Guinness is a stout not a beer but that is another discussion. I guess Guinness used to be my favourite drink before I stopped drinking alcohol.
The Guinness in Ireland tastes very different to the export stuff
My brother lived in Ireland and said the EXACT same thing. You couldn't compare the two.
An authentic Irish pub opened up in my town where the actual bar and decorations were imported from Ireland in pieces. The whole Guiness aparatus to hold, properly store and pour the stout is setup the way it is in Ireland. Pretty cool.
Personally, I'm not a beer drinker in the connoisseur fashion like some of you guys here. When I get together with the fellas to watch the game, it's usually Heinekin. To be honest, I get bloated after three and get the hiccups!!
For the most part I drink Vodka on the rocks, sometimes Bombay Saphire Gin. My favorite cocktail is the Vodka or Gin Gimlet made the proper way with squeezed lime and a teaspoon of powdered sugar. Most of my friends drink liquor (Johnny Walker). Getting together in the early evenings for an aperitif and mixing cocktails is a ritual for us before we go out for the night. Or at least it was before they started to get married and drop like flies. Now, it's dinner parties with loads of good wine

Oh, and I love after dinner drinks - Franjelica, neat.
I just can't get myself to like drinking those heavy beers that John mentioned for whatever reason.
In Brooklyn, NY there is a noted microbrewery that supposedly makes great beer.
My best friend lived in the home once owned by the owner of Pabst Beer. He had all kinds of cool signs from YEARS and YEARS ago in his attic. In fact, decades ago, many of the beer barons lived in the wealthy section of my town because their breweries were a few minutes away in Newark, NJ - noted for its incredible water resevoirs. When I drive to New York City, I see the huge Anheuser Bush brewery with the huge neon eagle flapping its wings
