Question = Why did you use Intensive Polish after 105? Are you not able to go from 105/wool to Ultrafina? Also, do you think more cut/correction(less passes) could have been achieved using a Heavy Cut wool pad instead of a Medium Cut one? EDGE's yellow is pretty strong too in retrospect.

David- I am still learning the product and probably could have stepped to a more agressive pad, but I really didn't feel it was necessary on this particular vehicle. The yellow wool pad was producing great results and I was able to see an improvement after every pass, so I decided to stick with this pad and perform more passes. I was not in a rush whatsoever and saw no point in using a more agressive approach. I always like to play it safe. Faster is not always better. I enjoy taking my time. It would probably be a different story if I was a mobile detailer or had a shop to pay for and had time restrictions, but it is more of a hobby for me.

The reason I used IP after the M105 was basically as a safeguard and for my own peace of mind. I knew I wasn't going to be able to pull the car out in the sun to check for swirls, etc., so I decided to perform the extra step. I did one of the rear 1/4 panels with UF right after the 105 and it looked fantastic. Although halogens work great at detecting swirls, nothing shows them better than pure sunlight IMO. The compounding was probably 80% of the work, so a quick once over with IP was nothing.

This was sort of a 105 test vehicle for me, so I am sure my process will change slightly the more I use it.

Carbon Blue- Thanks!

lowNslow- Thanks!

G35stilez- Ha,ha.. :D

Autofan- Thanks!

scottrat- Thanks! He almost fell over when he saw it.

Thanks Ryan!

It was definitely nice to detail another color but black, but guess what I might have to detail this coming weekend? Yup, you guessed it..... another black car that is supposedly in worse shape than this was in. It's an Acura TL in NBP. Let me know if you want to get together for a day of fun!

I am SO ready for spring!!

Have not had to much time lately. Give me a couple pads and 20 minutes and I'll learn it pretty fast:grinno:

Did play with it on a few fenders on my buddies car and worked VERY nice. Love how the grit stays consistant.

Polishing is second nature to me. Come on:secret

I am SO ready for spring!!

I'll be around Sat. and Sun.

I also had a customer refer me to a classic car builder/bodyshop that is in need for some perfect correction work, so we might have a bunch of jobs to do when it warms up.

Amazing. How'd you like Lusso Oro? How's "Gtechniq hydrophobic glass treatment ?"

How do you like the Edge Wool pads?

shine- Thanks, me too!

rydawg- Sounds good. Talk to you soon.

Scottwax- Thanks!

SYDWAZ- Thank you. I'm sure you will.

.VorteX.- Thanks!

SilvaBimma- The Lusso Oro is really easy to apply and remove and reminds me a lot of Souveran. I don't think it looks quite as good, but it is very close and you can't beat the price.

I have the yellow and blue Edge pads and love them. They have been a life saver on more than a few occasions.

The Gtechniq hydrophobic glass treatment is awesome stuff. I applied it to my fathers and my girlfriends windshield and the water sheds off like crazy. It blows Rain-X out of the water. It has been on for about 4 weeks and I am amazed how well it is holding up. I noticed that right after it is applied, the wipers chatter for about and hour. After the first hour using the wipers, the chattering stopped. They both love how it works. I am very impressed.

Here's a couple interior pictures. I only took a couple because I concentrated more on the exterior. I should really start taking more interior before and after pictures.

As you can see, the floor mats were beat and were ready for the dumpster. When the owner picked up the car and saw how good the rest of the car came out, he said that he was going to buy some new floor mats for it before the new owner received the car.

The results speak for themselves, but thanks very much for outlining the process you went through. Outstanding. Seeing this Grand Am revitalized, I'm encouraged enough to tackle my son's dark green Grand Am! If I get results that are half as good, we'll be thrilled!

Rick,

I'm always impressed with the results of your details Lol, one day i'll be able produce similar results with my details.

Questions:

You mentioned in another thread, that it is vital that you use 'just enough' M105 to get optimum results (meaning the pads won't get grabby and jumpy, and having enough product so you don't dry buff). How much did you use on a 2x2 panel for this particular car?

I just bought a Hitachi rotary and i have a bunch of LC 6.5 foam pads (yellow, orange, green, white, grey). For beginners, do you suggest using the LC purple wool or meg's double sided or even meg's light cutting yellow wool instead, for badly oxidized paint?

Thanks again!

Being from california i cannot comprehend how a car gets that bad. I can't imagine what I would say if I showed up to a job and the car looked like that.
