BEST drying towels

Hey guys

I have a small car (00 Corolla) and I used a bunch of small MF towels but they weren't getting the job done so I'm looking for what you guys would recommend to dry a small car.

1. Specific Brand?

2. Blend?

3. Where to Buy?

4. Does a light color really mean softer?

I favor the Monterey waffle weave towels from Excel Detail, but there are many good towels out there. I also think the Autopia sotre right here is carrying them now, but I'm not certain.

They are soft, cheap ($10), and absorb water like crazy.

go to k-mart and pick up the gold viking x-large (6 sq.feet) microfiber drying towel, and it's only $8.99! mine's been through several washes and shows no sign of wearing down... :2thumbs:

Meguiars water magnet! I usually do not wash them in the washer anymore(wish I never did). I just hand wash them with clean water in a bucket. The more lint that comes out of them, the less water they hold. :2thumbs:

How many of them will I need to dry my car?

I find that the WW towels don't do a great job of getting all the water. So call me old fashioned but I still use the trusty absorber. I know I know, if there is any dirt on your car you can rub it into the paint if you use the absorber, but I do an excellent job of washing my car making sure to get all areas.

I used to use the Absorber and it worked great, just needed to be wrung out every 1/4 of the hood or roof or half a door. I've since been using WW drying towels and I find that I can dry my whole car with ease as long as I sheet the surface with water to get most of the water to run off of the car. When I am done with the whole car, the towel isn't nearly saturated.

I've been using the Big Blue II from CMA, but will be ordering WW Drying towels form Pakshak when those are worn out. Have been using the 16x16 WW Glass towel from Pakshak and a bunch of his other MF all with excellent results. Good quality and can't recommend enough.

I dont think there is "one" towel that is so awesome that it should bestoe the "best" title. I prefer to use what I call an associate towel when drying. This could even be a regular plush microfiber polishing towel if need be. It helps as a leaner when reaching lower panels or when drying hard to reach roof areas. I prefer a smaller 16x27 as an example. If you find your lead towel leaving an occasional streak, you just follow up with the other smaller WW thats in the opposite hand. This will also alleviate excessive water consumption, that "could" lead to streaking with the larger towel. Just my preference.....

Gotta agree with Pat here. People are always looking for the "best". In detailing, there is no best, just LOTS of outstanding products. If there was a "best" there would be no reason for other products. With that said, I highly recommend the Meguiars Water Magnet WW drying towel. Local pickup at pepboys for $6.99. Lots of people complain about it not absorbing enough, but at $6.99 it's not going to hurt the wallet to buy more than one. I find having three is sufficient enough for drying an entire vehicle. Best thing about them is they are machine washable. Ive washed mine about four times so far, and have had very very little fraying each time.

I know people will have different opinions and there is no one that is best but they're are ones that perform better than the others. I was looking into the Monterey waffle weave that was mentioned by 2 autotopians. I've also heard alot about Pakshak. I'm young and don't come by lots of money so I want to make a good investment. I bought a CWB and am too afraid to use it on the car and well it was poor investment so I want to buy something that'll be worth the 20 or so dollars.

Pardon the repitition if you know this already, but here's a tip so that whatever towel you use to dry with doesn't have to work so hard:

In your final rinse, take the sprayer off your hose and let the water free flow off your car in sheets. Most of the water will run off the surface leaving very little for you to dry. I have a couple of blue Sonus WWs and they work pretty well. I also bought one of the Viking gold drying towels, but I haven't tried it yet. I might get one of the Meguiar's WW since I can get it locally to avoid the shipping.

I just bought this WW towel from ChemicalGuys and it's sooooo soft, I just love it!

I feel like using it on me instead of using it on my car :chuckle:

It has silk edges so no scratches will be induced by this towel, it's SUPER soft and absorbs water like crazy!

I like:

Pakshak's

Cobra's Guzzler

Winnercircledetailingproducts.com WW (a few washes and they get better and better)

Danase WW (no longer available but worked petty darn good).

Interesting! I had it work out the exact opposite- back when I used the Absorber and other similar products I had the "little bit of water left behind" issue, but I find that my WWs get it all :nixweiss Another of those YMMV things I suppose.

I love the big yellow vroom drying towel from Target!

Sorry, but I can't agree. I bought one, but as with all other non-waffle weave microfibers, it does not absorb water very well. You really have to work at it to get it to pick up water whereas WWs absorb like crazy. Makes for a good buffing towel, however.

Whatever you do, get a WW-style.
