2005 Corvette

I'm a Porsche 911 owner but I like the new Vette.

Fox News just 20 minutes ago showed a different 15 sec GM ad with just the Corvette and it had much better views of the new car. The hood to me looked similiar to the new Viper. Color of the car was bright red.

Better yet for all to see will be the official unveiling at the Detroit Auto Show on Sunday 1/4/04 at 7PM EST. It will be broadcast via the Internet. It will also be shown at the LA Auto Show on Monday 1/5/04.

yeah I noticed the same thing! From the front it looks like a Viper.. it wasn't until they showed the rear end until I knew for certain it was a Corvette.

How would you like to wax or seal these colors this summer?

10U Arctic White

19U LeMans Blue Metallic1

27U Precision Red

41U Black

67U Machine Silver Metallic

71U Daytona Sunset Orange Metallic

79U Millennium Yellow

86U Magnetic Red Metallic II

A re-design that does not disappoint, Z06 like performance, re-designed interior for $50-55K. This is a winning combination!

Thought this was a cool view.. same same?

Yup, that's what I was thinking. Plus, they even used the "Magic Carpet Ride" song that Dodge used to have in their commercials featuring the Viper.

They both look fantastic, but the one I'm dreaming about is the '05 Ford GT.

Beautiful and it wll for SURE be a stunner in driving, fit&finish, and performance.

But........

What is with that rear wheel gap??????

Agreed! I was looking for a picture before I got to your post. :D I think some "borrowing" was taking place. :nono

If the fit and finish, especially of the interior, were to be improved even I would be interested. I have two Corvette buddies, one a 2002 and one a 2001. Unfortunately, they both have acquired rattles and creaks that would drive me nutz!

The new one looks great, can't wait to see one in person.

I agree with Brad. If GM has improved the fit and finish it will be very interesting and appealing car to me. I have never really like the corvette but the performance and handling are really first rate now, and the styling seems to be catching up now. The big question now is the build quality and the materials used.

As a diehard Porsche fan this has been my biggest complaint with recent 911's. Cheap feeling, looking and sounding materials used on the interior. There is no "THUNK" when the door shuts anymore.

The corvette, IMO has always suffered from GM's use of hard, cheap feeling plastics, poor seats, ugly steering wheels, and for a tendency for many squeaks and rattles to develop. If GM cures some of these problems, then nothing on the road will touch it, especially for the money.

Or it could just be that they are all front-engined RWD two seat sports cars... The don't look similar, but have similar shapes. I seriously doubt anyone here would confuse a Viper and a 550/575 Maranello. Or confuse a C6 Corvette and a 360 Modena, or any other combo of these cars for the other. The 575 and Viper may both be red, have a hood scoop, three bulb lights, and raised fenders that slope into the hood, but I can't imagine anyone confusing one for the other...

For one thing, the Corvette has had pop-up lights for a while now. That limits how curvy that part of the car can be. But with fixed lights, the lights can follow the flow of the fenders. Much like the '53-62 Corvette did. But by the C5, the fenders were angling down to the center. So now that the lights can also do that, it isn't surprising that they do. I think that car says "Corvette" much more than the C5 did, but of course there will be similarities to other cars. There always is with any car.

I know!!! That's what I was thinking. It gives it the tipping-forward look of a Dodge Neon or C-class hatchback..

I had driven Porche since 1970 and bought a 2002 Z06 Vette. It is as comfortable and well made as any of my Porsches and will run the wheels off any Porsche that sells for less than three times what I paid. Plus, it gets better gas mileage. GM *has* gotten the message as far as I can tell.

(PS I had not owned ANY US made car since 1986).
