating the amount of moisture out there in many of my morning drives.

Next are the shots of the Audi with cg 5050 on it. this is after driving the wife in this morning for an hour, then making a quick trip around the block.

This mornings observations............. Wouldn't ya know it! 35 mph wind gusts throughout the night, last night. My car & the 5050 is covered in West Texas dust! The landscaping crew is coming through my complex today to add to the pile of dust on my car. Looks like tomorrow before I can wash & observe the 5050 again. It's no big deal anyway. I was planning on applying a 2nd layer of 5050 tomorrow anyways.

Grouse, got it, thanks.

I'm a bit skeptical trying to make judgement based upon pictures on the internet. It's very difficult, if not impossible, to discern the quality of the finish. I guess personal observations might be a bit more significant when it comes to issues like this. Thanks again, the pictures do look great!

Got my tin in today (124). Opened it up.. wax was cracked.. no big deal though. Did a quick wash and clay (sonus green). Application was a breeze, as was removal. I did WOWO for half the hood and let it haze for over 15 minutes for the other half. Removal was incredibly easy using both methods. First thought was that it really wasn't worth it. I can get that look with NB or CMW any day. That was in my garage. I took her outside... went inside and came back. Now that's a look that's worth fifty bucks. It seemed to shine up a little more as a few minutes passed. Very wet, very slick, very deep.

Only problem I have with it is the tin. The wax won't pop out so I can rub it on my applicator (4 inch LC finishing pad). I can't get the pad in there like I can with #16 either. I'm thinking of just scooping it all out and putting it in an old NB cannister after melting it down. I don't think it will change the chemical make up just by melting it down.

For those that still take the whole wax chunk out of the can to apply to a pad.. try using a spoon to apply it to the pad. You use the BACK side of the spoon to build up some product onto the spoon and then easily smear it onto the pad.

Less mess... same results... quicker application.

Hey the spoon idea was mine. I use a quality plastic spoon. Scrape out with round side. Don't dig with it. Just slide the round side to get wax on spoon then slide the wax on applicator. You can also use the dippin side to spread it deeper into applicator if you want.........Fun----Fun----Fun.........

I use a butter knife from the kitchen to spread a nice carbauba on the applicator or finishing pad .....shhhhhhhhhhh......don't tell the wife ;)

Guys, am I going to have any issues working with 5050 around 40F-45F in the garage...cold weather will be rolling in shortly.

Cheers!

Came home from work today & decided to give my car a bath with ONR. It did a terrific job on the dust that was covering my recently applied layer of 5050. No marring whatsoever. I followed the ONR up with some #425. Unbelievable! Still a beautiful, warm & rich finish from the 5050. So far,So good!

You will be ok in that temp. Do a couple/few panels at a time before going back to buff/remove the wax. I use a small foam applicator, like Bence, its the easiest way imo, and spreads and spreads.

I posted some comments a few days ago about the warm-rich appearance of the 5050 on my black paint. I'm now ready to add the "dripping wet" comment. I've noticed a major difference between the Zaino I had on my car before the 5050 & the looks of my car, now, with a layer of 5050. Warm-rich-deep-wet-crisp reflections & dripping wet look!! I'm a full fledged believer in the 5050 now. My car looks sensational! 5050 is definately giving the looks of my beloved Souveran a run for it's money! If 5050 proves to be more durable, then I think I've just found my new "go to" carnauba in the CG 5050.

So I take it this is better then Natty's?

Thats personal opinion. Many feel wax X is better than wax Y for reasons like looks, price, ease of use and more. If you read through this thread you will get the concensus. IMO it is, and competes with souvern on my cars.

Couldn't help myself today. I had to apply a 2nd layer of 5050 to my car. This mornings process was: ONR wash followed by a FK#425 QD clean up. At that point, my car was looking stellar! But,I just couldn't stop there. Applied a 2nd layer of 5050 ( 2nd layer within a week, that is) and I'm still in awe. Followed that up with another spritzing of #425 for the final buffing. Just amazing! Deep & dripping wet!

I have noticed that when applying/removing the 5050 by hand, that I had to come back with some QD to clean up some ever so slight residue left on the surface. It's the 2nd time it's happened to me with 5050. I applied it super thin, as I have been with all my waxes/sealants for years. Just an observation. No big deal really. But man, does it ever look sweet on my black paint!

mburnickas: Better than Natty's?? Not for me to say. Deeper and richer appearance (IMO) than Natty's, Natty's Blue & CG XXX Paste. Just as easy to use.

The weather might be terrific down here in West Texas this time of year, but the dust in the air is ridiculous. Once again, my car was covered in a light dust. Got out the ONR & gave it a quick wash. I just love ONR. After that, I decided to QD with some Quik Shine. Took out one of my trusty Monster Fluffies & went to town (post ONR wash) with the QS. The result was absolutely delicious! QS really darkens my black paint a bit. Still thrilled with the 2 layers of 5050 on my car. The ONR-FK#425-QS system has maintained the 5050 finish quite nicely.
