2 Day Makeover (complete vehicle rejuvenation)

Rick, Your work is just 100% impressive!!!!

That hood was so hammered, I thought you might have to resort to wet sanding.

Thanks for taking the time to share.

Greg- Thanks! It killed me to see him drive off with the car while the raods were still wet. Oh well...

Josh- I only had to wetsand a 6 inch spot on the trunk lid and a small spot on the roof. All of the other correction work was done with M105. Have you had the chance to try M105 out yet? Great stuff!

etml12- The mirrors are plastic, but can be polished back just like a painted surface.

Justin- Thanks! My back is still killing me.

Thanks Bryan!

I did have to wetsand 2 small spots that I forgot to mention in my process.

The Vette covered in snow!!! :shocked :bawling:

Great work on the Grand Am. Bringing red back to life is always very impressive! To bad the weather has been nasty...after all that work you know its going to be all nasty with salt by the time the client gets home.

I know! I had the Vette all detailed perfectly in the garage, but had this detail to do, so it ended up spending the night outside and got snowed on. :doh

Yup, I'm sure the car is already covered in sand and salt!

Wow, I'm speechless! "Advanced Paint Correction Specialist" is the PERFECT title for you! How hard was it compounding the ridges on the bumpers and sides of the car? I can just see a lot of polish sling happening in those tight spots.

integritydetail- I don't have a paint thickness guage any longer, but I have done some pretty heavy duty correction work when I did have it and compared readings before and after the correction. It it very minimal and not as much as you would think. The vehicle has factory paint, besides the back bumper, so I felt pretty safe with my process.

raadkins16- Buffing in between the ridges actually wasn't that bad. I thought I was going to need to switch to a smaller pad, but I was able to cover all of the areas with the bigger pad. You are right about the spattering. I had to wash the car after all of the polishing and blew out all of the crevices with compressed air. It took me a while with a horse hair brush to get all of the wax out of the nooks and crannies.

I love it when you take a beat car like that, and make it look better than new. That thing looks great!! What was the owner say? Joe

tdekany- Thanks!

Saumil- The weather is so weird here in New England. It was freezing the other day and it is about 50 degrees today. I have almost 4 feet of snow in my yard at my cottage in NH, which is less than 100 miles away.

350f- Thanks! The car has 76,xxx miles on it.

jtford95- Thanks! The owner was in complete awe when he saw it. He wishes now that he didn't agree to sell it!

DieselMDX- Thanks! I can't wait until the weather gets better so all of us in MA can get together for a detailing day.

john1c- Thanks!

That is some killer work. Before shots were really beat up. So that 105 is like a miracle product right now huh? Still waiting for the UPS man to show up with my 105 kit and W66 backplate. Awesome work. I am absolutely stunned.

This is great to see, I have a white Grand Am GT to do when the weather breaks it's prep for sale so I have some time to get it done. It's full of swirls and I don't think its ever been waxed. Did you find the paint hard?

Amazing work!

Amazing work!! You took a very filthy, non-descript car and turned it into a head turner!! Good job!!

Is aksing whether or not you have a heated garage a stupid question?

105 is a fantastic compound. It has quite a learning curve to it though. It is a little tricky to use and is totally different from every compound I have ever tried over the years. It cuts extremely fast and leaves an excellent finish (for a compound).

It will gum up and dust very easily if you apply too much product, but once you learn how much product to use, it works like a dream. I applied the product directly to the panel and worked it for only two passes. Two passes is all it takes before the product "disappears". It is totally different than SIP, which you can work for quite a while until the abrasives break down. If you do any more than 2 passes, you will dry buff and create marring from the pad.

I had great luck using a yellow Edge wool pad. I spread the product and did two passes at 1500rpm without any gumming problems at all and very minimal dusting. It leaves a great finish that is pretty much ready for final polishing. The trick is to thoroughly clean your pad aftery every panel. If you do not keep your pad clean, it will gum up very easily. 1500rpm's seemed to work the best for me. I found that if I tried to work it any faster, the product dried up way too fast.

I still need to do some more testing with this product using different pads, but it is by far, the best compound I have ever used. Once you get past the learning part, it is almost too good to be true!

I tried using it with a purple foamed wool pad, but the pad loaded up with product after only a few panels so I switched over to a yellow Edge wool pad which worked incredible.
