So I have worked for this company since November of 2014. I have never had a m-f schedule. It has always bothered me but I trucked along as I was fed carrots of a potential m-f schedule based off my tenure.
We just finally got to apply for schedule changes and work from home in my department on Jan 1st. All I wanted was a m-f schedule.
Every month I request it and the next month I am denied ... the email simply reads "business need"
yet nobody can explain said business need. what the heck is going on?
So I get approved to work from home (which I really don`t want to do but I need a change as this job has became monotonous and I`m only staying in this dept because it`s easy and I don`t want to have to do more work here for the same or just a little bit more pay.
So I took wfh and was told I`d be on the next round of schedule changes.
Well today I hear cheers of joy from across the aisle as the girl who was hired over a year and a half after me has just received her m-f schedule. Awesome, happy for you I say...as I relish receiving the same email that is obviously going to come to me soon enough since it`s based off of tenure and I`m the next tenured rep in line.
I hear joys from other reps and chatter of how the rep was offered an alternative schedule (you can only request ONE schedule change, there is NO spot for "hey i`ll also come in earlier if I have to in order to get a m-f schedule" or anything like that.
With that in mind...this rep is offered three different options different than her requested schedule as the other options would "fit business need" currently...so she takes her pick of which one works best for her.
I think to myself...wow this is awesome they may even let me come8-5 or something instead of 9-6..i mean i`ll be working from home so it wont be hard to do that, right.
So I get the email denying my schedule change request "business need"
WHAT ? REALLY ?
This has to be some mistake.
"email her back, that`s the same girl who was offering me different schedules that would be approved...she`s awesome!" comes from the aforementioned girl in the row next to me
So I email the schedule person back.... no answer
During the time I`m waiting I ask the other girl (mentioned first) if she can email the same person and get a response...which she does and she does get a response.
Keep in mind my email was sent before this.
Then I lose it and have to take a break to get some fresh air and I took my car out for a quick shakedown _ thank heaven for horsepower and torque!!!!
Anyways I figure she`ll have emailed me back within 20 mins, right?
So I check my email...she went GHOST..(away from desk) and then out of office.
Come to find out she has left for the day. took a half day. MUST BE NICE!
So I`m wanting to leave the office for the day and weekend for that matter but then I realize I have no more earned time benefit to use if I do that and I may jeopardize my DF trip, so I have to bite my tonge and be a big boy.
Stripped of reasoning, stripped of logic, stripped of my will to perform my job (which I am damn good at btw).
My hopes of proper work life balance hang on a tightrope and I have no balancing rod.
I am so frustrated right now that I have tears in my eyes as I`m typing this. And they don`t bead the way I want them to- lol.
Okay thanks for letting me vent. Now back to work.
Is it possible to form a logical argument for work life balance discrimination relative to procedural guidelines on schedule changes ? because I`m forming the argument in a separate document for my visit to HR on Monday.
